Why choose this course? This course is being accredited by the IMeche and Engineering Council, ensuring that you're getting the latest industry knowledge and when you graduate your qualifications will be recognised in the industry. This puts you ahead of the competition in the competitive graduate job market. It will prepare you to become an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) within the engineering industry, so you'll be ready for careers in mechanical engineering design, motorsport or automotive design and in applications of advanced materials.

You could also go on to take our MSc Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and work towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.

AUTUMN

This course gives you a sound basis in engineering principles and practical experience. You'll specialise in modules such as engineering design and modelling and engineering management. All of these subjects are essential to a modern mechanical engineer. You'll also take an individual project module to extend your research and development skills and to give you real experience solving an engineering problem in industry. It's an excellent way for prospective employers to assess your skills for your first job or for career development.

STAGE THREE

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 220 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.

Options

Between the second and third year you will have the option of developing your skills and knowledge in industry by completing an optional work placement for a year. On completion of two modules, you’ll be awarded the Diploma in Professional Practice.

Stage two You’ll choose from: ▪ Vibration and Dynamics ▪ Failure Analysis.

If you don’t have the appropriate qualifications to start this course straight away, you can apply to study the Technology Foundation Programme first.

Diploma in Professional Practice (optional) You’ll take: ▪ Applied Professional Practice ▪ Contemporary Issues in Professional Practice. Stage three You’ll choose from: ▪ Ethics, Environment and Innovation ▪ Computational Fluid Dynamics ▪ Advanced Powertrain Engineering.
