There will be formal lectures and some group work as well as seminars. In each module there are tutorials, in which you’ll be preparing for assignments. We will also be screening material and discussing it in the class.

Why choose this course?

Graduates from this course have gone on to have careers in cinema marketing and management, television production, television research, journalism, public relations and radio production. You could also move on to careers in lecturing, teaching, museum work, library work and film archiving.

This course focuses on the critical and theoretical study of the moving image. You’ll benefit from the expertise of our teaching team and learn from industry speakers who will enhance your understanding of film and television theory with their first-hand experience of working in the industry.

If you would like to develop your skills and knowledge further, you'll be able to take postgraduate courses like filmmaking, scriptwriting, journalism, film archiving and teacher training. Or you may wish to pursue your studies on our MA Humanities course.

In addition, you can specialise in either Film Studies or Film and Television Studies from your second year, depending on what you have enjoyed studying and find most interesting.

AUTUMN

Throughout your studies you will develop an in-depth understanding of film and television using a wide variety of disciplines including history, psychology, cultural studies and politics.

STAGE THREE

Entry requirements: Academic – 240 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 200 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.

Additional information You will benefit from the broad range of expertise within your teaching team, which includes subjects such as third cinema, British television drama, cyberbodies and the international horror genre. Some of our lecturers are also award winning filmmakers in their own right. Throughout the course we invite industry speakers to talk to you about their experience of the industry. A recent example is Terry Bamber, one of the team behind James Bond’s last five film outings.
