Energy concept Daikin leads the way in energy efficiency and the Energy series represents the ultimate in air handling units. The D-AHU Energy has been designed to optimize the energy consumption and thus minimize the running cost, When compared with standard AHUs, this means lower seasonal (year-round) power consumption and a reduction in the overall energy bill. Eurovent Certification Daikin is participating in the EUROVENT CERTIFICATION Programme for Air Handling Units. Daikin Air handling units are certified under the number 11.05.003 and presented on www.eurovent-certification.com. ASTRA Air Handling Unit selection software and performances are certified according to EN 13053-1999. Model Box-SP65 Casing mechanical strength

Energy Design Looking at the whole life cycle cost of an air handling unit, we can easily identify three major expenses: the first is the capital cost when you are buying the equipment, the second is the ongoing maintenance cost and the third relates to the energy costs. In terms of value, the energy costs represent, on average, 70-80% of the total life cycle cost and to keep this to a minimum, we have built our AHUs to deliver exceptional mechanical performance (in accordance with EN 1886) and to avoid energy loss through the casing and structure and this is certified through the EUROVENT programme.
Return on Investment The air handling unit (AHU) is critical to an effective climate control system and, although the initial investment can appear high, the savings generated by our advanced designs and operating efficiencies guarantee a rapid return on the investment made. Our AHU Energy series has been designed to deliver exceptional performance thus driving down the energy consumed and so lowering energy bills. Taken over the expected 15-year life-span of the equipment, this will result in an enormous saving, especially in a time of ever increasing energy prices.

Specific Fan Power (SFP) is a measure used in the evaluation of the energy consumed by an air handling unit (AHU). As defined in EN 13053 and EN 13779, the lower the SFP, the lower the power consumption of the entire air handling unit. The Daikin D-AHU Energy has been designed to deliver the lowest possible SFP by using the most efficient components designed to provide the perfect solution to your needs. The D-AHU is an optimized answer to the European directive on the energy performance of buildings (EPBD) that seeks to reduce the impact on global warming.
Engineered Thermal Break Design Design Daikin, combining long experience and extensive research, has developed a unique design of the thermal break profile that differentiates from current available technology and provides the client with a consistent thermal performance. The core of the innovative profile is two special polyamide bars that avoid heat transfer from the internal part of the profile to the external part, so avoiding heat loss from inside the unit to the outside environment. The unique part of this solution is that the thickness of the bars is 20 mm instead of the 16 mm that are available on the mass market, Having increased the thickness of the bars by 25%, Daikin has increased the thermal performance of the profile when in the presence of a temperature gradient. While obviously slowing down the thermal losses, this special profile also avoids unwanted condensation on the outside of the unit. Using our special design profile the client benefits from increased technical performance without paying a premium price.
Section-to-section profile Along with the innovative thermal break design, Daikin has gone further and has developed a new concept in section-to-section profiles to reduce the huge thermal losses when joining two AHU sections together.

The AHUs are normally shipped in various sections, and are joined together at the installation site, and figure 1 shows the classical section assembly using an angled profile that creates heavy energy losses.

Figure 2 features the new Daikin engineered profile that creates a discontinuity between the internal and the external wall of the AHU, thus guaranteeing a REAL thermal break profile for the ENTIRE unit and thus reducing thermal losses.

High Efficient Selected Components High Efficiency Heat Recovery
Premium Efficiency Motor
The D-AHU Energy series is equipped with high efficiency heat recovery equipment that delivers a minimum of 65% of heat recovered and could go up to the exceptional value of 90% heat recovery. The client can chose between different equipment and in particular the heat recovery section could be arranged with:
Premium efficiency motors in line with EU REG 640_2009 are available for the Energy series in order to further reduce electrical power consumption.
Condensation wheel Enthalpy wheel Sorption wheel
High Efficiency Fan
Controls
Fans with double-width, double-inlet and backward curved AIRFOIL blades are available with efficiency of up to 85% as well as reinforced bearings for longer lifespan.
Daikin have engineered a control system to efficiently manage all components selected either independently or through external supervision system. The control package includes the control panel, advanced microprocessor, sensors for temperature, humidity and air quality, and more other features.
Software ASTRA is the powerful software package that Daikin has developed to offer a quick and comprehensive service for the customer in order to make the proper technical choice and economic evaluation of each AHU. It is a complete tool that can configure any type of product and respond exactly to the strictest design needs. ASTRA produces a comprehensive economic offer including all the technical data and drawings, the psychometric diagram with the relative air treatment and the fans’ performance curves. However, Daikin didn’t stop there, they went further.
MECCANO is another powerful software tool designed and developed to quickly convert the offer to an executable order including sending the technical drawings to the client for approval, the production drawings for the factory, the bill of material, the code generation for each component used, and many other activities. The ASTRA-MECCANO integration has, therefore, made possible the complete automated management of the process, to reduce the manufacturing lead time and delivery and improve our service to our customers.
