Morongo Welcomes Legendary Soul Singer Peabo Bryson

RESORT & SPA – Two-time Grammy Award-winning singer Peabo Bryson will bring his timeless R&B and soul hits to the Morongo Grand Ballroom for an exclusive Southern California performance on Saturday, May 6.

Bryson’s musical career began in the 1960s when he performed with local bands in his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina. His 1977 debut album, “Reaching for the Sky,” included the hit single “Feel the Fire,” which earned him his first Grammy nomination.
In 1991, Bryson earned worldwide recognition from his collaboration with popstar Celine Dion on the title song for Disney’s animated classic, “Beauty and the Beast,” which earned him his first Grammy Award. Bryson added another iconic duet a year later with the Grammy Award-winning “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle for the Disney film “Aladdin.”
“With 20 studio albums, dozens of hit songs, eight Grammy nominations, two Oscar-winning songs, and two Grammys Awards, Peabo Bryson is a legendary performer, and we are excited to host him for an exclusive Southern California performance,” said Simon Farmer, Morongo’s Executive Director of Marketing.
Over the years, Bryson hit songs including “Feel the Fire,” “Reaching for the Sky,” “I’m So into You,” “Let the Feeling Flow,” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms virtual band’s 75-minute set. Highlights of the outing included the aforementioned Beck joining Damon for an energy filled “The Valley of the Pagans,” a killer run through the winning title track (“Thunder Island”) from the latest Gorillaz album with guest Thundercat, the powerful and timely “Kids with Guns” and shimmering “New Gold” (the latter featuring Brown). Gorillaz’ best-known material capped the set, with De La Soul joining the fun for a spirited take on “Feel Good Inc.” and Del the Funky Homosapien sharing the stage for “Clint Eastwood.” RK

New discoveries are often found within the undercard acts performing in the early afternoon. GP Horsegirl – This female indie rock trio from Chicago took awhile to gain momentum in the Sonora Tent, but definitely impressed with an intense, feedback-laden “Option 8” as well as some angular guitar work on “Anti-Glory.” GP Bratty — Culiacán, Sinaloa native Jenny Juárez, 22, brought her bedroom popmeets-garage rock project to Sonora.
