When you graduate, you'll have lots of career opportunities in civil engineering in fields such as design, maintenance, asset management and construction. You could work in private companies which specialise in contracting or consulting, for local authorities, water companies, Network Rail or the Highways Agency, for example.

You’ll learn through lectures, seminars, tutorials, on and off site laboratory and site work, visits to companies, workshop laboratories, surveying field work, groupwork and individual assignments. Some traditional exams may also be involved for design tests.

The programme is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators as satisfying the partial requirements for Chartered Engineer and full requirements for Incorporated Engineer.
Diploma in Professional Practice (optional)
This will lead to Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Institution of Highway Engineers following a period of relevant experience and a professional review. If you don't have the appropriate qualifications to start this course, you can apply to study the Technology Foundation Programme for a year first.
Between stage two and three you will have the option of developing your skills and knowledge in the industry by participating in a work placement. On completion of two modules, you’ll be awarded the Diploma in Professional Practice. You’ll take: ▪ Applied Professional Practice ▪ Contemporary Issues in Professional Practice. Stage three You’ll choose modules from: ▪ Geotechnics 3 ▪ Fluid Mechanics.
