And Maravilla Scottsdale is a perfect example. Some would say it’s about as beautiful as a retirement community can be. But here’s the best part. Maravilla is located smack-dab in the middle of the great outdoors, too. And you can take advantage of it all by joining one (or several) of our many active clubs. Come experience the great indoors AND outdoors for yourself at Maravilla Scottsdale. Please call 480.267.9027 to schedule your complimentary lunch and tour.

THE SAGUARO INITIATIVE “TSI” is a multi-year fund campaign to strengthen the Garden’s horticulture program and its world-class exhibits, to engage a greater number of visitors, and to take our knowledge and public programs into Valley communities through the Central Arizona Conservation Alliance and Community Gardening efforts.

SAM AND BETTY KITCHELL FAMILY HERITAGE GARDEN North of historic Webster Center are the Garden’s original 1939 plantings. Renovations in 2015 transformed this space and created two unique areas: the Fine Family Contemplation Garden and the Cardon Plaza. Additional plantings, placement of interpretive signs and installation of the final Founders Wall are continuing through early February, when we will celebrate completion of the project.

NEW HORTICULTURE CENTER Currently under construction, a new horticultural center will open in fall 2016, providing Garden scientists and horticulturists with optimal greenhouse facilities to care for our world-class plant collection and to provide increased capacity to support desert plant conservation work in the field. Members, visitors and industry professionals will have opportunities for behind-the-scenes tours and classes about the art and science of nurturing plants.

STUDY, RESTORE AND PROMOTE The Garden is reaching beyond our home in Papago Park to lead the Central Arizona Conservation Alliance—a partnership to study, restore and promote the metropolitan Phoenix desert mountain parks. We invite you to visit mymountainparks.org for more information about the Alliance.

HOORAY FOR HORTICULTURE! If you are interested in attending a special program to learn more about the Garden’s Horticulture Center project and The Saguaro Initiative, please contact Darcy McGill at 480 481.8160 or dmcgill@dbg.org

We will ensure that the Garden is always a compelling attraction that brings to life the many wonders of the desert. The Desert Botanical Garden sits on 140 acres and has more than 50,000 plants in its collection. The Garden has five thematic trails that exhibit cactus and succulent species from around the world. Interpretive exhibits along the trails highlight desert wildflowers, conservation, desert plant adaptation and ethnobotany.

Since 1939, the Desert Botanical Garden has been home to one of the finest and most diverse collections of succulent plants, including rare, threatened and endangered species from around the Southwest and the world.
