Why choose this course? ▪ Rated 9th in the University Guide 2013 UK league table. ▪ This programme can be combined with Countryside Management, Adventure Tourism or Outdoor Recreation, which means that you will study two subject areas, giving you a great range of knowledge and skills for your future career. ▪ You will focus on the eco and sustainability side of tourism which will give you a broad approach to tourism, often lacking in other more narrow tourism degrees. ▪ You will study in the amazing surrounding of Oaklands Manor in Buxton, our 58 acre Outdoor Leadership Centre, making it a perfect place for you to study ecotourism, right in the heart of the Peak District.
About the course You will study tourism modules which will include aspects of tourism, such as the cultural, social and economic importance of travel, hospitality, ethics, and business. You will also study areas which include; the nature of ecotourism, venues such as national parks, eco tourist as a market segment, and marketing aspects of the eco tourist experience.
How you’ll learn Through a range of lectures, practical workshops and real life case studies.
Your career There are lots of exciting career options open to you when you complete this programme in Buxton. Undergraduate study in ecotourism will allow you to progress into the tourism sector: specialising in sustainable/responsible tourism initiatives, both in the public and private sector. There is no current professional accrediting body for ecotourism, however, this course has been developed using guidelines from the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism (HLST) Network. Through our links with regional, national and international tourism organisations this course is supported by employers.
