Hunting the Hunter

Minnesota Dentist who killed beloved African Lion Cecil goes underground & closes clinic. By Desert Star Staff Zimbabwean officials have named a Minnesota dentist as the hunter who killed the country’s beloved lion, Cecil, earlier this month, prompting a storm of social media insults, death threats and even doxing of Dr. Walter Palmer. P a l m e r ’s n a m e w a s revealed Tuesday by the British newspaper the Telegraph,
citing sources in Zimbabwe investigating the death of the lion. According to the officials, Cecil was killed on July 1, just outside of the Hwange National Park in western Zimbabwe. His body was found skinned and beheaded on a property bordering the park, thanks to the GPS tag implanted by the scientists studying the lions. “As far as I understand,
Walter believes that he might have shot that lion,” a spokesman for Dr. Palmer told the Telegraph. “What he’ll tell you is that he had the proper legal permits and he had hired several professional guides, so he’s not denying that he may be the person who shot this lion. He is a big-game hunter; he hunts the world over.” Within minutes of the Telegraph’s revelation, Palmer

Social media users have called him a “scumbag” and a “disgrace to humankind, and a detriment to our species as a whole.” The address, website and phone number of his practice were plastered everywhere, with the practice’s website going down shortly thereafter. According to the page, Dr. Palmer is a married father
15 Annual So the World May Hear Awards Gala. Story and Photos by Pat Krause The Starkey Hearing Foundation held its annual So The World May Hear Gala at the River Centre in St. Paul, Minnesota. CEO and Founder Bill Austin and Tani Austin hosted this weekend event. The party begins on Sat. night with a private party and Golf on Sunday morning at the Meadows Golf Course. This is a star-studded event with major entertainers, celebrities and sports personalities walking the Red Carpet before the evenings dinner and entertainment began. Locals, Pat and Joe Manhart, are
parents to Tani Austin and also go on missions to deliver free hearing aids. Most of the entertainers and sports figures all spoke about why they were there to support this very worthy cause. They praise Bill and Tani Austin and the Starkey Foundation for the work; they do worldwide in helping people hear again with free hearing aids. Their missions are mostly in third-world countries where hearing aids are not even heard of or at least not affordable. Many of the celebrities have gone on these missions and know first-
hand the joy of seeing a child or adult hear for the first time. The most anticipated star was Katy Perry, who was the main entertainment at the gala. Katy arrived late but did walk the Red Carpet for TV and photographers. She did not want to give interviews as she arrived late for the dinner. Speaker President George W. Bush did not walk the Red Carpet, Carpet and I heard pres. Bill Clinton was in attendance also. Other entertainers were Continues on Page 2

Entertainers, Gene Simmons, lead singer of KISS with his wife Shannon Tweed Simmons and Frankie Valli from the Four Seasons group were in attendance. Actors Kevin Sorbo, Julie Ormond, Frankie Muniz, Verne Troyer-Mini Me, and Cheech Marin to name just a few, walked the Red Carpet. Other celebrities were the numerous sports figures that included, basketball, football, base-ball and boxing. Boxing legends were Levander Holyfield and Roberto Duran. Sports stars were dressed to the nines and brought their wives, friends or even their mothers to this large gala. Some of the big names in sports included Jim McMann, Paul Molitor, Karl-Anthony Towns, Tyus Jones, Chuck Foreman, Robert Smith and Ron Harper, way too many to list them all. Lou Ferrigno, Incredible Hulk, said he has been hard of hearing since birth and is a big supporter of the Starkey Foundation. The Foundation hopes to raise more than last year, over 8 million dollars. The target this year was over 9 million to continue this wonderful work.

In Greece: Milos more than an island of love
Milos, Greece the Aegean island remembered for being “ the route of the pirates”. Photo by Anthony Grant By Pamela Price If you’ve admired the statuesque Venus De Milo the Greek island of Milos will sound familiar. Adamas, the main port dots the landscape like a mythological string of jewels. The challenge is carving a few days from your itinerary to make the journey, which is my case was by ferryboat with a return by Aegean Airlines since the water was too choppy for the boat option. It was a booklet that lured me to this butterfly-shaped Island, “Best of Milos in Responsible
Tourism 2-15”. (www.mymilos.gr) The people who know it best authored this 114- page compact guide” therefore, absenting overused words such as ‘awesome’ and ‘amazing’ from personal reflections. The information is presented in an admirable style, focused on the theme, “the people of Milos talk about Milos.” Candid narratives, such as “A Nostalgic July 31, 2015
Walk” by George Mallis a Milos high school teacher and “Multicolored colored citizens of an subaquatic sulfur kingdom by John Chavakis, a diving instructor describes unexpected discoveries in the open seas while retrieving tangled fishingnets. His undersea world reaction to this unforeseen drama may lure you to this underwater world after you study his remarkable photographs. Anthony Grant recently visited Milos and recommended the understated three-star rated Best Western Hotel Del Mar in the seaside village of Pollonia. “The flashy resorts in abundance in Mykonos and Santorini are largely absent in down-to-earth Milos, but this doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice creature comforts. The Del Mar has 15 guestrooms and apartments in the breezy Santorini style, with interior arches enhanced by a smooth stone finish. What is as refreshing is the décor such as their unusual stone- built beds. The rates seasonal; I paid $65 nightly in early June before the summer tourist season surge. Rates at hotels in Milos are generally lower compared to its more famous Cycladic sisters. Check http://www.delmar.gr
before you depart, Milos explore pirate outposts along the Aegean Coastline. The moonscape of Milos at Sarakiniko strikes visitors as a live painting where the sun’s reflection on the whitewashed rocks captures a stunning play of light. Exploring pirate caves with kayaks, diving from high cliffs and sunbathing on smooth, as silk rock formation is part of getting personal with Milos. The idiosyncratic events on Milos are legendary, such as the Big Bonfire on August 31st, a local celebration honoring how the islanders cleverly avoided the dreaded Turkish tax collectors during the Ottoman Empire era. Investigate other unexpected discoveries on Milos from their “Chef for a Day” experiences with award-winning chef Vasilis Papikinos to a continental breakfast at Aggeliki the go to spot for homemade ice cream and sweets. By Jack Lyons Theatre and Film Critic Gay teenage angst may not be a mainstream issue for a lot of people but times are a changin’ in America. Growing up in America, or anywhere else for that matter, was never a picnic, however, growing up gay was definitely a private matter that led to a lot of alienation and confusion producing: hurtful, harmful, and ambiguous situations for many sons, daughters, parents, and friends. Todd Almond’s new rock musical “Girlfriend”, with music and lyrics by Matthew Sweet is a vanguard production that addresses the issues of understanding, acceptance, as well as the hopes and dreams of two gay teenage boys who discover one another in rural Nebraska in the summer of 1993. Tenderly and sensitively directed by Les Waters, artistic director of Actors Theatre of Louisville (ATL) KY, “Girlfriend” is a perfect fit for Waters, who directed “Marjorie Prime” at the Taper last
L - R: Ryder Bach and Curt Hansen - Photo by Craig Schwartz October which I reviewed, and who is also scheduled to direct “The Christians” at the Taper in January of 2016. I attended the Louisville Humana Festival in 2014 and reviewed the play “The Christians”, directed by Waters who blew me away with its brilliant inventiveness. Audiences at the Taper are in for a real treat come January of 2016. “Girlfriend”, is a compelling two-hander that stars Ryder Bach as Will, and Curt Hansen as Mike. Will, acts as his and our Greek chorus. He sets the stage as to his own sexuality, pondering how he will ever survive another hot, dusty, Midwest summer of being miserable without any “real” friends to share the vexing issues of growing up in a predetermined, socially rigid, America. Mike outwardly is a jock. A star baseball player a popular man on campus and well liked with a girlfriend. But he too isn’t fully integrated and ready for full entry into the fabric of American life.
Their first short and sweet encounters as classmates at school are guarded and cautious. No one wants to make a false assumption about the other. Eventually, there is a crack in ice and two begin a journey of discovery. As in life choices must be made with decisions that are painful. The performances of Bach and Hansen are riveting and mesmerizing to watch. Two young men at the height of their powers who have the talent to attack any situation the characters find themselves in and draw their audience right along with them. The youthful audience was noisy at first, but immediately quieted when the highly charged on stage moments arrived. One could hear a pin drop from an audience of over 300 rapt patrons as the two young actors exchanged their first kiss. The narrative and action of the story is punctuated by a red hot, four-piece rock band lead by Musical Director Julie Wolf, featuring guitarists Vivi Rama and
Janet Robin, and the Buddy Rich performance style of drummer Jyn Yates who really rocks the auditorium. Waters’ low key, unseen directorial hand overall is right on. However, if I had to be picky about the production it would come in the area of the glacial pacing and pauses between Will and Mike in the scenes where each makes a decision to close the gap and space that guardedly separates them from full commitment to each other. The production which is performed without an intermission, could easily lose a full ten minutes from its current running time of 90 minutes. Director Waters leads a creative team of scenic and costume design by David Zinn, a snappy lighting design by Ben Stanton and an approprate sound design by Jake Rodriguez. “Girlfriend” performs at the Kirk Douglas Theatre and runs through August 9, 2015.

RivCo Roads in Poor Condition
By KMIR News Staff Nearly half of the roads in the Riverside-San Bernardino area are in poor condition, costing the average motorist more than $800 in annual vehicle expenses, according to a study released today. The Riverside-San Bernardino area was ranked 14th-worst in the nation in terms of bad roads, with 46 percent considered to be in poor condition, according to the study by TRIP, a Washington, D.C.based transportation research group. The area placed 12th for additional costs to motorists due to bad roads, at an annual average of $812. The Los Angeles/Long Beach/Santa Ana region was second-worst, with 73 percent of roads in bad condition, costing the average motorist $1,031 a year in expenses such as vehicle deterioration and depreciation, increased
maintenance, fuel consumption and tire wear. The San Diego area placed eighth worst with 51 percent of roads in poor condition, and ninth worst in terms of annual cost to motorists, at $843. ``The long-term preservation and maintenance of our national transportation system depends on federal investment,’’ said Bud July 31, 2015
Wright, executive director of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. ``We can do better than the uncertainty of shortterm extensions. America needs Congress to fully fund a multiyear surface transportation bill.’’ Jill Ingrassia of the American Automobile Association said the rough roads ``stress nerves and
cost billions in unnecessary vehicle replacement, repair and fuel costs.’’ ``Full investment in our nation’s transportation system will reduce the financial burden on drivers and provide them with a smoother, safer and more efficient ride,’’ she said. Source KMIR

MUSIC Outstanding crop of new releases available now BY ROBERT KINSLER
Lovers of authentic Americana and roots music, funk and dance music, as well the late Grammy- and Academy Awardwinning composer James Horner all have reason to celebrate.
Artist: Michael Ubaldini Title: Songster – The Acoustic Reels (Blackwater Records) You might like if you enjoy: Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, Walter Clevenger, Bob Dylan Tell me more: Discerning fans of the burgeoning Americana movement have been rightfully encouraged by the success of a slew of talented newcomers but worry about the parade of unceasing acts whose slick approach (notably Milk Carton Kids and the Lumineers) threaten the movement’s delightfullyauthentic rough edges that are at odds with modern country’s cliché-heavy approach. Leave
it to alternative Americana hero Michael Ubaldini to strip things down to their acoustic underpinnings, using nothing more than an acoustic guitar, harmonica and his emotive baritone to set free a mix of new originals, as well as reworked standouts from his own rich discography and revisited traditional songs (the Celtic “Handsome Molly” and biting folk nugget “The Cuckoo”) on the ambitious 21-track “Songster – The Acoustic Reels.” Ubaldini is never less than both literate and artful with his lyrical approach as evidenced by the playful “Jean Harlow,” bona fide celebration of romance (“Sweet ole Riddle”), beautiful expression of loss (“Rosewood Night”), defiance and perseverance (“Walk Through Fire”) and probing look at America’s endangered freedoms (“Money, Bible and a Gun”). Information: rocknrollpoet.com.
Artist: Rock Candy Funk Party Title: Groove Is King (J&R Adventures) You might like if you enjoy: Daft Punk, Mark Ronson, Prince, Joe Bonamassa Tell me more: Music rarely gets funkier or grooves harder than the joyous Rock Candy Funk Party sophomore effort “Groove Is King.” Blending rock, funk, electronica, jazz, and R&B across its 16 tracks, RCFP offers up a mostly instrumental affair over its 70+ minute run; the wonderful exception is an amazing reworking of Peter Gabriel’s “Digging in the Dirt” where Zia offers up some vocal shadings. Fans of guitar great Joe Bonamassa will want to wrap their ears around “Uber Station,” where Bonamassa’s masterful fret work is featured amidst the heavy grooves and a soulful horn section (featuring
Randy Brecker, Ada Rovatti and James Campagnola); his graceful work on the heretofore noted “Digging in the Dirt” and speedy jazz licks on “Rock Candy” are a wonder. Everywhere the music making is outstanding, with performances that technically dazzle while simultaneously motivating the listener to move. The physical edition of the album comes with a bonus DVD that includes 50 minutes of in-studio footage of RCFP. Information: rockcandyfunkparty. Artist: James Horner Title: Southpaw (Sony Classical) You might like if you enjoy: James Horner’s previous soundtracks Tell me more: Whether enveloping the listener with tense and unsettling soundscapes (“The Preparations,” “A Fatal Tragedy,”
“A Cry for Help”) or touching our emotions at the deepest of levels (“A More Normal Life,” “Dream Crusher,” “The Funeral, Alone…”), composer James Horner’s “Southpaw” is a compelling listen for lovers of modern-day soundtracks and contemporary symphonic music. With its mix of traditional orchestral layers and electronica textures (just listen to “Suicidal Rampage”), “Southpaw” demonstrates Horner’s unique ability to bring additional depth in support of diverse film projects. Sadly, following the completion of this soundtrack, Horner died at the age of 61 when the single-engine plane he was piloting crashed into the Los Padres National Forest in Southern California on June 22, 2015. Among Horner’s bestknown scores were “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn” (1982), “Aliens” (1986), “Titanic” (1995) and “Avatar” (2009). Information: sonyclassical.com.

Mary Bridget Davies & Company. Photo: Joan Marcus. Before the pulsating rock musical “A Night With Janis Joplin” went to Broadway it was presented at the Pasadena Playhouse, starring Mary Bridget Davies in the title role. Davies, nominated for a Tony for her masterful performance, is back in Pasadena once again as the rock and blues superstar, Janis Joplin. The show, created, written and directed by Randy Johnson, was a phenomenal success in regional theater before it opened on Broadway on October 10, 2013 and Johnson is grateful for the input he received from
Joplin’s brother Michael and sister Laura. Both, according to Johnson, “shared their stories and provided a rare insight into their sister’s life.” The show, a musical journey, not only celebrates Joplin’s contribution to music, it honors her musical influences as well. They include: Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone (Yvette Carson), Bessie Smith and Odetta (Sylvia Maccalla), Etta James (Jenelle Lynn Randall) and Chantel (Sharon Catherine Brown.) The onstage band is also outstanding with music director, Tyler Evans on keys, Steven Gregory, guitar,
(L-R) Yvette Cason, Jenelle Lynn Randall, Sylvia MacCalla and Sharon Catherine Brown. Photo: Earl Gibson III. Devin Hoffman bass, Lee Thornburg and David Richards, trumpets, Tom Evans saxophone and Fred Simmons on trombone. The show is filled with music, and Act I ends with a rousing “Spirit in the Dark” sung by Bessie Smith, Aretha and Janis along with the Joplinaires. Also, in Act I there are two versions of Gershwin’s “Summertime” sung by Blues Woman and Joplin as separate solos. There are many songs that include “Stay With Me,””Cry Baby” “Me and Bobby McGee” and of course “Mercedes Benz” belted out by Joplin.

Report Finds California 38th in Nation in Kids’ Well-Being
By Desert Star Staff OAKLAND, Calif. – California is ranked 38th in the nation in overall child well-being, according to the Kids Count Data Book, released today by the nonprofit Annie E. Casey Foundation. Researchers looked at federal statistics from 2008 to 2013 and ranked states on topics including health, education and economics in terms of how they affect children. Jessica Mindnich from the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s California affiliate, Children Now, says the results are unacceptable in such a wealthy state. “We’re the eighth-largest www.desertstarweekly.com
economy in the world and yet, we have one in four kids living in poverty,” she says. “In fact, we’re ranked 49th in economic well-being.” One bright spot for California kids in the report is the Golden State is ranked 14th in the nation for children’s health, up from 26th the year before. Mindnich says the jump in healthcare is due, in part, to California’s aggressive implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The state has also opted to allow parents of undocumented children to enroll their kids in Medi-Cal as of next year.
“As a result of policy decisions over the last few years, having all kids with health insurance is actually a possibility in this state for the first time, and that’s really exciting,” she says. In education, the survey ranks California 38th, although Mindnich says the state has made significant progress in returning K-through-12 funding to 2008 levels, adding 21,000 additional pre-school slots for needy kids, and implementing Common Core education standards. that the professional hunter hired by Palmer, named as Theo Bronkhorst of Bushman Safaris, reported the “mistake” the following day. Bronkhorst is now facing charges of poaching, along with the owner of the land where Cecil was shot, named by the authorities as Honest Trymore Ndlovu of Antoinette farm. Both are due to appear in court on August 6. According to Johnny Rodrigues, head of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task
Force nonprofit that has been working in the country for the past 16 years, the country is rife with corruption. Zimbabweans let rich foreigners buy the rights to hunt prized animals, while government officials look the other way or even facilitate the poaching in exchange for bribes. Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit has been monitoring the Hwange lions since 1999, to measure the impact of hunting on the lion population within the
park. According to Dr. Andrew Loveridge, one of the lead researchers on the project, the remaining male in the pride will most likely be unable to protect Cecil’s cubs. “Jericho as a single male will be unable to defend the two prides and cubs from new males that invade the territory,” Loveridge told National Geographic. “This is what we most often see happening in these cases. Infanticide is the most likely outcome.”

9 Ways to Stay Safe in Beach Waters This Summer By Desert Star Staff WASHINGTON, -- You may have seen news reports about increased shark attacks this summer. If you’re taking a family vacation to the beach in the coming weeks, and you’re worried about letting your children swim in the ocean, check this advice from Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Service before you go: 1. Don’t go alone in the water. People swimming by themselves are more at risk. 2. Stay out of the water at high-risk hours. Sharks feed during the pre-dawn and twilight
hours, so avoid swimming and being mistaken for food. 3. Check for scrapes and cuts before entering the water. Sharks can detect the scent of blood from far away. 4. Take off the bling. Sharks perceive shiny jewelry and clothe the same way they perceive fish scales that glisten in the water. You don’t want to look like a shark’s main source of food. 5. V i s i t designated beaches. Every shore is not appropriate for swimming. If you see diving seabirds or bait fishes, there is most likely feeding
activity in that area. 6. Don’t let your pets in the water. Their erratic movements can be mistaken for baitfish. 7. Be careful around sandbars and steep drop-offs. These are popular spots for sharks.
8. Swim when lifeguards are present. They are trained to deal with water related emergencies. 9. Do not enter the water if sharks have been spotted -- just don’t. To learn more about more

Mark Taper Forum scores with a triumphant and powerful revival of “Bent”

By Jack Lyons Theatre and Film Critic The world learned about the holocaust in 1945, but many thought the millions murdered by Hitler’s Nazi Germany was directed solely at Europe’s Jews. There were, however, other targets on the Nazi’s radar screens. The “Pink Triangle” prisoners – Europe’s gay community were also scheduled for eradication. When playwright Martin Sherman came upon a reference to “pink triangles” in the 1976 play “As Time Goes By”, according program notes written by American Theatre Magazine editor-in-chief Rob WeinertKendt, the eureka moment for Sherman was the key element in the creation of his play “Bent”, which went on to debut in London’s West End in 1979, and then on Broadway in 1980. The endemic bombshell that the world would come to know as “aids” arrived with a vengeance in the 1980’s spawning several important plays dealing with themes and attitudes that this
insidious and invidious unknown killer of gay men in particular, was capable of accomplishing what the Nazi’s could not do: kill with impunity. The collaboration of playwright Sherman and director Moises Kaufman is the calculus that makes this revival at the Taper so powerful and compelling. “Bent” hasn’t been seen on Broadway in 35 years. In this revival the story remains roughly the same. It’s set in Berlin, between 1934 and 1936. Berlin has been a haven for Europe’s gay community for years. Although, considered as outsiders by mainstream society, gays and lesbians were safe to gather in “their nightclubs” to enjoy themselves and to mingle with straight people who occasionally visited to satisfy their curiosity. The story centers around Max (Patrick Heusinger), a promiscuous gay man in 1930’s Berlin, who is at odds with his wealthy family because of his homosexuality. One evening, much to the resentment of his boyfriend Rudy (Andy Mientus),
he brings home a handsome member of the Sturmabteilung corps. Unfortunately, it is the night that Hitler gives orders to assassinate the upper echelon of the Corps as a way of consolidating his power. Wolf, the Sturmabteilung member (Tom Berklund) is discovered and killed by SS men in Max and Rudy’s apartment, forcing them to flee Berlin. Max’s Uncle Freddie (Ray Baker), who is also gay, but lives a discreet lifestyle, arranges for papers for him, but not for Rudy and Max refuses to leave his young and naïve boyfriend behind. As a result, Max and Rudy are found and arrested by the Gestapo and put on a train headed for the Dachau concentration camp. On the train, Rudy calls out to Max as he is taken away to be beaten. Rudy is brought back and beaten to death by Max, who denies he knows him; lying to the guards that he is a Jew and not a homosexual, because he believes his chances for survival in the camp will be better if he
is not assigned the pink triangle. Once in the camp, Max makes friends with fellow prisoner Horst (Charlie Hofheimer), who wears a pink triangle, and who shows him the dignity that lies in acknowledging what one is. The two grow closer in friendship, eventually falling in love becoming lovers through their imagination and through their words without ever touching one another. Their love scene commitment to one another runs about six or seven minutes – center stage, in full lights - is absolutely stunning in its power to transform and liberate not only each other, but the audience as well. It’s a tour de force performance by two gifted and empowered actors. To avoid spoiler alerts one will just have to attend a performance of this transformative play to see for themselves, how it ends. I will say this about the ending. When the lights went to black, the entire audience immediately
stood up and applauded nonstop for about two or three minutes. In 43 years of attending Taper productions, I can’t remember such an audiencefueled standing ovation. It was a sublime moment. “Bent” is a stellar production brilliantly overseen by director Kaufman who leads the creative team of Scenic and Costume designer Beowulf Boritt, along with Lighting Designer Justin Townsend, and Wig and Hair design by Carol F. Doran. A special kudo goes to Sound Designer Cricket S. Myers for contributions to the overall sound throughout the production which is so integral to the tone and “audio feel” of this splendid production (but I did miss hearing the high pitched whistle of European trains. But I digress). “Bent” performs at the Mark Taper Forum and runs through August 23, 2015.
By Dan Marinelli Palm Springs – There were showers in Palm Springs this weekend, but they did not fall from the sky. Nope, these showers sprayed out of the champagne bottles in the Palm Springs Stadium locker room after the POWER clinched the its seventh Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL) championship (fourth straight). For the first time in five seasons, the POWER finished second behind the SCCBL’s newest team, the San Diego Force (14-4-2, SCCBL, 37-6-2 Overall). Despite failing to win
the league, the POWER (14-6 SCCBL, 36-13 Overall) still got the last laugh by reaching the playoff championship, while the Force did not. The POWER went up against another league newcomer the OC Riptide in the series to decide it all. The Palm Springs did not know much about the squad from the O.C. before this season but after losing the first game of the three-game championship series, 6-1, the POWER knew the championship would not be a stroll in the park. After failing to show up offensively in the first game, the
Riptide were just waiting for the POWER to break out. The next night, the POWER posted eight runs, winning the middle game 8-2. Palm Springs scored first in game one, but when they scored first in game two, they never looked back. With Luke Barker on the mound for the boys in red and white the Riptide would not be able to mount a comeback like the previous night. In a close, decisive game three, the POWER edged out the Riptide 4-2 to ultimately win the SCCBL title. Palm Springs pitcher Angel Landazuri
allowed a run in the first inning but settled down and finished a complete five innings to get the win. The ‘Tide had opened the game shutting down the first nine POWER batters of the game. In the fourth inning, and error consecutive hits from Nick Jackson and Ian Mcoughlin put the home team up 2-1. In the seventh, Palm Springs received two more, much-needed insurance runs on a two-out single from Cody Gaertner. The Riptide would score one more time in the ninth. Second-year POWER pitcher Keaton Cenatiempo would
successfully get the close, and seal the title in front of roughly 500 loyal fans. The POWER played the East Los Angeles Dodgers last night.* Tonight, Palm Springs will start the So Cal World Series against the winner of the Orange County Collegiate League.
