BIM Levels Explained
BIM LEVEL 0 BIM LEVEL 1 BIM LEVEL 2 BIM LEVEL 3BIM LEVEL 0
This level refers to the absence of BIM. Information is mainly exchanged in 2D drawings, and there is little to no collaboration between parties involved in the project.
BIM LEVEL 1
This level involves the use of 3D modeling software, but the models are not necessarily shared among the project team. Information exchange remains primarily 2D.
BIM LEVEL 2
This level requires the use of a collaborative 3D BIM model, which is shared among all members of the project team. The model contains information about the building components, such as specifications and materials, and supports project coordination and management.
BIM LEVEL 3
Although it has not been fully defined yet, the vision has been broadly outlined to set out key measures including but not limited to paving way for increased collaboration across the stakeholders through Open Data standards, establishing new contractual frameworks for project delivery, driving the awareness and cultural environment among stakeholders to increase cooperation, learn and share new data requirements, tools and technologies, and contractual processes, thereby facilitating global growth and jobs in technology and construction.
