Why choose this course? This degree will develop your knowledge and understanding of concepts in mathematics, statistics and operational research, improving your analytical and technical expertise and allowing you to develop problem solving, communication and I.T skills. You will also be introduced to key concepts in the study and practice of education.
Formal lectures are supported by smaller tutorial groups where the consolidation of understanding, and problem solving, take place. A weekly drop-in mathematics clinic ensures you’ll have access to help when needed, and staff are always willing to see you on a one-to-one basis to resolve problems. You will also have opportunities for short and long term placements which can include classroom experience.
Your career There are a wide variety of opportunities for mathematics graduates, many of whom enter the teaching profession (via a PGCE). Highly motivated individuals are always in demand to inspire the next generation, and many graduates frequently enjoy rapid promotion. Aside from teaching you will find that employers value the problem solving and thinking skills that you have developed, coupled with analytic and numeric competence. Mathematics remains one of the best degrees to take in order to give yourself the chance to embark on a successful and satisfying academic or non-academic career, and your portfolio of education broadens what you can offer.
