Why choose this course? Our teaching team are actively involved in coaching, consultancy and research, and many are accredited by various industry associations. You can also apply for internships with clubs and organisations such as Derby County Football Club, Derventio eXcel Swimming Club and Derbyshire County Cricket Club to enhance your development.
You’ll learn through lectures, seminars, practicals and technology enhanced innovations. You’ll be involved in coaching sessions, management case studies and community sport development work. You’ll be assessed on your knowledge, applied practical and research skills, which will all take place in our new specialised facilities.
Your career This is the start of your career so achieving a good degree and gaining employability skills along the way are key. Recent graduates have secured jobs in coaching, sport development, teaching, the fitness industry, sport management or sport media and marketing. You could teach physical education at primary or secondary level by completing relevant postgraduate training, or study our MRes in Sport and Exercise enabling you to gain skills in teaching and research, with the potential to progress to PhD level.

If you're interested in areas such as sport management, sport coaching, sport development and the social aspects of sport, then this course is an excellent choice for you. Enhancing your employability through work placements and internship opportunities is a key part of this course. You’ll also be assigned your own personal tutor who will support you and help structure your personal development and career planning.

Entry requirements: Academic – 240 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 200 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.

Options
There are opportunities to gain National Governing Body coaching awards in a range of sports that will develop your confidence, leadership skills and employability. You’ll also benefit from masterclass sessions from sport and exercise professionals about their experiences and career development. You can test and measure health and fitness and utilise computer software packages to analyse the results of performance in our new labs. You can also get involved with Team Derby which covers our courses, sports clubs, facilities and the Athletics Union.

What you’ll cover You’ll study subjects of sports coaching, management and development and you’ll also choose from a range of optional modules so you can follow your interests and tailor the course to your career aspirations. Throughout the course you’ll develop your research skills to prepare you for your final research project.
