From the canyon-like enclosure of the Desert Terrace Garden, Garden visitors emerge into the Jan and Tom Lewis Desert Portal — the central hub of the Desert Discovery Loop Trail — enjoy elegantly designed plantings and shade from an iconic, architectural trellis. Plantings feature a cottage-style arrangement of perennials and desert blooming shrubs showcasing sweeps of seasonal color.
SAM AND BETTY KITCHELL FAMILY HERITAGE GARDEN North of historic Webster Center are the Garden’s original plantings from 1939. Completed in February 2016, this area is now transformed into the Sam and Betty Kitchell Family Heritage Garden with two unique areas: the Fine Family Contemplation Garden and the Cardon Plaza.
COMING SOON A NEW HORTICULTURE CENTER Currently under construction, the new Center will open in winter 2017, providing Garden scientists and horticulturists with optimal greenhouse facilities to care for the world-class plant collection and increased capacity to support desert plant conservation work in the field. Members, visitors and industry professionals will have opportunities for behind-the-scenes learning experiences about the art and science of nurturing plants.
The great outdoors and the great indoors, all in one. Have you ever noticed that folks always say the great outdoors? Well, what about the great indoors? Can’t they be great, too? They sure can. And Maravilla Scottsdale is a perfect example. Some would say it’s about as beautiful as a retirement community can be. But here’s the best part. Maravilla is located smack-dab in the middle of the great outdoors, too. And you can take advantage of it all by joining one (or several) of our many active clubs. Come experience the great indoors AND outdoors for yourself at Maravilla Scottsdale. Please call 480.267.9027 to schedule your complimentary lunch and tour.
STUDY, RESTORE AND PROMOTE In addition to enhancing our exhibitions and experiences on-site for visitors, the Garden is reaching beyond the Garden through its leadership of the Central Arizona Conservation Alliance — a partnership to study, restore and promote the metro Phoenix desert mountain parks.
