ELIZABETHTOWN | Strategic planning determined to address rural health-care needs relies on network services here. Key elements of their long-term plan were presented by University of Vermont Health Network President/CEO Dr. John Brumsted and Elizabethtown Community Hospital (ECH) CEO John Remillard at a breakfast meeting with civic leaders recently. With the network’s top brass was Dr. David Clauss, recently named medical director of Emergency Department services at ECH.

ELW school looks to new name, colors Survey May 21 to inform board resolution By Kim Dedam STA FF W RITER
ELIZABETHTOWN | Identity of the new Elizabethtown-Lewis-Westport Central School District is in discussion by students, staff and stakeholders as part of ongoing Transition Advisory Team work.
The long string of town names likely won’t remain the school’s district name. Students have brainstormed and come up with ideas for a more illustrative district title, and have chosen two they like: Boquet Valley Central or Eastern Adirondack Central. The transition team is ready to recommend the new district keep the Griffin mascot. It has been in use by merged sports teams since 2013. They are considering what school colors to use. The transition team’s mission,
driven by student input, is facilitated by Scott Osborne, superintendent of Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School (ELCS). “On the very first evening, the team was quite clear — as we move into the future and embrace this new school district, we should do so with a new identity to reflect a true merging of values, beliefs, and vision,” Osborne said in a statement provided through Champlain Valley Educational Services Superintendent Dr. Mark Davey, interim superintendent of E-L-W. » ELW Cont. on pg. 7

SARANAC LAKE | A former student and faculty member has been named president of North Country Community College (NCCC).
Joseph Keegan, Class of 1989, will become the seventh president of the Essex and Franklin counties’ sponsored community college on June 16. In an announcement, college spokesman Chris Knight said the SUNY Board of Trustees approved the appointment last Wednesday. And the college community, he said, is thrilled. “There’s a real excitement among our faculty and staff on campus today about this appointment,” he said.

LAKE PLACID | Voters will be asked to approve a proposed $19,388,637 budget for Lake Placid Central School (LPCS), up 0.5 percent. The state set the tax levy cap at 2.1 percent, and the projected levy for the 2019-20 spending at LPCS is at the cap for a total $15,918,012. Lake Placid receives $2.6 million in state aid and will apply $520,000 from fund balance, the same as they spent on the current school budget. The slight levy increase would add an estimated 15 cents to the tax rate for a total $7 per thousand of real property value in both Wilmington and Lake Placid. » Budget Cont. on pg. 3
