All Kinds of Everything 16th and 17th March 2013 Join us in the City of Culture for the St Patrick’s Day Spring Carnival and experience a programme steeped in LegenDerry fun, history, culture and tradition where All Kinds of Everything will be brought together for a family friendly and inclusive event to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Walled City Market Browse and experience the ultimate speciality retailing experience right in the heart of the city featuring a mouth watering array of foods plus a delightful display of arts, crafts, unique gifts and much more. The market opens from 10am – 4pm.
Lá na Gaeilge (Irish Language Day) a celebration of Irish language and culture to round off Irish Language Week 2013. This year is Bliain na Gaeilge (The National Year of Irish) and here in the city we’ll be celebrating all things Irish with an outdoor céilí, traditional music sessions, an Irish Language Information Point and arts and crafts activities for families. Supported by the Mayor’s Initiative the Music Stage will feature Comhaltas Dhoire who, as hosts of this year’s All Ireland Fleadh, are sure to put on a display which will celebrate the city’s rich Irish traditional musical talent with a day long programme of toe-tapping jigs & reels. Music from 12.00 - 4.00pm.

All Kinds of Everything St Patrick’s Day Spring Carnival As the well known song suggests, this year’s Carnival is set to bring together a blend of participants to celebrate our city’s rich and diverse culture.
Carnival Parade Time: 2 – 3:00pm
This year’s parade takes audiences on a journey across land, sea and sky to uncover All Kinds of Everything on a magic adventure. Celtic and Greek mythology will blend with the rhythms and colours of many lands to create a high octane and colourful pulsating start to the Carnival. Then the City’s life long association with water will be celebrated with its display of Underwater Magic featuring mermaids, sea creatures and other aquatic surprises. As the carnival progresses participants travel back in time to the 70’s and the Undertones Punk Rock the Boat section which will then blend seamlessly to the Sky Journey where the weathermakers, exotic birds and flying machines will swoop and soar to complete the parade in a spectacular finale.

Carnival Route: Parade commences at Derry City Council car park travelling towards the Strand Road turn left towards the City Hotel and moving along Queens Quay returning to the council car park. 1.30pm Taiko Japanese drummers sound out from the small stage on the quay opposite the city hotel, signaling that the All Kinds of Everything Spring Carnival will soon be underway!
Large crowds are expected to line the route of the parade so please come early to avoid any disappointment.

............................................................................ The city’s civic square becomes the focal point for the Spring Carnival day long celebrations. The Walled City Market continues on the 17th March, providing a rich offering of foods, arts & crafts, gifts and more to the thousands of spectators expected to throng in the city centre on St Patrick’s Day. The Market opens from 12pm - 6pm. Spring Sounds Live Music Stage Guildhall Square @ 12noon – 6pm An exciting mix of traditional and contemporary music and dance featuring some of the City of Culture’s finest performers and players. 12noon – 1.30pm Derry Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Traditional music from Craobh Dhoire CCÉ – in the home of the Fleadh Cheoil 2013. 1.30pm-2pm Dance Fusion An astounding mix of Traditional Irish Dance fused with contemporary modern brought to you by the Dolphin School of Dance – not to be missed.

............................................................................ 3pm- 4pm Sontas Drawing on the influence of both their Irish and Scottish backgrounds blended with contemporary playing styles and arrangements in a way you won`t have heard before Wowing local and international audiences, Sontas have created a sound and visual spectacle that is both technically impressive and hugely entertaining. 4pm-4.40pm Ard Rí The Ard Rí Band is a folk influenced act which includes current and past members of Paddy Nash & The Happy Enchiladas, Cashier No.9, Teknopeasant, Little Hooks, Here Comes The Landed Gentry, Red Organ Serpent Sound, The Whole Tribe Sings, The New Capris & Cuckoo. 4.40pm- 6pm Gigs in the Hood Spring Carnival hosts the first ever Gigs in the Hood – A Practice Makes Perfect initiative which will see live music events by and for local teens pop up in communities nities all across the city. city Local Busker, Luke Mac hosts and performs at this event which features some of the city’s top talents.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2013 ~ Irish Language Week

Bígí linn le Seachtain na Gaeilge a cheiliúradh i gCathair an Chultúir i mBliain na Gaeilge! Irish Language Week is celebrated each year by Irish speaking communities throughout the island of Ireland. It is the biggest international Irish language festival which aims to inspire the public use of the language with a programme of fun events. Éigse Cholm Cille 1st & 2nd March An annual Irish Language and Literature weekend festival celebrating writing in the Irish language in the North West. The festival theme for 2013 seeks to explore the connection between the diaspora and the Irish language: ‘An Ghaeilge ar an Oileán Úr’ (The Irish Language in the New World).

The festival aims to encourage a love of books and reading in Irish among primary-age children and will include an Irish language Book Fair and fun, interactive Irish language reading events held at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin. The locally-produced Irish language children’s book ‘Déanann Rosie Réidh’ will be launched as part of the festival.
