This course, with three specialist pathways, develops your knowledge, skills and understanding, so you can apply them directly to your work with children and young people aged 0-19 in a variety of education and care settings. It’s valued by employers and endorsed by the National College for Teaching and Leadership. About the course We’ve developed this course with employers in the sector, so it’s relevant and up-to-date, and you will develop the key skills and knowledge they’re looking for. We’ll help you to become a confident, knowledgeable and effective practitioner to work with children, young people and their families. You should already be working in the sector two days per week or have a relevant vocational level 3 qualification and be doing two days voluntary work per week in the sector. Teaching and learning You will learn through reflective tasks, workbased activities, presentations, tutorials and the use of online resources. There are no exams, so you will be assessed using your work-based activities, creative presentations, essays, discussion papers, case studies and portfolios. Everything you will study will be relevant to your everyday work. You will also have the support of a work-based mentor and the tutors at the University.

What you will cover This course is made up of three pathways; Early Years, Teaching Assistant or Health and Social Care, so you can specialise in an area that’s relevant to your everyday work. Stage Two You will choose one module from these: Working with Parents and Carers Children and Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Inclusive Education Bringing Men into Children’s and Young People’s Services International Perspectives Promoting Health Additional information You can top up to a BA (Hons) degree by completing the final stage of a relevant bachelors degree, such as our BA (Hons) Health and Social Care, BA (Hons) Child and Youth Studies, BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies or BA (Hons) Education Studies courses. Other options include studying our Early Years Teacher qualification or an initial teacher training course. Your career There’s a growing demand for qualified practitioners working in children’s and young people’s services, so you will be well-placed to get a job when you graduate. Previous students have been promoted to senior roles and others now lead practice within their current roles.
