Golf tourney raises scholarship money in Ti Ticonderoga alumni held their annual golf tournament at the Ticonderoga Country Club July 26 and awarded scholarships to Ti graduates. See sports.

Dick Davis memorial slated MORIAH — The Moriah Country Club will host the 26th annual Dick Davis memorial golf tournament on Aug. 15 and 16. This is a 2 person best ball event for 36 holes with a shot gun start both days at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Entry fee is $60 for members and $80 for non-members and includes a practice round on Friday Aug. 14, continental breakfast both days, dinner and a live band “The In-Laws” following play on Saturday. There will be cash prizes in all flights. Flights are established after play on Saturday. Applications have been mailed to area courses or can be obtained at the country club. Heritage Day slated

Jam sessions planned at Boathouse Theater

The event takes place 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Penfield Homestead Museum, Ironville. The day starts with a 9:30 a.m. church service at the Ironville Church across the street from the Penfield homestead. The craft fair and flea market open at 10 a.m. where vendors and live entertainment setup in the homestead yard. The Heritage Day 10k race, sponsored by the LaChute Road Runners also starts at 10 a.m. The race starts and finishes at the Penfield homestead and has a course of 6.2 miles on country roads, about half of

After significant discussion, the board approved a measure that will pay between $45,000 to $55,000 for the job, but could pay more if a highly qualified candidate is found. But even with the pay increase, Essex Supervisor Ron Jackson still has his doubts. “I just don’t know if we will be able to get what we want for $55,000,” Jackson said.

TICONDEROGA — Cartop boat enthusiasts now have a new way to access the Queen of American Lakes thanks to a new hand launch opened adjacent to Black Point Beach. The launch was the brainchild of David Pahl — a summer resident of The Portage and avid kayaker who brought the idea last summer to the Ti Parks and Recreation Department. “This type of access is really a win for everyone involved,” Pahl said last week from his home in Schenectady. “It’s low impact, carries no liability issues and

top boat, such as a canoe, kayak or small rowboat, and launch next to Black Point Beach. There is a 10-foot strip of land on the east side of the beach for cartoppers to use. The only rules are no motors, no trailers or vehicles on the beach, and no parking in the launching area. Pahl said he brought the idea forth last summer to coordinate it with the revitalization of the beach and said it was unanimously approved by the Ti town board last fall. “The board was just great to deal with,” Pahl said. “They were very receptive to the idea and after a little research approved it unanimously.”
