A Guide To
Cracked Tooth Syndrome
What is CTS?
Cracked Tooth Syndrome, also known as CTS occurs when there is a crack in the tooth that is too small to show up on X-rays or is under the gum. This can make it difficult to diagnose CTS and it mostly appears on molars. This is because while chewing, most of the force is applied by the molars.
Symptoms
CTS is very hard to diagnose and often people suffer symptoms for months before being correctly diagnosed. Most of the people experience pain or discomfort when chewing or biting food during Cracked Tooth Syndrome. The teeth can also become sensitive to hot and cold temperatures.
Diagnosis The best person to diagnose your CTS is your dentist. Go to the dental clinic and communicate with the dentist about your symptoms, pain, and discomfort. Normally, an X-Ray will be conducted to check your teeth, but sometimes the condition is not visible on X- rays and further tests may be required.
Prevention
Always brush your teeth twice a day, this will lower the chances of having CTS. There are various mouth guards available in the market which will help you in preventing cracks. They are cost effective and you can get one fitted by your dentist.
Treatment
Mostly root canal treatment is preferable for CTS but the type of treatment will depend on the location and severity of the tooth fracture, so it's best to schedule an appointment with the nearby dentist as soon as possible.
