A shared resting place for both communities since 1853, this tour guided by both Catholic and Protestant tour guides – will inform participants about its shared history and connections with the ‘Troubles’.

Facilitated workshop for young people, challenging their preconceived ideas about recent bonfires in the town and how people involved with these events were labelled as a result. The event hopes to encourage understanding of other cultural traditions while overcoming prejudices and stereotypes.

Aimed at promoting respect and mutual understanding of other cultures and traditions, this training session will equip the community sector within the Faughan and surrounding areas to deal with good relation issues.

Screening a DVD made with a group of participants from different communities in Lisburn and Castlereagh, this event will showcase the work of ISPS and how the programme works toward peace and reconciliation.

Young people from Outer North & the local Chinese community in Derry will participate in workshops to promote mutual understanding and acceptance of each other. The event will provide a safe and secure environment for these young people to explore their values and beliefs and challenge stereotypes.

Generation X is a coding workshops aimed at young people aged between 11 -19 years old. This is to help young people to create websites, games apps etc. There are 6 coding activities over a 3 hour session.

Travellers Culture Awareness Training

Aiming to dispel myths and increase understanding, participants will explore Traveller culture, increasing awareness and capacity to engage with the Traveller community.

My City, My Craft

Private event: City scape activity incorporating familiar landmarks such as the Peace Bridge, the river Foyle and the Guildhall which will support the learning and development of pre-school children from all corners of the city. The children will be encouraged to work positively together and it is hoped that they can sustain the relationships they forge at this young age.

Syrian Women’s Event Private Event

Aimed at integrating Syrian and refugee women who have recently moved to the city, this event allows women from different cultures to interact and share stories of their experiences, backgrounds, troubles and challenges to ultimately improve tolerance, respect and celebrate diversity.

Seminar: The War’s not over yet!

The Junction’s Ethical and Shared Remembering Project will host a seminar to examine the legacy of the Treaty of Versailles and the impact this peace agreement had on future conflicts around the world. Led by Seamus Farrell, the event will encourage participants to ask important questions about democracy and civic society.

This event will create an evening of understanding and celebration of different cultures that exist in the local community. These multicultural workshops will consist of Henna art, Bollywood dancing, Ibuki Taiko drums, Polish crafts and Ulster Scots and tasters of different traditional foods.

Is Democracy on the way out?

Author Johnston McMaster will deliver a seminar examining the theory that democracy is on the way out. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss this theory and debate how the future of Northern Ireland, Europe and indeed the world is all dependent on the future of democracy.

Launch of LGBT Scheme

This is a launch event of a pilot scheme being delivered by First Housing Aid and Support Services. This scheme consists of different agencies across the city working together to create safe space for vulnerable members of the LGBT community.

Traditions Meet

The event will involve live music & dancers from Country, Irish and Scottish traditions performing at the Diamond in Castlederg Town centre. This event will help participants improve levels of tolerance and respect for different cultures while celebrating them together.

A multicultural evening that will showcase the culture and traditions of the young people who are participating in a youth inclusion programme at the Waterside Youth centre. The event will consist of traditional food, music, dance, arts and crafts and traditional clothing from countries such as India, Philippines and Egypt.

Frances Quinn will perform from her extensive repertoire of Irish and multicultural stories, verse and dramatic monologues. The event has been funded by the ‘Peg and Jim Armstrong Bursary’ and will help to promote mutual respect and understanding for the Irish language in a safe and shared place.

The Social Conscience of the Song

Focusing on how artistic expression can unite communities, this live musical performance and interactive discussion will trace the history of songs that became the soundtrack to generations and causes, including civil rights, the ‘Troubles’, anti-war, class struggles and LGBTQ rights.

This Polish film screening (inc. English subtitles) gives all minority and majority communities a chance to participate in the cultural experience of one of the largest ethnic minorities in NI.

Mixed Martial Arts Showcase – Fight to Unite

Date: Saturday 23rd September, Sunday 24th September Time: 12.30pm – 6.30pm Venue: Foyle Arena, St. Columbs Park

Cross community youth clubs from across Derry and Belfast will come together to for a mixed martial arts showcase involving the M Powered project from St. Columbs Park House. Young people taking part will learn more about the good relations work going on locally and also see first-hand how the park can be used as a safe and shared space.

Private tour to Belfast for young people from both Protestant and Catholic backgrounds in Castlederg, exposing them to the political division that exists in the Falls and Shankill areas to see and hear how young people living in this area are trying to overcome their experiences of conflict. The event will give young people from these three communities the opportunity to share and compare their personal experiences.

Nurture – Nature

This event will use biodiversity as a tool to improve cross community and intergenerational relations and promote a better understanding of disability. It will bring individuals of all ages and backgrounds from across the city together.

Make Them Visible – Oxfam exhibition

Oxfam exhibition featuring images from South Sudan and people who have had to flee this country. The exhibition hopes to make ‘these invisible people’ visible by highlighting the situation of South Sudanese refugees and raise awareness of the challenges they often face.

Every Story Matters

Community groups from across the city will participate in individual reading at the Rathmore Centre and Caw Community Centre culminating in a joint reading at the Verbal Arts Centre. This is an opportunity for groups to share stories, traditions and beliefs so their voices can be heard.

Community Relations Exhibition Launch - Human Library for School: Galvanising the Peace

Over numerous years Holywell Trust has been recording community relations events. With hundreds of photographs an exhibition will be launched with anecdotes from previous participants. Also Galvanising the Peace report and podcast will be launched throughout the week.
