Popular Music Production Joint Honours Where you will study: Derby Campus – Markeaton Street site. Entry requirements: Academic – 220-300 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 200-240 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification. If you combine it with a classroom-based subject, it will cost £9,945 per year*. If you combine it with a resource-intensive subject or a specialist subject it will cost £10,225 per year*. Why choose this course? If you want to work in the commercial music sector of the entertainment industry, as a singer, songwriter, musician or producer for example, this course is ideal for you. You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in music production and recording.
About the course Through our Joint Honours Scheme you can combine two or three subjects to tailor your degree to your interests, areas of skill and career aspirations. Popular Music Production is part of the Electronics and Sound subject group, so you'll be studying with other students who are also interested in electronics, media technologies, and popular music. Our staff are also actively involved in applied research in these areas.

When you graduate you'll be well prepared to work as a performer, producer or recording engineer in the industry, or you could choose to work in areas such as sound design or sound for games.
You’ll beneft from the facilities at Markeaton Street that include a brand new suite of state of the art recording studios and post-production rooms.
How you’ll learn You’ll learn through lectures, face to face tutorials and practical work in the studios. Studio work will involve developing skills in preparing and recording programme material, and then processing and editing it to create a finished product. You will often be required to work to strict deadlines with others in a group on a production. Presentation of musical, video or multimedia work and other practical artefacts may be a part of the assessment process in some modules.
You could also become a music teacher if you study a PGCE after you’ve completed your degree. You'll have the ability and confidence to deal with professional bodies such as the Performing Rights Society (PRS), British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, British Phonographic Industry (BPI), and the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS).
Every year we stage our graduate Degree Show. The event provides you with the opportunity to showcase your final year work as well as making vital industry contacts, and it’s a really high profile event in the city’s calendar. If you don't have the appropriate qualifications to start this course, you can apply to study the Technology Foundation Programme for a year first.
