CHESTERTOWN Ñ North Warren Central School has announced the top students for the Class of 2015, which will hold its annual commencement ceremony Saturday, June 27 at 11 a.m.

Grant Cooper – Valedictorian

This National Honor Society Student has exemplified “extraordinaryÓ in his academic pursuits, having earned the award of “Most Outstanding” in every core academic discipline, while taking the most challenging courses and opportunities available to him. The term “wellroundedÓ must have been coined for Grant, for in addition to academic excellence, he is also a leader in his school and community pursuits. He has been an integral member of the Model Organization of American States class, serving as a Delegate. Grant has also participated in Cross Country, school drama and musical productions, as well as serving as a member of Student Council, and vice president, then co-president of the North Warren Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapter. Grant was the recipient of last yearÕ s SADD Leadership award. His care and regard for others is noted in his participation in our schoolÕ s bullying prevention program, Olweus, and in his work on the Shared Decision Committee. It serves as no surprise that last year, GrantÕ s peers nominated him to become a member of the North Warren Natural Helpers team, a group of students who provide advocacy for their peers in time of trouble or concern. The Triple “C” award for Character, Courage and

Commitment, along with the United States Air Force Math and Science Award, are a reflection of recognition for both character and academics that are the norm for Grant. Last year he was also recognized with the Clarkson University Leadership Award, as well as the Elmira College Key Award. For the past two years, Grant has been awarded the Cross Country Team Spirit Award. This year, Grant was recognized with the Teen Excellence Award, and at the Capital Area School District AssociationÕ s Scholar Excellence Dinner. In the fall Grant plans to study at the Albany College of Pharmacy, where he plans to earn a Doctorate of Pharmacy.

Nicholas Sapienza - Salutatorian

“Dependable, dedicated, and outstanding” are only a few words that would do well to describe Nick Sapienza. Simply stated, Nick excels in any activity he undertakes. His academic performance speaks for itself in terms of outstanding achievement. Nick has scored exceptionally well in mathematics related disciplines, and he uses the same focus and determination towards his athletic performance. In his school, this National Honor Society member has been an invaluable presence on the Boys Varsity Basketball team since the 8th grade. During past four years Nick has served as team captain and earned MVP status also during those four years. For his Fall sport this year, Nick joined the soccer team instead of cross country as he had done in previous years. Last year, Nick served both on the Prom Committee for the Class of 2015, and on Prom Court. Academically, Nick has always selected the most challenging curriculum available to him. Despite the challenge, however, his hard work and perseverance have resulted in him maintaining a strong academic standing near the top of his class. In his community, this extremely wellrounded individual has served as referee for modified basket-

ball, volunteers as a Saturday Morning Basketball Coach, and participates in community fundraising dinners to benefit others. For the past three years, Nick has participated at St. JosephÕ s and Northeast Shooters AAU Basketball. Recognition earned by Nick includes the Rensselaer Medal, the RIT Innovation and Creativity Award, The United States Air Force Math and Science award, and “Most OutstandingÓ in Business Law, Chemistry, Pre-Calcu-

lus and Nano Technology. Nick has plans to study in the field of Finance, starting at Siena College this Fall.

Calzada, Urtz top students in Bolton Central Class of 2015 BOLTON Ñ The Bolton Central School Class of 2015 has been announced, with commencement cermonies set for Friday, June 26, 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Sarah Calzada, Valedictorian, is going to spend the summer underwater. Working at LYCOTT Environmental, Sarah will be scuba diving in the Adirondack Lakes to help eliminate an invasive aquatic plant species known as milfoil. The environment is so important to the Bolton CSD valedictorian that she will study environmental science at SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry this fall. An enduring and powerful drive is what defines Sarah. She has a reputation for being hard-working and dedicated in everything that she undertakes. She describes herself as independent, passionate, and artistic, and although she is interested in the sciences, she is just as enthusiastic about the arts. One of SarahÕ s most memorable experiences was preparing a portfolio in the tenth grade when she applied for acceptance into the NYS Summer School for the Arts. Kaitlin Urtz, Salutatorian, loves to travel. She finds it not only adventurous but also introspective. A Bolton resident since she was born, Kaitlin had the chance to travel to Europe in high school for 10 days where she visited Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. This left an enduring impression on her. “Learning the cultures of different countries and their histories was incredible,” she said. “Eventually I would love to study abroad.”

KaitlinÕ s sociable personality, along with her positive outlook on life and boisterous, contagious laugh are hallmarks of this young and bold journeyer. Even more interesting is KaitlinÕ s desire to study the sciences, particularly astronomy. She hopes that one day sheÕ ll be pursuing her passion for the stars by living in Florida and working for NASA. She will attend Siena College in the fall. Marya Collins is smart, kind, caring, and is always looking to help others. As the president of Key Club, Bolton schoolÕ s volunteer organization, Marya knows just how important and rewarding it is to help others. SheÕ s planning a career that allows her to do just that by majoring in neuroscience. She looks toward to the future and sees herself traveling the world and selflessly giving her time to those who need the most help. Marya’s high school resume is filled with accolades, volunteer opportunities, and a variety of recreational activities. One of her favorite memories she says was when she was cast as Sebastian in the musical, “The Little Mermaid.” This experience propelled her to think about pursuing hobbies such as drama and dance in college, but most importantly she will join Club K, a volunteer organization at the college level. In the fall, Marya will attend Emmanuel College and then transfer to Boston University where sheÕ ll continue her studies. SheÕ s looking forward to experiencing city life and meeting new people but definitely will miss the comradery here in Bolton.

Daniel Dimick. is very opinionated yet open-minded and collaborative. Creative and artistic, Dan is looking forward to experiencing the world outside of Bolton as he enters his freshmen year at SCAD (Savannah College for Art & Design) in Savannah, GA. “I can’t wait to meet different people from all over the world,” said Dan. “People from all backgrounds with creative minds thinking and collaborating together is really exciting to me.Ó Dan has been a member of the school drama club, Key Club, and the National Honor Society. His most memorable moment in his high school career came earlier this year when he was cast as the lead in “The Adam’s Family.” In the fall when he enters SCAD, Dan plans to major in illustration. Micaela Perrelli loves to make an impact in other peopleÕ s lives, whether itÕ s making them laugh or volunteering to make a positive difference to the world. She describes herself as a class clown, energetic and outgoing, but always hardworking and dedicated to helping others around her. ItÕ s no surprise then that Micaela has chosen a career path that intertwines her interpersonal skills and her passion for improving peopleÕ s lives. In the fall, the National Honor Society president will attend Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with the goal of attaining her Doctorate of Pharmacy.
