Desert Ensemble Theatre Presents “Salty”

By Desert Star Staff Palm Springs—Desert Ensemble Theatre continues its season at the Palm Springs Cultural Center in February with the California premiere of Salty, a play by AJ Clauss. A recent hit at Seattle’s ReAct Theatre, Salty was inspired by the true story of two male African penguins at a Dutch zoo, who made international headlines in 2019 when they stole an egg from a heterosexual couple. In Clauss’s comedy, penguins Silver and Bowie decide to raise an egg together, challenge the gender binary, and potentially save their breed from extinction... and maybe even teach us a thing or two about humanity.

By Suzanne Potter/PNS Gas stoves in home kitchens are leaking a lot more methane gas than previously known, which has implications for the fight against climate change, according to a new study from Stanford University. Researchers found in the United States, each year, gas stoves emit 2.6 million tons of methane, which is the same amount of greenhouse gas as 500,000 cars. Eric Lebel, a senior scientist

at PSE Energy in Oakland and co-author of the study, said the 53 gas ranges they measured leaked about three-quarters of their emissions while turned off. “Over about 20 years, the total climate impact of the same weight of methane gas is 86 times more than the same weight of carbon dioxide,” Lebel reported. “Methane leaks are significant, even small leaks.” Multiple cities in California, including Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco, have

banned gas ranges in new construction in future years. Critics countered electric ovens could be more expensive. Lebel argued as California’s electric grid is powered more and more by renewable sources, electric appliances are much “greener” than those burning natural gas. “If you burn gas, you’re going to be emitting carbon dioxide, and then, the methane just added on top of that, to the climate impact,” Lebel

asserted. “But if you do have an electric stove, then it is possible to have a cleaner source of energy for the stove.” The study found most of the emissions are below the odor threshold, so families wouldn’t necessarily notice the gas leak because they cannot smell it. This teaches kids the game of hockey. By February, the goal is to reach 4,000 local children to educate them with hockey. HOROSCOPES ARIES

The key thoughts for Aries this year, in order to feel victorious amidst world transformations are courage, strength, right choice, truth and right leadership. Included in these are right relations (behaviors), group work, directed by spiritual values that allow everyone’s gifts to be recognized. Take seriously the Buddha’s words. He prepared the Way for his Brother, the Christ. Sift through everything from the past. Eliminate what is no longer needed. Keep treasures. Take long trips up mountains.

TAURUS A new artistic ability has emerged much to your shock and surprise, though you have longed for this since childhood. Make contact, a sort of networking on spiritual levels, with different and various groups of people this year. Tell the truth concerning the new era, its goals and purposes. There is a great need for resources and resourceful people. Call them forth quietly. Continue on your many paths. You have extraplanetary help. Pure foods, the Sun and the circadian rhythm alleviate all that hurts.

GEMINI Do you know what your future goals are? Sometimes neither Gemini nor Pisces realize them to bring them into form and matter. We (Geminis and Pisces) have goals but they are often hidden, in etheric forms, remaining in a visionary stage. This is a year of spiritual

FEBRUARY 2 – 8, 2022 ASTROLOGICAL FORECAST BY RISA D’ANGELES

principles brought into outer practice and form. You will find the Aquarian principles sustain your dreams, creating health and vitality. You may ask for no boundaries, thinking nothing is impossible. However, discipline is needed and this is the paradox.

CANCER Whenever you find yourself in a group, observe that you have become quite able at accomplishing multiple tasks with many people. When seeking help and support, along it comes attempting in surprising ways. It’s important to live life as a cooperative and supportive participant and collaborator. As routines disappear, imagination becomes the source of help and direction. Maintain daily disciplines for health and well-being. You need strength for the future.

LEO Work responsibilities multiply and expand. Your first work as a Leo is to cultivate your gifts. They are needed in our world now. At times you may feel overwhelmed, other times you’re glad for the recognition and reliability of work. Sometimes you are the leader. Leadership helps you focus on what gifts and skills you have developed. They will be needed now and later as the new era of Aquarius (your opposite sign) unfolds. This is the Leo/Aquarius partnership, yin/yang, shadow/light. Actually, you’re the yang. Be fun-filled for the festivities.

VIRGO It’s good to assess all the good acts of service you have done in your life and also for others. These are your deeply personal and creative achievements. Expand now beyond these boundaries of goodness unless you feel emotionally exhausted and out of balance. Then it’s time for rest. The focus for you is self-identity, study, journeys, goals and travel that sustain your spirit. Working with family is most important. You are their protector.

LIBRA You have shown discipline and structure these last years and they have helped create your sense of self-identity as responsible, caring, prosperous and successful. Childhood may have felt difficult, harsh and cold, with either abandonment or strictness you didn’t understand. However, childhood was a training ground for you as a server in the world. A training ground that has taken you into the fields of humanitarian service everywhere. New resources emerge from the shadows. Someone misses you. Reinvent your childhood.

SCORPIO What personal decisions have you made recently from listening to your instincts, intuition and that small inner voice? Do you find the information reliable and do you feel directed and protected? I often don’t refer to the intuition when writing. Because very few have evolved enough into

what is called intuition. We must be directed by the Soul and have built all seven levels of our mind to enter into the intuition. Another name for intuition is the Rain Cloud of Knowable Things. That door is opening slowly.

SAGITTARIUS Wishes are powerful. One day they finally manifest, usually when our wishes hav dissipated and we’re wishing for something else altogether. What have you wished for in your life? What wishes have come true and been fulfilled? What are you wishing for now? If our wishes are deep enough we can’t reverse their manifesting into form in our lives. Most of our wishes are good things. I wish for you Right Resources and Right Use of Money, Goodwill and Wisdom. Love, too, of course.

CAPRICORN In the next months there are two important things to consider. You are to apply more of yourself to creative pursuits, bringing beauty out of everything. You are also to organize your money and finances. If young ones are around teaching them about values and finance: how to save, how to give, how to choose things of value, how to care for themselves and having gratitude. All Capricorns are experiencing deep transformations, like inner earthquakes. You are the unicorn on the mountaintop.

months the need for a more stable home that sustains, comforts and protects. You seek a future that enables you to feel both security and freedom. Each day prepare for that future through visualization. Visualize how you want to live, where, with whom. Visualization is your deepest creative resource. What we deeply aspire to eventually appears in right timing. Soon you will seek a new direction and bring forth new endeavors. You’ve already begun. Have fun now.

PISCES Jupiter, Neptune and Pallas Athena (asteroid) are in Pisces. This makes Pisces very sensitive and aware of humanity and world needs. Sensitive to the abandoned, the unseen, the hungry, the homeless, the lost, the suffering, the children and the isolation many. Our world in transition sensitivity calls awakened ones to serve in greater and greater ways. Your mind seeks an alternative way of livingness, building a template of care for everyone....a monastery, a retreat, an Aquarian community. You also seek resources. Ask for them. This is a spiritual journey. A journey of White Magic. Risa D’Angeles is the founder and director of the Esoteric & Astrological Studies Research Institute: Risa’s Esoteric Astrology. An Election Tie and Another Has No Elections

By Kelly G. Richardson, Esq. CCAL Dear Mr. Richardson: We had an election where 3 people ran for 2 positions and the second and third place vote-getters tied. Without giving an explanation or detailed procedure they stated that they had to resolve it at a later meeting because candidate 3 was not in attendance. Briefly it said that candidate 2 later won as they took care of it. To me that is not an explanation and I asked but have not been given any other info. So how should it have been resolved. the tied candidates is willing to step aside, there might have to be a runoff election to break the tie. There are many ways a tie can be broken if the documents provide for it. Our firm typically places a coin toss in election rules we draft as a final not-soscientific way of breaking ties. There is another issue here, and that is how the tie was broken. It is possible that one of the candidates stepped aside, but if the board decided how to resolve the problem in a closed meeting the board violated the Open Meeting Act. Some boards erroneously call such decisions “personnel actions” and so fill vacancies in closed session. Directors are not “personnel.” So, if the candidate stepped aside, leaving the other to Dear D.S.: Fortunately, take the open board seat, this situation (a tie vote) is not then no board action would common, but HOAs should be involved and the board plan for this. other hand, if the candidate was improperly placed in the seat, the board risks putting the HOA into turmoil and an election challenge. There has been no communication from the board to the homeowners in this regard and so it just drags on. Many of the homeowners are intimidated by 2 of the existing board officers so it is difficult to rally them to force such matters. I appreciate any brief guidance you might be able to provide. their bylaws and hold timely elections. If the board fails or refuses to hold an election, present them with a petition from the members. Pursuant to Corporations Code Section 75110(c), if the HOA has not had an election and it is at least 60 days past the normal annual meeting date or 15 months since the last meeting, a judge can order the election to occur. However, a member petition may alert the board that they need to listen to their neighbors. A legal action to compel an election is a major expense and should be avoided if at

Cost of ‘desexed’ language revealed By Desert Star Staff Wider use of genderneutral language can deepen discrimination against women, healthcare experts warn Inclusive and ‘desexed’ language, which some significant western healthcare institutions have adopted as a nod to transgender people, may affect the wellbeing of women and children in a very negative way, an international team of experts is a warning. According to research conducted by scientists from Australia, the US, Europe and Asia, and due to be published this week, the general use of such terms as “birth persons” instead of “birthing women”

6

DesertSTAR

or “human milk feeding” instead of “breastfeeding” not only puts the motherinfant bond under risk and undermines breastfeeding but also may contribute to further discrimination against women. “Desexing the language of female reproduction has been done to be sensitive to individual needs and as beneficial, kind, and inclusive. Yet, this kindness has delivered unintended consequences that have serious implications for women and children,” the experts wrote in their paper, called ‘Effective communication about pregnancy, birth, lactation, breastfeeding and newborn care: the importance

of sexed language’ and seen by The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper. While the authors of the report, set to be published in Frontiers in Global Women’s Health, support the very idea of respect and inclusiveness, they warn of a “high cost” of “dehumanizing” women and, therefore, recommend using “desexed” terms on an individual basis only, “wherever possible.” A co-author of the research and ex-president of the Australian College of Midwives, Jenny Gamble, explained that gender-neutral language could lead to more profound discrimination against women. February 2, 2022

She underlined that as pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood are “fundamentally sexed issues, not gendered,” pregnant women, women who are giving birth and new mothers have “unique vulnerabilities” and deserve protection. “Confusing the idea of gender identity and the reality of sex risks adverse health consequences and deeper and more insidious discrimination against women,” Gamble said, as quoted by an Australian news outlet. Wide and sometimes thoughtless use of gender-neutral terms has already caused several

high-profile scandals. For example, in September last year, a prominent scientific magazine Lancet apologized for sexism after the expression “bodies with vaginas” appeared on its front page. In December, the UK’s Royal College of Midwives was forced to apologize for calling mothers “postnatal people” in its ‘safer sleep’ guidance. The organization admitted that not mentioning mothers was a “huge oversight,” especially considering the institution’s commitment “to ensure that women are never erased from the narrative around pregnancy & birth.” www.desertstarweekly.com

Firebirds Hockey name-new Arena ACRISURE

Mayor Linda Evans with NHL Hockey great Grant Fuhr with his Jersey. Photo by Pat Krause By Pat Krause The new Coachella Valley Arena announced its new naming rights partner for the Hockey Arena. Acrisure and Oak View Group reported a 10-year agreement for the naming rights for the new Arena. The new Acrisure Arena is projected to open for the 2022,2023-hockey season. The Arena is being built on time, even with many setbacks in getting supplies and other problems that occur

when building something of this magnitude. Again, Riverside County has been a big help. The first game will be played in December. Over 4000 season tickets have already been sold without advance advertising. Unfortunately, only a few suites are available after most have already been sold. This will be the first major league sports team to call the Coachella Valley home. The Acrisure Arena and its new name will be emblazoned

on the front of the Arena. There will be 11,500 seats for concerts and other events, the hottest music festivals with top-tier amenities. They have big plans for the Desert, including 150 major world-class events, the most prominent artists, acts and concerts. This will bring millions into the Valley. Staff and workers will be living here primarily full-time. An adjoining facility will serve as a year-round training

center for the AHL team and local hockey teams. Patrick Warburton, who hosts the Warburton golf tournament that has raised millions of dollars for the Jude foundation, spoke in support of this substantial forthcoming Arena. Remarks were made by IVG Group’s Tim Leiweke and Dan Griffis, Acrisure’s Greg Williams and Bill Meara, President. Acrisure specializes in Intelligence-driven financial

services, insurance, asset management, real estate and cyber services. They have over 150 clients in CA. The OVG, Oak View Group, uses no local tax monies for this Arena and team. OVG and Acrisure \have the same goals and visions for the Valley. They have big plans for those that live, work, and play in the Coachella Valley. The Arena sits on land owned by the Berger Foundation, who are big supporters of this venture.

Holocaust Day

By Pat Krause The Mensch International Foundation held its annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration at the Palm Desert Civic Park Amphitheater on January 27th. The event emcee was Steve Geiger, Founder/Director of the Mensch Foundation. There were many speakers as several hundred people lined the hillside to listen. The event started with a story by Steve Geiger until the actual program began. Geiger introduced Ezra Yaron, cantor and soloist who sang the Star-Spangled Banner and a Jewish song as guests sang along with him. Palm Desert Mayor Jan Harnik, Rancho Mirage Mayor Ted Weill and Palm Spring Mayor Lisa Middleton. Each expressed their thanks from their city and city council for attending. Jan Harnik spoke about how education and being remembered by people and our youth were important. Education would be vital in letting this atrocity and evil never happen again. Speaker Lisa Middleton told a story that her friend told her years ago. The report said that while evil was rampant in the concentration camp, there was one bright spot of kindness when given an Orange in the Camp. One act of kindness shows how we should also show Kindness and Love. Ted Weill said Rancho Mirage was proud to host www.desertstarweekly.com

this Holocaust Remembrance Day. Other speakers also told stories and said Education and Remembering were so important in our lives today. Anti-Jewish people all over the world are still out there. Of the 1.3 million people sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, 1.1 million were killed. On January 27th, 1945, the Russian Red Army liberated the Camp. The Nazis killed over 6 million Jews and millions of others. The cry is NEVER FORGET. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (916)939-0772 or visit this internet website http://search.nationwideposting.com/propertySearchTerms.aspx, using the file number assigned to this case CA2100287068 Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Website. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. NOTICE TO TENANT: You may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction if conducted after January 1, 2021, pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last and highest

You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 833-561-0243 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet Web site WWW.SALES.BDFGROUP.COM for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case 00000008414559.
