Arizona Indigenous: New Turned Wood by Philip & Matt Moulthrop

February 6 – May 3 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. | Daily Ottosen Gallery Included with membership or paid Garden admission. The Desert Botanical Garden presents new works by world-renowned artists Philip and Matt Moulthrop. The exhibition features a collection of turned wood that reveals the inherent beauty of trees and shrubs native to Arizona. Woodturning has been a Moulthrop family legacy for three generations, and their pieces are immediately recognizable by their distinct contemporary forms. You can find their work in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute, the American Craft Museum of New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Spring Butterfly Exhibit March 7 – May 10 | 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. | Daily Maxine and Jonathan Marshall Butterfly Pavilion Take a stroll through the beautiful Marshall Butterfly Pavilion and find yourself surrounded by hundreds of fluttering butterflies. Watch as butterflies sip nectar and bask in the sun in this lush and colorful habitat. Special outdoor displays showcase plants that attract butterflies. Supported by The Fred Maytag Family Foundation.

Meet the Caterpillars

Saturdays, March 7 – April 18 | 10 - 11 a.m. Join us Saturday mornings to learn more about the caterpillars that turn into beautiful butterflies. Want to know how a caterpillar forms a chrysalis or why some caterpillars have spines? Get a hands-on, up-close look at the caterpillars and go on a butterfly walk with a naturalist to learn more about butterfly host plants (limit 25 people per walk). No RSVP required. Wildflowers at the Garden This Spring Visit the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Loop Trail to experience a kaleidoscope of color as desert wildflowers bloom throughout the spring. Trail closes at sunset. Included with membership or paid Garden admission.

Wildflower Tracking in Arizona During the months of March and April, visit the Garden’s Wildflower InfoSite at dbg.org/wildflowers to see where and when this season’s desert wildflowers are blooming around Arizona.

Saturday, January 24 | 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Included with membership or paid Garden admission. Dog admission $4 each. Proceeds from dog admissions benefit the Arizona Humane Society. Bring the whole family, dogs included, to visit the Garden. Walk the Garden trails and socialize with other dog lovers. Pose for family photos against breathtaking backgrounds. Meet vendors with samples of dog food and treats. Attend interesting presentations and learn about pet-focused non-profits. All dogs must be on a leash and remain on marked trails at all times. All dogs must be up-to-date on all vaccinations and registrations. Handlers are required to pick up after their dogs and properly dispose of their waste. Desert Botanical Garden reserves the right to refuse entry to or remove any dog thought to be dangerous to other dogs or visitors. Dogs will only be admitted to the Garden between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Programming subject to change.

Scottsdale Artists League Spring Paintout Saturdays | Throughout the Garden March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 4 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Included with membership or paid Garden admission. Spend the day observing and visiting with 50 of Scottsdale Artists League’s best landscape painters as they capture Garden scenes. All the artwork from the Paintout will be on display and for sale the final weekend.
