Your career This course will give you the confidence and the skills you need to progress into the international world of motorsport. Previous Derby graduates have gone on to find employment with companies like Cosworth, Zytec and EPM Technologies. They've gone from the University to race all over the world and to working with international race teams in F1, GP2, FIAGT and with a variety of national teams.

Professional Development and Business Accountability

SPRING

You'll study in our state of the art workshop complete with a rolling road dynamometer, computerised set-up equipment and engine test facilities. You'll take part in live projects such as the ‘Transformer Car’ created by our students, which will be used by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.

AUTUMN

Our Motorsport course has got a strong focus on getting you a job and will prepare you for the real world of the motorsport industry. You're expected to take an active role in project work, whether it's designing supercharger applications or building your own telemetry equipment. We've also got a great range of vehicles and systems available for you to study, ranging from racing motorcycles to dragsters.

STAGE THREE

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 220 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.

Options

The key compulsory elements of the course include Advanced Power Train Engineering, Motorsport Chassis Design and Dynamics and a variety of applied modules.

Stage two You’ll choose from: ▪ Design for Manufacture and Materials Optimisation ▪ Structural Analysis and Materials.

There are lots of events for you to get real life experience at, including scrutineering and marshalling training, exhibitions and race meetings. The Le Mans 24-hour race has also been on our social calendar for the last six years.

Diploma in Professional Practice (optional) You’ll take: ▪ Applied Professional Practice ▪ Contemporary Issues in Professional Practice.

You can also gain vital industry experience with a work placement between stage two and three, which will also give you the additional qualification of the Diploma in Professional Practice.

Stage three You’ll choose from: ▪ Advanced Engineering Design Modelling ▪ Computational Fluid Dynamics.

If you don’t have the appropriate qualifications to study this course, you can apply to study the Technology Foundation Programme for a year first.
