Your career Working closely with industry, this course aims to give you the advantage you need when you're starting your career. The academic and practical skills you’ll develop enable you to be flexible when working in a variety of different areas, from commercial, advertising and editorial photography through to location finding and management, photo retail, image manipulation or being a photographer's agent or picture researcher. You'll also be able to go on to postgraduate study, such as our MA Film and Photography programme.

STAGE ONE
SPRING
The assessment of all your practical modules is by submission of practical work, formal presentation of course work, and contribution to individual tutorials, group tutorials and seminars. The context and dissertation modules require you to submit essay work and course work. Practical work makes up 75% of the course, and critical studies 25%.
AUTUMN
This course includes studio workshops, group and individual tutorials, seminars and lectures. This is supported by a programme of visiting photographers and trade suppliers.

Professional Workplace Development Business and Professional Practice
SPRING

You'll build up a mix of technical and creative abilities in photography, including traditional craft based skills and skills in new digital technologies. You'll also look at how to apply what you've learned in the workplace.

Additional information Each year we organise an educational field visit to a cultural centre in Europe or the USA and we visit trade shows and galleries nationally. Day-long field visits to a variety of locations are also offered. At the end of the third year, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your achievements as well as making vital industry contacts at our graduate Degree Show. This creative festival is an ideal platform for you to exhibit your work, and it’s a really high profile event in the city’s arts calendar. We also provide support for graduates starting out in the creative industries, through our incubation unit - Banks Mill. It offers studio workspace and business development activities, in a vibrant and thriving community of artists, designers and makers.
If you don’t have the appropriate qualifications for this course, you can apply to study Year Zero first.
Options Diploma in Professional Practice You’ll have the opportunity of a placement year between stages two and three which will lead to the University’s Diploma in Professional Practice qualification on completion of the following two modules: ▪ Applied Professional Practice ▪ Contemporary Issues in Professional Practice.
