How you’ll learn You’ll study computer science with a strong emphasis on practical programming skills, by using cutting-edge software development tools in our industry standard labs. You’ll also spend a year in industry on placement, working alongside industry professionals, enhancing your career prospects and giving you a distinct advantage in the job market.
Your career Upon graduation, you’ll discover industry demand for your new, highly developed skills in software development. The majority of computing jobs require software development abilities and experience, so whether you want to be a software engineer, project manager, technical architect or chief technology officer, this degree will help you get there. This programme is geared toward careers in the software industry or further education in computing.

Throughout the course you’ll gain the knowledge and develop the skills that the industry are looking for. You’ll learn the foundations of computer science, software development and programming.

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 220 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.

What you’ll cover
This course is taught by experienced computer scientists and ex-industry professionals who continue to maintain active links to the industry. You’ll also study a common year which is shared amongst all our technical degrees to ensure students possess the foundational knowledge needed to complete their studies.
You’ll explore the core topics of computer science including computer graphics, software engineering, databases, enterprise systems, systems programming computer language design and implementation. You’ll also spend a year in industry on work placement. You’ll work alongside industry professionals and you’ll see how the knowledge and skills you’ve learnt are put into practice, giving you a distinct advantage when applying for graduate jobs.
As part of my course, I took part in a placement year at Chiasma Data. This was extremely useful, not just for learning new programming languages and techniques, but also finding out more about me and my preferred style of work. Michael Powell
