Amelia Harris: AMATEUR LOVE Saturday 15 October to Wednesday 2 November Small Dog Gallery Amateur Love is an exhibition of amateur artworks from 1815 through to present times. Collected from op shops and refuse stations over several years, this exhibition will be the first time they are displayed together. The works are accompanied by specially written notes that examine the mysteries, and ponder each of the works’ significance. Part celebration, part investigation, part quest for enlightenment, this exhibition wonders whether amateur artists can remind us what art is about. This exhibition is supported by the Depot Artspace internship programme. Opening Saturday 15 October, 6pm to 8.30pm. Artist talk: Saturday 15 October, 2pm start.
Elizabeth Cottrell: THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL Saturday 15 October to Wednesday 2 November Verge Gallery Elizabeth Cottrell has always had an eye for retro and antique furniture and believes in the qualities of wool. When she moved to the high country near Taihape, Elizabeth started collecting colourful woollen blankets from second hand stores and decided to upcycle them. She found funky retro chairs from the 1960s with spindly legs and sharp angles. Elizabeth collaborates with local craftsmen to re-upholster each piece of furniture by hand. The result is a truly unique piece; not one chair or blanket is the same. In collaboration with this exhibition Depot Artspace will present The Vernacular Lounge, a space that celebrates the vernacular of Aotearoa New Zealand through publications, videos and artwork. Opening Saturday 15 October, 6pm to 8.30pm.

NiaVal and G. Lazaro: THIS WOMAN’S WORK IS A WOMAN’S WORTH Saturday 15 October to Wednesday 2 November Main Gallery
Two creatives discover the secrets behind their artistic gifts. Their journey of self discovery has been a challenging one, striving to keep their head above water in the sea of cultural customs, family obligations, religious restrictions and life. Glass sculptures, installation, performance, illustrations, digital paintings and a creative little people space. One artist soars through the sky’s highways using traditional and modern instruments to illustrate animated beings in elaborately designed artworks. The other is connected to the earth; with her feet on solid ground she creates from her visions and wild imagination. Exercising her creative and spiritual energy she has gathered skilled artisans to assist as she creates visual narratives from earth’s organic materials, feminine objects and rhythmical sounds and movement. Creating a soulful and nourishing plantation of work. And therefore both women... a woman... can just be... and just breathe... into creativity. The exhibition opening will include Cook Island and Turkish drumming, a children’s performance, audio / visual performances and more. Opening and live performances: Saturday 15 October, 6pm to 8.30pm. Sweet Pearls Of Wisdom - Women sharing stories over cups of tea and cake: Saturday 22 October, 10am to 2pm. Mama’s Jam - Youth sharing tribute to women and mothers: Saturday 29 October, 5pm to 8pm. 3

UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS
Suzanne Thornley: YVES TANGUY REVISITED Saturday 26 November to Tuesday 13 December Verge Gallery
“The works are inspired by the French surrealist Yves Tanguy. I find his exploration of spatial and sculptural ideas fascinating; his work is poetic, enigmatic, evocative and mysterious. It triggered a response that is definitely an impression... I put my individual stamp on it. Yves Tanguy’s works (and mine) is based... on feeling and the exploration of the spontaneous and expressionistic side of art” – Suzanne Thornley. Opening Saturday 26 November, 2pm to 3.30pm.
