5PM – 11PM
SYNC STAGE CULTURE NIGHTS 2016 WELCOME On behalf of Derry City and Strabane District Council it gives me great pleasure to announce our Culture Night programme, which will take place on Friday 16th September 2016. Culture Night has become one of the highlights of our events calendar. It is the evening each year when arts and cultural organisations throughout Ireland open their doors to the public with special or extended night time events, all offered free of charge. This year, Derry and Strabane will join over 40 participating locations and over 350,000 visitors enjoying this special programme of events. Our Council district is well known for its rich arts and cultural offering and Culture Night provides the perfect opportunity to sample just a taster of what we have to offer. This year’s programme is packed full of dance, music, song, film, art, and a series of talks and tours in some of our most historic cultural buildings. I hope that you get the chance to enjoy as much of the programme as possible and look forward to seeing you on the night. Mayor Alderman Hilary McClintock

CULTURE NIGHTS 2016
Venue / City wide 4pm-Late The best of emerging young talent through the Nerve Centres SYNC programme will be showcased for Culture Night. The event will be produced by ‘Set the Stage’ a youth event management programme run by the Nerve Centre. The Nerve Centre’s SYNC ‘Music Promise in the Community’ initiative offered free access to music creation, collaboration, performance, production and mentoring opportunities to every young person in Derry~Londonderry throughout 2013. Since March 2013, it has delivered over 30 weeks of musical, creative and performance development sessions to the participants. This has lead to the creation, recording and distribution of their own songs on local and national radio. The young people have also been performing within their communities as an aid to building confidence and then graduating from community stages to larger club venues and festivals. Based on the success of the project, the Nerve Centre will continue to deliver the SYNC programme to hundreds of young people.

CULTURE NIGHTS 2016
Since being established the partnership has delivered a number of programmes and initiatives across the North West in some of the most disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland. The partnership believe that heritage and culture are important to all communities; they give communities a sense of place and help them to understand who they are and have confidence in their identity. Cultural identity is an important aspect of their focus as they feel that rather than divide communities cultural identity can be used to unite if focused properly and encouraged. We welcome all visitors on Culture Night to experience a sample of our cultural expression and share our vision for a new Cultural Hub.
