Why choose this course? You can combine this course with other subjects to gain a range of skills and knowledge that appeal to potential employers. You won’t have to take any exams. We use other ways to assess you including essays, portfolios and presentations. Education Studies received 92% overall satisfaction in the 2013 National Student Survey. About the course You’ll develop a broad spectrum of knowledge about the subject of education. You’ll be encouraged to explore and analyse educational processes, systems and approaches within a social justice framework and the ways in which these impact on, influence and affect individuals within the social construct of education in its broadest sense. Teaching and learning You won’t have to take any exams – you’ll be assessed through essays, presentations, portfolios, reports and case study analysis. Our enthusiastic and experienced team of tutors will guide you through your studies and help you to reach your full potential. During stage two you can go on a 12 day work placement in an educational setting of your choice, which will look great on your CV. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the aims of education and its role within society, learning how education theory relates to the policies and practices which influence it. What you will cover At each stage of the course you’ll be able to choose from a range of different modules to tailor your degree to suit your own interests. You can study this course as either a major, joint or minor subject, which will determine how many modules you’ll choose at each stage.

Additional information You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the aims of education and its role within society, learning how education theory relates to the policies and practices which influence it. The unique feature of this course is its emphasis on psychology, sociology, social policy and the application of these disciplines to contemporary educational debates. Your career You’ll develop skills including time management; organisational skills; independent working; communication skills, including speaking and listening; presentation skills; team working and self-confidence, which are all valuable for a range of employment opportunities. If you want to go on to teach,
you could apply for a PGCE giving you Qualified Teacher Status. If you wish to apply to teach at secondary level, at least 50% of your degree will need to be in an appropriate subject area. Or you could study for a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Further Education and Skills).
