UCAS code: You do not need to apply through UCAS for this course – find out how to apply at www.education.gov.uk Entry requirements: You will need an undergraduate honours degree (preferably 2:1) or an equivalent qualification as approved by our senior admissions officer. You will also need GCSE grade C or above in English Language, Maths and Science and a wide range of recent experience in UK primary schools. You will need to have successfully completed the National College for Teaching and Leadership’s skills test for literacy and numeracy before enrolment. Acceptance on to this course will also be conditional on successful completion of standard health and DBS (formerly CRB) checks. Duration and mode of study: You will study this course for one year full time. Fees: This is a premium course, so it costs £9,000. Start date: You can start this course in September.

About the course This course will give you Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and will prepare you fully for the practical demands of teaching, including the teaching of all National Curriculum subjects. Depending on your preference and prior experience, you may choose to specialise in teaching Early Years (3-7 year olds), Primary (5-11 year olds), or Later Years (7-11 year olds). Each route will provide a Specialist Subject Enhancement and study of school-related issues at masters level. Teaching and learning You will spend most of your time learning how to teach in schools linked to our network of partner schools and teaching schools. You will work closely with a school-based mentor who will help you to develop key skills in becoming a successful teacher. As part of an alliance of schools, you will engage in regular training sessions with other trainees from across your alliance. You will also spend time here at the University working in our excellent facilities with university and school-based tutors. This will provide an additional dimension to your development as a confident and reflective practitioner. You will learn through a range of workshops, seminars, tutorials and lectures.

Autumn

We received ‘Outstanding’ results from the most recent Ofsted reports and were also ranked in the top twenty for primary education teacher training in the prestigious Good Teacher Training Guide 2012. You will be taught by a team of university and school tutors with a strong national and international reputation for the quality of their training and research. This ensures you will be taught all the relevant and up to date theory from the sector.

Effective Learning Specialist Subject and Teaching: Enhancement English and (Masters) Mathematics with ICT

Assessment All of your assessments will be related to your school placements. These will comprise in-depth project-based essays relating to school-based issues, plus the opportunity to reflect on and discuss your developing subject knowledge needs with university and schoolbased tutors. You will also present academic posters and provide a verbal update on your growing professional capabilities. School-based and university tutors will monitor and assess your progress towards the Teachers’ Standards. Additional information Your main training school will provide most of the teaching experiences you require to succeed. Enhanced placement opportunities will aim to complement these by providing opportunities for you to work in diverse settings and helping you to apply your growing skills as a teacher confidently and flexibly. Together, they will provide you with the challenging and exciting experience you need. Throughout your placements, you will be supported by our trained school mentors and link tutors.

Understanding the Effective Learning and Teaching in Child as a Learner (Masters) Science and the Wider Understanding the Curriculum School as a Learning Community (Masters)

Your career By choosing teaching as a career, you will have chosen an important and satisfying profession as well as a challenging and rewarding journey through life. When you have completed this course, you will have gained 60 credits at masters level which will allow you to fast track to stage two of a masters degree, quickly progressing your professional development.
