PKW talent recognised by Institute of Directors
Joe Hanita has been recognised for his commitment to effective governance with the Emerging Director 2018 award from the Institute of Directors.
His current role as General Manager Finance and Investments is the latest in a line of leadership positions he has held since 2004. These include Director of the National Hauora Coalition Limited, Trustee of the Aotearoa Scholarship Trust and Director Finance for tertiary education provider Te Wananga o Aotearoa and Associate Director at KPMG.
The judges said that Joe’s understanding of the importance of good governance, gained through study and participation, made him a clear choice for the title, which was awarded by the Taranaki branch of the Institute of Directors.
Joe says his failure to pass University Entrance in 1997 gave him an important life lesson.
“Since then I have sought out and taken advantage of any opportunity to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. I also believe that I have a responsibility to share that knowledge with others.”
“Joe is an outstanding young man who not only looks to grow himself but also fulfil the aspirations of other Māori and Māori organisations,” says Warwick Tauwhare-George, CEO of PKW. “I am very proud to have him as part of the leadership team here.”
Warwick himself has also been recognised by the IoD by being made a Chartered Member of the organisation.
As well as his role as CEO at PKW, Warwick serves on the boards of Port Nicholson Fisheries, Ngāi Tahu Farming and Ngāmotu Hotels Ltd. A qualified engineer and quantity surveyor, Warwick holds degrees in Accounting and Commercial Law along with an MBA from the University of Wollongong, specialising in Finance and Marketing.
While he puts effective leadership, respect, trust, emotional intelligence and the ability to embrace change at the top of the list of skills a good director needs, he also says it is important to enjoy what you do.
“These announcements come as further confirmation, should we have needed it, of the calibre of people who make up our Executive Leadership Team,” says Hinerangi Raumati- Tu’ua, Chair of the PKW Board. “The wealth of experience and capability Warwick and Joe bring to their roles mean that the interests of PKW and its shareholders are in good hands.”
“I congratulate them both on their achievements.”
