How you’ll learn You’ll be taught through lectures, seminar activities and tutorials to support you through your assessments and group work. You’ll be assessed using essays, reports, posters, presentations, case studies, online tests and independent research. You won’t have to take any exams.
Your career You’ll gain the skills and approaches you’ll need to work with young children in early years settings. You could work in the private, voluntary or independent sector, or join a graduate employment scheme. If you want to teach, you can apply to study our PGCE Primary or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Further Education and Skills) when you graduate. Some students also choose to do further training in social work, nursing or occupational therapy.

You’ll develop your understanding of early childhood from birth to eight years, discovering how children develop, learn and think. You’ll explore the importance of identifying and meeting children’s needs and consider the challenges and opportunities in children’s services, looking at childhood from a range of perspectives. We’ll encourage you to use your own experiences to enhance your knowledge and develop your understanding of early childhood.

STAGE THREE
Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 220 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.
Status during this course; essential if you want to work at leadership level. You could apply to study abroad through the Erasmus Exchange during stage two and go on overseas visits during stages two and three.

Options
You’ll be studying an up to date course delivered by lecturers from a range of backgrounds, including early years, primary teaching, social work, nursery management, health visiting, social sciences, law and ICT, so you’ll gain a wide range of knowledge and expertise from them.

What you’ll cover To make sure you’re ready for work, you’ll also undertake a placement for one or two days each week. This will develop your observational and reflective skills, as well as your practical knowledge of different settings. You’ll also have the opportunity to go on educational visits. Currently our students visit the Museum of Childhood, Think Tank Science Museum and Eureka! The National Children’s Museum.
