Education Studies is like the missing puzzle piece. Once it is found, new knowledge is gained and we can see the many ways in which children can be educated. It can give us the ideas to develop our dream. Charlotte Saunderson Student
Teaching and learning You’ll experience a range of learning methods including lectures, student-led seminars, tutorials and directed independent work. You will also engage proactively as an individual and within peer groups. During stage two you can go on a 12 day work placement in an educational setting of your choice, which will look great on your CV. Throughout the course you won’t have to take any exams – you’ll be assessed through essays, presentations, portfolios, reports and case study analyses. All assignments are fully supported through class discussion, tutorial opportunities and a formative (non-graded) assessment opportunity. What you will cover In stages two and three you will have the opportunity to tailor this course to your own areas of interest by choosing from a range of optional modules. Duration and mode of study: You can study this course full time for three years or part time for up to six years.
About the course This course is built upon a framework of social justice. You will gain in-depth knowledge about what education means for different learner groups in primary, secondary, further and higher education settings. Throughout the course you’ll explore relationships between theory, policy and practice to understand the nature of contemporary education. You could also take a specialist pathway option in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).

Additional information If you are interested in working with students who have a special educational need or disability you can choose to take the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) pathway in stage two. You will explore the changing role of the SEND practitioner and evaluate strategies for understanding and managing the learning needs of students with SEND. Your career In addition to gaining a comprehensive knowledge of what education is and might be, you’ll develop skills to enhance your employability such as organisation, time management, personal confidence and competence in handling both written and oral communications. You’ll be equipped for a wide range of career options including teaching assistant, learning mentor, careers advisor, working in training or within adult and continuing education. You could also progress to apply for postgraduate studies with us such as our PGCE Primary or MA Education.
