Why choose this course? It's a practical course which gives you knowledge across a range of inter-related media. All of our courses are taught by active researchers and practitioners, who will inspire and challenge you and help you to get the most out of your studies. The staff who teach the theoretical courses and modules have all published, and those who deliver the practical components have first hand experience of working in the media industries.

Your career This course prepares you for a career in the media by giving you lots of practical skills and knowledge. What you learn could help you go on to find work as a producer or maker of media products, such as TV or radio programmes, newspapers or websites. If you would like to pursue your studies to gain a postgraduate qualification, you may wish to take our MA Humanities course.

As well as lectures, you’ll have an opportunity to go on a number of trips. Previous trips have been arranged to the London Film Festival, the National Museum for Photography, Film and Television in Bradford and the Derby Telegraph.

Duration: 3 years full time

You'll develop a broad understanding of producing media products as you'll receive hands-on experience of production and the process of designing and producing media texts.

AUTUMN

This course will introduce you to the study and practice of a range of media forms and institutions. It focuses on how media engages with society, with practice based modules encouraging your creativity and understanding of the shaping of media products.

STAGE THREE

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 220 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.

We offer professional standard technical production, teaching and research facilities run by a team of specialist staff with experience in broadcast industries, including the BBC and ITV regionally, nationally and internationally.

Stage two You’ll choose from: ▪ Media Law ▪ Professional Writing Workshop ▪ Print Production ▪ Work Based Learning in the Creative and Cultural Industries ▪ Media Ethics.

Our facilities are constantly upgraded to ensure you are using the same equipment and software you will be expected to use in the industry. In our state of the art media suite at Markeaton Street we have some of the best post-production facilities in the country with over 150 Final Cut Pro X and Premiere Pro editing workstations, and 4 craft editing suites with Avid Nitris DX facilities.

Stage three You’ll choose two modules from: ▪ Television Production 3: TV Drama ▪ Digital Publishing 3: Professional Digital Portfolio ▪ Radio Production 3. You’ll choose one module from: ▪ Schedules and Margins ▪ Documentary and Factual Production: Poetics and Praxis ▪ Professional Writing Portfolio ▪ Management Experience in the Creative and Cultural Industries.
