Psychology (Joint Honours) Where you will study: Derby Campus – Kedleston Road site. Entry requirements: Academic – 220-300 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 200-240 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification. If you combine it with a classroom-based subject, it will cost £9,945 per year*. If you combine it with a resource-intensive subject or a specialist subject it will cost £10,225 per year*. Why choose this course? If you choose psychology as the major subject in your joint honours degree, and achieve the minimum standard of second class honours, the course confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British
Psychological Society. This is the first step to becoming a professional psychologist. You can combine this subject with a range of other subjects to keep your options open and study what you’re most interested in.
About the course Psychology is the scientific study of human thought and behaviour. You’ll cover the social, developmental, cognitive and biological dimensions of behaviour and the applications of psychology in a wide range of areas. Our staff are active in research, so you’ll be kept right up to date with current developments.
How you’ll learn We want you to get the most out of studying and learn in the most effective way. You’ll take part in lectures, seminars, workshops, group activities and practical work and have the opportunity to work in innovative ways using web forums and virtual learning environments, such as Second Life. Recent quality inspectors praised us ‘for being at the forefront of technology enhanced learning’. As a joint honours student you’ll be supported by Academic Counsellors who can give you guidance across your overall degree.
Your career This course will prepare you for further professional training in psychology. You’ll develop transferrable skills, such as good communication and IT skills, which are invaluable for a variety of careers outside psychology. Previous graduates have qualified in clinical and educational psychology, enrolled for PhDs and worked in other professions where psychological knowledge is relevant, such as teaching or working in mental health settings.

What you’ll cover
We’ve got excellent facilities, including high specification computing labs with software for designing experiments, and a range of psychological recording equipment. Our observation suite has video recording facilities and a state of the art eye tracker, which allows you to analyse eye movements. We’re not involved in animal research.
You can combine Psychology with one or two other joint honours courses that are offered at our Derby Campus to create your own joint honours degree. You will be taught with students studying BSc (Hons) Psychology, but the modules you’ll study will depend on how you decide to combine the subjects you choose. This subject can be studied as a major, joint or minor pathway as part of your joint honours degree.
