Film and Television Studies Joint Honours Where you will study: Derby Campus – Kedleston Road site. Entry requirements: Academic – 220-300 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 200-240 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification. Language – A qualification such as IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all areas) or TOEFL – 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), 80 (internet based). Why choose this course? This course focuses on the critical and theoretical study of the moving image. You can combine Film and Television Studies with one or two other subjects to create a varied and interesting joint honours degree. You’ll study at Kedleston Road, at the heart of the Derby campus. It’s equipped with a four storey library that’s crammed with learning resources.

About the course Throughout your studies you will develop an in-depth understanding of film and television using a wide variety of disciplines including history, psychology, cultural studies and politics. You’ll also explore related topics such as scriptwriting.

How you’ll learn Teaching will include many hours of screenings of television programmes, films and extracts. There will also be formal lectures and small group and seminar work. In each module there are tutorials, in which you'll be preparing for assignments. You'll be assessed entirely by coursework - mainly essays and some oral presentation work. In the third year there is an Independent Study of 8000 words.

Your career Graduates from this course have gone on to have media-related careers in marketing or management, television production, television research, journalism, public relations and radio production. You could also move on to careers in lecturing, teaching, museum work, library work and film archiving. Or if you’d like to continue your studies, you'll be able to take a postgraduate qualification like our MA Humanities or MA Humanities – Horror and Transgression.

You will benefit from the broad range of expertise within your teaching team, which includes subjects such as third cinema, British television drama, cyberbodies and the international horror genre. Some of our lecturers are also award winning filmmakers in their own right, enabling them to enhance your understanding of film theory with their first hand experience of working in the industry. Throughout the course you’ll learn from industry speakers - Terry Bamber, one of the team behind James Bond's last five film outings came to talk to students, to share his experiences and give advice.
