COD Gets New Fire Engines
College of the Desert receives two fire engines from Riverside Fire Department By Desert Star Staff PALM DESERT, CA.—College of the Desert (COD) received two fire engines from Riverside County Fire Department on January 9, 2014. The units include one 1990 and one 1991 Ford Kovatch fire engine. These two units were scheduled to be surplused out of the Riverside County Fire Department fleet after 23 years of service. “These two fire engines have served Riverside County citizens
well outside of their normal lifespan; they are completely serviceable and can now provide valuable training for College of the Desert and its fire academy cadets,” said CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Chief, John R. Hawkins. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors authorized and approved the donation of the two fire engines to College of the Desert Public Safety Program on November 19, 2013. “We have
a great relationship with College of the Desert’s Public-Safety Academy, including the Firefighter Academy, which has become a asset in the Coachella Valley,” said Supervisor John J. Benoit. “I am pleased and proud to work with them on this donation of fire engines to further the training opportunities for students in this wonderful program.” College of the Desert is currently running its first fire academy at Roy Wilson Training Center
Palm Springs, Calif. — Desert Publications announced the appointment of Julie Sinclair as editorial director, effective immediately. Sinclair will serve as editor-in-chief of Palm Springs Life magazine while overseeing the content, design, and budgeting of all existing regional and custom titles. She will also develop new print and digital publications. Sinclair replaces Steven Biller. “Julie comes to us as
a seasoned editor-in-chief and executive editor of both national and regional consumer magazines,” Desert Publications’ Associate Publisher Frank Jones says. “A proven brand manager, she knows how to successfully lead the vision, voice, creative execution, and content strategy of publications and websites. We’re thrilled to have her on board.” In her more than 20 years in the magazine industry, Sinclair
spent the bulk of her career at national consumer lifestyle titles based in New York City. She has held a variety of positions in consumer publications, including special projects’ editor at This Old House magazine, managing editor at Woman’s Day Special Interest Publications, and executive editor at Hearst Specials, where she managed such titles

in Thousand Palms, CA. “The donated fire engines are a welcomed surprise and couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Scott Ventura, who is the fire academy coordinator. “The two donated units will provide a vital role in the fire academy program.” The two Kovatch fire engines will replace older units that were previously donated to the college in 2009. The COD Basic Firefighter Academy program provides
students with fundamental knowledge, entry level manipulative skills and knowledge of fire service operations that are required by most fire departments. Upon completion of the fire academy, students will be eligible to receive their State of California Firefighter 1 certificate. The donation of the two units will help benefit the training opportunities at College of the Desert and the residents in the Coachella Valley.

Special guest star is the incredible Phyl Craig, who has starred in several productions on “La Cage A u x Follies” and “An Evening At La Cage.” Phyl’s Judy Garland is the best in the business, and his Shania Twain is simply amazing. Unlike most “drag shows,” not only is there live singing by the incredible Russell, but many of the songs in the show are parodies that are hysterical! The Jewel Box Revue opens Tuesday, February 18th and will play every night in the Cascade Lounge of the Spa Casino at 7pm except Mondays. On Sunday, there is a matinee, a 3pm and an evening show at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Spa Casino in Palm Springs.
Vivian Ross-Scott (Donna Summer) is a native of Washington, D.C., and began her studies at the age of seven at the Art Linkletter School of Dance. She continued her education in dance and vocal music through her teens as she began a more formal source of training at Joan and Hayward Dance Academy. In addition, she attended the highly-acclaimed Duke Ellington School of The Performing Arts. After attending Virginia Commonwealth University on a dance scholarship, it was time to begin her journey to her destiny. Ross-Scott has performed throughout Europe and Asia as well as the United States. She has shared the stage with many artists, including Nancy Wilson, Patti La Belle, Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill and Frankie Beverly and Maze. After departing from her recording group, she began to perform as a solo artist. Roz Thomas (Diana Ross) says that at first, it was Diana’s commanding sound that captured her ear; then there were the lyrics of those classic songs. Finally, the “look.” That glamorous shroud struck her and completed the package. Thomas knew not only what her dream was, but most importantly who to pattern it from. Tickets for the show are $35 or $40 and can be purchased by calling the Indian Wells Theater box office at (760) 341-6909. Parking is included in the ticket price. The Indian Wells Theater at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus is located at 37-500 Cook St. For more information about upcoming concerts and other events, visit the Indian Wells Theater website at www.IWTheater. com. www.desertstarweekly.com
Post Office Fiascos Continue
By Kevin Powell Testimony by the Postmaster General from 2013 showed the Post Office was losing more than $25 million a day. He blamed their issues on the lack of modern technology and restrictive laws that Congress places on it. He was very much on point. We h a v e p re v i o u s l y discussed the ridiculous rules surrounding how the Post Office has to fund their retirement and health expenses. No company in the world could operate under such a requirement, and the Post Office is the only US agency that has to fund their health plan in the manner that Congress demands. There have been bills mired in Congress for years and yet no decisive action has been passed

that can right the ship. This is the same Congress that approved their first budget in more than four years. Why should we trust them suddenly start making fiscally sound decisions in any area of government spending? At a time when jobs are woefully lacking, there are approximately eight million private-sector jobs that depend on the Post Office. Many of those workers look increasingly more at risk with every passing day. The Post Office awarded an enormous contract to none other than Federal Express in 2013 to haul the mail across the country. Isn’t Fed Ex one of the Post Office’s competitors? As if losing more than $100 billion over the past decade wasn’t enough, it looks as if the Post Office is set on another flawed strategy. It is going to sell 56 postal buildings across the country. Expected income to the Post Office is anticipated to be about $19 billion. One real estate company was selected to handle the sale of these properties. They are expected to receive between
$950 million and $1.1 billion in commissions. Oh, by the way, the Chairman of this company is the husband of one of our Congressional leaders! This man is very affluent and has owned or help start many prosperous businesses known around the world today. However,
this isn’t the first time one of his companies has benefited from a large government contract. The Post Office is an integral part of everyday life and business in the US. Even so, it appears that no one in Congress cares enough to try to find a long-term solution. We need to insist on
better “leadership” or expect additional postage (and tax) hikes on a much more frequent basis. Kevin Powel has been a financial advisor for the past 28 years and can be reached at kpplanner1@aol.com.
Border Patrol Halts Drug Smuggling
By Desert Star Staff NILAND, Calif. – Today, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station arrest two suspected narcotics smugglers and seized more than 13 pounds of methamphetamine concealed inside a compartment within the vehicle. The incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m., when Border Patrol agents encountered a 27-year-old man driving a green 1995 Honda Accord, along with a 47-year-old male passenger as they approached the Highway 111 checkpoints located near Niland, Calif. A Border Patrol Canine Detection team alerted to the vehicle, and the driver was
referred to secondary for further inspection. During the inspection, agents discovered multiple individually wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden inside a natural void behind the radio underneath the dashboard of the vehicle. The methamphetamine had a combined weight of 13.99 pounds with an estimated street value of more than $167,000. The driver, a United States citizen, and the passenger, a Lawful Permanent Resident from Mexico was taken into custody. The men, vehicle, and methamphetamine were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
Border Patrol Bust’s Two Gang Members
By Desert Star Staff CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro station apprehended two dangerous gang members over the weekend during separate incidents. Both men were attempting to make an illegal entry into the United States at the time of their arrests. The first incident occurred on Saturday, approximately nine miles west of the downtown Calexico Port of Entry. Border Patrol agents observed the man, later identified as Jeronimo Duque Moreno, a 41-yearold Mexican national as he entered the United States
illegally from Mexico. Agents arrested Moreno without incident. Moreno was transported to the El Centro Border Patrol station, where it was revealed he was an aggravated felon previously removed from the United States, and an active member of the “18th Street” criminal street gang out of Los Angeles, Calif. Moreno has convictions for possession for sale of narcotics and for carrying a dagger, receiving combined prison sentences of more than three years. Moreno is in Border Patrol custody and will be processed for re-entry of a removed alien. February 12, 2014
The second incident occurred on Sunday, at approximately 11:30 a.m., when Border Patrol agents from the El Centro station apprehended a group of seven undocumented aliens near Highway 98 and Mount Signal Road. Record checks revealed that one of the male subjects, Israel Meza-Zepeda, a 39-year-old Mexican national, had been previously ordered removed by an Immigration Judge on Dec. 17, 2013. It was also revealed that Meza is an active “Sureno” gang member with an outstanding warrant for homicide out of Whittier, Calif. Meza has a previous conviction
for attempted murder and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. That prison sentence was extended another six years after Meza committed assault with a deadly weapon while in prison. Meza is in Border Patrol custody and will be further processed for his illegal entry into the United States. After prosecution for immigration charges, Meza will then be turned over to the proper law enforcement agency for his outstanding warrant. Please report any suspicious activity to the Border Community Threat Hotline at 1-800-901-2003.

Sand and Sea – Modernism in Palm Springs By Desert Star Staff Palm Springs, CA. – The Architecture and Design Council (ADC) of the Palm Springs Art Museum will present its 15th annual symposium on Saturday, February 22 at the Annenberg Theater. This year’s title, “Sand to Sea: Modernism in Palm Springs and Sarasota,” explores modernist architecture in Palm Springs, CA and Sarasota, FL and the modernism movement as it swept across the United States and became firmly rooted on both coasts. “This symposium will give attendees an overview of two resort communities and their approach to modernism,” commented Sidney Williams, event organizer and curator of architecture and design at the Palm Springs Art Museum. “Both cities face issues related to preservation, but unlike the Sarasota School, Palm Springs does not have the distinction of a named school despite its great concentration of
modern architecture. We hope to discern an appropriate moniker,” Williams added. The annual ADC symposium, one of the signature events that helped establish Palm Springs Modernism Week in 2006, has become an enormously popular staple of Modernism Week featuring notable national and international architects, designers, and authors. The “Sand to Sea” symposium will be no exception with presentations by stellar speakers, including: Theo Prudon, PhD, FAIA, president of DOCOMOMO U.S Allan Hess, architectural historian, journalist, and author Morris Hylton, assistant professor, University of Florida Tickets are $200 per person includes symposium, lunch, architecture tour and reception. Tickets for symposium and lunch only are $50 per person. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Modernism Week web site at www.modernismweek.com.

Determining Your Real Age & Health By Art Kunkin (Mr. Life Extension) During this month of February 2014 you can obtain from me at no cost a pdf computer file of the very valuable anti-aging book titled “Life Extension Express.” Just email me at my address given below, write “Free Book” in the subject line and specify the title. The book is written by David Kekich of the Maximum Life Foundation. Here are some of the selftests David Kekich suggests you do. Skin Elasticity: Lay your hand down on a desk or table, palm down. Pinch the skin at the back of your hand for five seconds. Let go and time how long it takes your skin to go back to its smooth appearance. If you’re very young, it should snap back immediately. An average 45-year-olds’ skin will take 3–5 seconds. At age 60, it takes about 10–15 seconds on average. By the time you are 70, it usually takes 35–60 seconds to crawl back. So if your chronological age is 60 but it only takes 3 to 5 seconds to snap back, this test indicates your actual biological age may be around 45. Reaction time: Ask someone to hold an eighteeninch ruler or yardstick vertically from the one-inch line. Place your thumb and forefinger about
three inches apart at the eighteen inch line. Then ask your partner to let go without warning you. Then catch the ruler as fast as you can between your thumb and forefinger. Mark down the number on the ruler where you catch it. Do this three times, and average your score. A 20-yearold will average about twelve inches. That generally decreases progressively to about five inches by the time you are 65 or about 1 ¾ inches per decade. So, if your score is seven and one-half inches, you test out at about age 50 for reaction time. The author points out that games like pingpong, tennis and foosball can better your scores. Static balance: Take off your shoes and stand on a level uncarpeted surface with your feet together. Close your eyes and raise your right foot about six inches off the ground if you are right-handed, or on your left foot if you are left-handed. See how many seconds you can stand that way without opening your eyes or moving your supporting foot. Most 20-year-olds can do it easily for 30 seconds or more. By age 65, most people can only stand for 3–5 seconds. You lose about six seconds a decade, so if you score 12–14 seconds, you test at about 50 years of age. Yoga, balance board training and
Rock Art of Southern California on Sunday, Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pilot Travel Center, 6605 N. Indian Canyon Dr. $50 for JTNPA/PINE members, $60 for nonmembers. For more information call, 760-3675535 or go to joshuatree.org. David Kekish, author of Life Extension Express exercise can improve your scores. Vital lung capacity: Take three deep breaths and hold the fourth without forcing it. Healthy 20-year-olds can hold it for two minutes easily. We lose about 15% or 18 seconds per decade, so a 60-year-old will do well to hold it for 45 seconds. If you can hold your breath for 65 seconds, you test at about the 50-yearold level. You can improve with exercise and deep breathing techniques. Memory/Cognition: Ask a friend to write down three random seven-digit numbers without showing them to you. Ask him or her to say the first string of seven numbers twice. Now repeat the string backward. Do the same for the other two numbers, and average the results. A 30-year-old should score 100%. Most of the 50-year-olds will miss one digit out of seven. Most of the 60-yearolds will miss two, and 70-yearolds will miss three. See the brain exercise section in chapter six of the book, “Life Extension Express” to boost your memory skills. So how did you test? Is your
biological age younger than your chronological age? Great! When someone asks your age, why not tell them your biological age instead of chronological age? From now on, I’m tempted to answer this question by saying, “I was born in 1928 but I’m actually about 50 years old, not 85.” Art Kunkin is the 85-year young journalist who founded the alternative weekly newspaper, The Los Angeles Free Press, in 1964 and later became president of the Philosophical Research Society. ‘Wadjda’—A Saudi Girl With a Dream
By Theda Kleinhans Reichman “Wadjda,” from Sony Pictures Classics, tells the story of a 10-year-old girl named Wadjda, who is determined to have a bicycle of her own. That sounds like an easy dream to fulfill, but not for this feisty young Saudi-Arabian youngster living in a country dominated by men who practice and enforce strict Muslim rules. Even her loving and doting mother is against the plan because in their society riding a bicycle could damage a young girl’s virtue. (Dr. Oz, tell them it isn’t so!) “Wadjda” is the initial feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia. Even more amazing is the fact that it was written and directed by Haifaa Al Mansour, Saudi Arabia’s first female filmmaker. “Wadjda” also marks Saudi Arabia’s original submission for Oscar’s consideration in the Foreign Language Category. The film didn’t get a 2014 Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film, but being entered in the 2014 race is still a major achievement for this Middle Eastern nation. Waad Mohammed’s stars as Wadjda and popular Saudi television personality Reem Abdullah, in her first feature film role, plays Wadjda’s sympathetic but cautious mother. “Wadjda,” a simple tale
about a determined child who will stop at nothing to pursue her dream of owning a bicycle, takes Western viewers behind closed doors, revealing what life is like when the veil is removed. There is obvious love between Wadjda’s parents, but we soon sense a tension in their relationship caused by the fact their only child is a daughter, not a son. We also see that there are definite rules young girls, and women must adhere to: never go out without a head scarf, at no time be alone with a man who is not your husband and never ride a bicycle lest you damage your virginity. While this sounds rather grim, there are comedic moments as well. It is obvious that Wadjda’s father loves her, and she has also captured the playful heart of the young neighbor boy who sometimes lets her ride his bicycle when no one is looking. However, Wadja wants a bike of her own, so she can do race her friend—and win. The clever Wadjda secretly forges a plan to make money for her coveted bike. She also tells the kindly owner of the bicycle shop that he must not sell “her” bike until she can pay for it herself. Will he comply? One way she seeks to earn the needed cash is by
winning a contest sponsored by her all-girls school. To win she must be able to quote and sing key verses from the Koran and answer historical questions about their holy book. This process is often humorous and reveals even further the determined character of this
endearing, beautiful ten-yearold who will capture your heart. Special features on the Combo Pack include a commentary with Writer/Director Haifaa Al Mansour, a making-of featurette and a director’s Q & A with Al Mansour.
“Wadja,” an independent Spirit and BAFTA Award Nominee, arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack February 11. The Film has a running time of 98 minutes and is rated PG for thematic elements, brief mild language and smoking. It is Arabic with English subtitles.

By USPS Everyone loves to discover a handwritten card or note between a thick stack of mail. Regardless of how many electronic words we get bombarded with each day, the intimate touch of a message written by hand remains a special gesture that never goes out of style. From choosing a card or stationery that reflects a personal style to accenting the letter with
the right seal or stamp, every detail matters to underscore a thoughtful message. Stamps are often one of the first details noted by a letter recipient, so choosing a stamp such as the love-letter themed sealed with Love Forever stamp from usps. com/stamps or your local post office is perfect for the occasion. Not sure what sentiment to write for the occasion? Here are a few ideas: Notes of appreciation:
find helpful is often a welcome message to show someone you care. Condolence cards: If a friend is going through a difficult time, share special memories you have of the person who passed away and why you will miss having that person in your life. End by offering to call or visit soon. These gestures, plus the card itself, will remind the recipient they aren’t alone in their grief. Remember, cards and notes are about letting another person know how much their friendship, gifts or presence means to you. Follow a simple formula, add a few personal touches, and you will soon be writing cards with ease.
Whether the recipient gave you a gift, hosted you for dinner or did a unique favor, keep the message brief and sincere. Don’t ever hesitate to send a note of appreciation just to let someone know how truly special they are. Unexpected notes are always wonderful to receive. Birthday cards: Celebrate one’s personal accomplishments in the past year and any special events planned in the next year

Elvis Presley’s “House of Tomorrow”
Celebrate Valentines Day at The Palm Springs Modernism Icon By Desert Star Staff Start off this Valentine’s Day weekend with a Friday, February 14th Valentine’s Day tour of the home where Elvis and Priscilla lived and honeymooned on May 1, 1967. People Magazine proclaimed their courtship and marriage as “one of the ten greatest romances of the 20th century.” Recently, another marriage proposal was accepted at this great estate. There is something exceptional about this romantic setting and it’s-ambiance. Bring a ‘special someone’ and hear the great history of Palm Springs with our tour guides. Walk in the place where Elvis made history and the news of daughter, Lisa Marie, being born nine months later to the day. Valentine treats, and chocolates will be available. Two tours are scheduled at 1pm and 3:30pm: A very special Priscilla Presley Tribute Artist, Darling Presley, will present the 1pm tour and Anthony Alvarez, former KMIR TV personality, known as the “Aloha King Elvis” for the 3:30pm tour. Our tours are 5-stars on Trip Advisor. The Wall Street Journal labeled us as “Greetings from Elvis’s Palm Springs home.” Time Magazine, Travel Channel, AAA Westways, Fodor’s Travel
Guide, have all heralded the property. The Desert Sun states, “The number-one spot to have your picture taken.” The estate is located at 1350 Ladera Circle in Vista Las Palmas is the major showcase of the city. Four concentric circles, three stories, 5500 sq. feet put on a pedestal of rocks, is something to see! There are three tours a day for Modernism Week, beginning February 15th and culminating on the 23rd. Tour times are 10:30am, 1pm and 3:30pm. Tickets are $30 per person. The London doubleDecker bus drives up to the location several times each day to witness it’s splendor. The home features the first ‘round’ home construction in Palm Springs... there are no square rooms in it. The home pre-dates the Bob Hope House and the Elrod House, where the James Bond movie “Diamonds Are Forever” was filmed. Take full advantage on Wednesday February 19th and Saturday February 22nd to hear popular desert celebrity author, Eric Meeks, signing his books and lecturing at the estate. This is Palm Springs Modernism at its best. Call (760) 3221192 for reservations or www. elvishoneymoon.com

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 714-573-1965 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet Web site www.priorityposting.com, using the file number assigned to this case __________. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. Aztecs Take First in DVL; Second Place is Up For Grabs By Dan Marinelli
Xavier Prep High School Saints 61 Indio High School Rajahs 49
La Quinta High School Palm Desert High School Blackhawks 77 Cathedral Aztecs 80 Coachella Valley City High School Lions 57 High School Arabs 44
PALM DESERT – Three weeks ago, the Saints (6-5 in DVL, 11-11 Overall) were in the bottom half of the DVL standings – until a loss against Palm Springs High School sparked a four-game winning streak with their most-recent victory coming against the Rajahs (6-4 in DVL, 16-8 Overall) last Thursday. Despite winning five of their last six games, the Rajahs could not overcome a three-point, the third quarter deficit, that eventually – due to an uninspired fourth quarter offensive performance – ballooned into a 12-point loss. In spite of Xavier Prep holding Senior Night, Saints junior guard Joseph Dreisbach led both teams in scoring with 21 points. Senior guard Gabriel Dreisbach, however, scored 10 fourth quarter points and finished with a total of 13 for the Saints. Rajahs senior guard Isaiah Thomas ended the game with 18 points. By defeating the Rajahs, Xavier Prep maintained fourth place in league and have a slight chance to steal second place from the La Quinta High School Blackhawks. The Saints only need Indio to lose one of their last two, and the Blackhawks to lose their next, and final game against the undefeated league-leaders – the Palm Desert High School Aztecs. On Feb. 11, the Rajahs welcomed the struggling Cathedral City High School Lions. The Saints traveled to Thermal to take on the lowly Coachella Valley High School Arabs on Feb. 11. On Feb. 13, the Rajahs will have Senior night at Indio High School against the Coachella Valley High School Arabs
CATHEDRAL CITY – Despite staying within reach of the Blackhawks (7-5 in DVL, 13-12 Overall) for most of the game at Cathedral City High School; a 10-point fourth quarter shut the door on a desperate Lions team that has now lost three straight games. Cathedral City’s defense had suspect all season, and last Thursday’s game was no exception. Although they were behind 51-41 entering the final quarter, Cathedral City did not get blown out in a single quarter until La Quinta scored 26 points in the fourth quarter. In addition to their lackluster finish, the Lions allowed three Blackhawks to score in double figures. Junior Kameron Dashner scored an impressive, season-high, 28 points for the Blackhawks – significantly higher than his season average of 11.7 points per game. Blackhawks Captain and senior forward Jojo Wiggins scored 17 points and grabbed nine boards; teammate Charles Hays added 11 points and an aggressive 13 rebounds. With just one-game and half-game leads over Indio and Xavier Prep, respectively, for the Blackhawks to hang on to second place, their last game against the DVL-leading, and rival, Palm Desert High School Aztecs is, essentially, a must-win. On Feb. 11, Cathedral City traveled to Indio high School to face the Rajahs. Cathedral City ends their season against the Indians at Palm Springs High School on Feb. 13. The Blackhawks attempt to finish their season in second place against the Aztecs, Feb. 13, on Senior Night at La Quinta High School. VIRGO

THERMAL –Coach Don Brady’s Aztecs (11-0 in DVL, 17-5 Overall) had plenty to celebrate after demolishing the Arabs last Tuesday – mainly – earning their first DVL title since the ’05 – ’06 season. Since losing their final non-league game to the Claremont High School Wolfpack in early January, the Aztecs have rifled off nine straight victories and have unseated the five-time defending DVL champion Palm Springs High School Indians. Additionally, Palm Desert’s current streak is their longest string of wins since they won the DVL title, eight years ago. Tough, tenacious, defense won the DVL championship for the Aztecs. In league-play, Aztecs opponents failed to score over 50 points in nine of their 11 games with the league champs. Even more impressive, Palm Desert defeated their DVL counterparts by an average of 17.5 a game. The Arabs have yet to win a league game and are out of playoff contention until next year. The Aztecs attempt at achieving one last goal – staying undefeated league – resumed Feb. 11, at home, against the former DVL champion Indians. On Feb. 13, the Aztecs play an important game for the rest of the DVL against the second-place Blackhawks at La Quinta High School.
