Foreword As Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council I am extremely proud to support the Council’s ongoing commitment to ensuring Access and Inclusion is at the forefront of all that we achieve and set out to do for our residents and visitors. I am delighted that Derry City and Strabane District Council will be leading The Accessible Disability Arts Festival from Monday 27th March- Friday 31st March 2017 in association with Public Health Agency. This Festival has been a collective and collaborative approach, and a prime example of partnership working, which includes fourteen venues from Castlederg to Elington involved throughout the five day festival. There are many exciting performances and activities for everyone to see and take part in. TADA Fest 2017 is not only making a difference to the pan disability community and families, but is also leading the way in good practice, ensuring that cultural activities are more accessible and inclusive. Involvement in cultural activity has been identified on a local level to be of tremendous benefit to our residents’ Health and Wellbeing and it is great to see us moving towards this with such commitment. Many of the shows include relaxed performances, Dementia Friendly, age friendly, sign language interpreters, loop systems, presentations, and exhibitions. There will be guests coming from Liverpool for round table discussions in The Guildhall on 30th March and a fantastic finale on Friday 31st in The Guildhall Square, from 2.00pm - 7.00pm, not to be missed. The inaugural TADA Festival is part of our commitment and combined efforts to reduce barriers to living a fulfilling life, and importantly our residents recognise that they are valued members of our society. In order to have a successful TADA festival, we need the support of all stakeholders to ensure that we deliver collectively what is needed to make our region fully inclusive and accessible. Our pan disability community are recognised throughout our society. We need to ensure that mind-sets and attitudes are positively changed and that our pan disability community have access to information and activities as we continuously look at ways to eliminate causes of inequality. It is paramount that everyone has access to an environment that they feel part of and can contribute to. By working together I genuinely believe that TADA Fest 2017 will be successful and that TADA fest 2017, the first of its kind in DCSDC will be a great platform to develop from, both to highlight access and inclusion and continuing the process of access and inclusion in all activities within culture, whilst good practice can be shared and developed.
