Wild and Three Hi! I’m Barb Wilson, the newest member of the Thunder Roads Michigan family. My hubby Big Guy and I are the proud new owners of a 2017 HD Tri Glide Ultra, in Vivid Black/107 c.i.d. Big Guy has been riding cycles since the 1970s. He’s owned several motorcycles and even a few snowmobiles and boats along the way; his newest goal is to convince me that wind therapy is a necessity in my life. When we began discussing purchasing a motorcycle, I supported him completely, but I did put my foot down on a couple of issues. One, I wanted some creature comforts— among other things, lots of seat padding. As I explained to him, “I know what those roads are like, and my behind is already cracked; it doesn’t need to be broken.” In addition, I bought several dead cows’ worth of leather—in the form of vests, chaps, jackets, and gloves—to block chilly Michigan breezes and extend the riding season; sturdy helmets, complete with visors; and a well-made pair of comfortable boots. And of course, some really cute T-shirts full of bling were included in my shopping trip. Second issue: when I’m cold or need a bio break, we STOP. No discussion, no arguments; as soon as the next available restroomequipped facility appears on the side of the highway, we are aiming toward it in a straight line. The purpose of my column is to share my trike adventures, and focus on the rides and people we meet along the way.
