Lynsey McGarrigle a Strabane native developed the ‘Haus Of MoHawk’ fashion brand in 2012. Since its launch it has won numerous awards and recently showcased for a second season at London Fashion Week in September 2016 where the new accessories line sold out.

How did you become a designer? I realised in

Secondary School that I wanted to pursue a career in fashion. This led me to complete a foundation degree in Art and Design followed by a HND in Fashion and Textiles Design at North West Regional College.

8

What is your background?

I was raised in Strabane by my loving parents. I became involved in the fashion industry from a young age, working from age fifteen within the industry in retail and as a model.

What inspires your designs? I believe there

should be no restriction or limitations on what can be considered ‘ inspiring’. I am inspired by all that surrounds me and allow each one of my senses to influence my design concepts and processes. Read Lynsey’s full interview at: derrystrabane.com/ fashionfest

Jen Kelly Derry born Couture Designer, Jen Kelly has dressed presidents and princesses. Having grown up in the city he now counts the likes of Michelle Obama and the Saudi Royal family as customers to his bespoke designs. He has also had his specially designed fabrics bought for creations by couture power houses such as Dior and Chanel.

When did you get your big break as a designer?

While working as a designer for RTE I was tasked to create the costumes for the Riverdance troupe on the year Ireland hosted the Eurovision Song Contest. As we all now know, they went on to

global success which introduced my designs to an global audience. Since then I’ve established myself as an international designer in the world of haute couture and have worked with a number of high profile clients and design houses.

What inspires your designs?

As to what inspires my designs, I take inspiration from many things. As a young child I was drawn to ornate, intricate designs and rich fabrics like those used church buildings. My own designs are created in a similar fashion, preciously hand crafted with attention to the finest details with intricate, detailed tailoring.
