Education Studies (Joint Honours) Where you will study: Derby Campus – Kedleston Road site. Entry requirements: Academic – 220-300 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 200-240 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification. Language – A qualification such as IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all areas) or TOEFL – 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), 80 (internet based). How you’ll learn You won’t have to take any exams – you’ll be assessed through essays, presentations, portfolios, reports and case study analysis. Our enthusiastic and experienced team of tutors will guide you through your studies and help you to reach your full potential.
Your career You’ll develop skills including time management; organisational skills; independent working; communication skills, including speaking and listening; presentation skills; team working and selfconfidence, which are all valuable for a range of employment opportunities. If you want to go on to teach, you could apply for a PGCE giving you Qualified Teacher Status. To do this, at least 50% of your degree will need to be in an appropriate subject area. Or you could study for a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Further Education and Skills).

What you’ll cover
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the aims of education and its role within society, learning how education theory relates to the policies and practices which influence it. The unique feature of this course is its emphasis on psychology, sociology, social policy and the application of these disciplines to contemporary educational debates.
At each stage of the course you’ll be able to choose from a range of different modules to tailor your degree to suit your own interests. You can study this course as either a major, joint or minor subject, which will determine how many modules you’ll choose at each stage.
