Three Winning Tickets The jackpot was estimated to have reached 1.586 billion dollars.
3 tickets split $930mn top Powerball prize amid scandal and criticism After 19 draws and hours in line, the record $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot has finally been won. The $930 million top prize is set to be shared among three winning tickets sold in California, Tennessee, and Florida. Crowds gathered to celebrate at a 7-Eleven store in Chino Hills, California where one of the winning tickets was sold.
The store will receive a $1 million payment for selling the ticket and a lot of love from their regulars judging by the response. The identity of the winners is not yet known. It has been confirmed that the other two winning tickets were bought in Munford, Tennessee and Melbourne Beach, Florida. Despite the celebrations
and excitement, the game is experiencing scandal, multiple criminal investigations, and highprofile resignations. It all came to a head when Powerball’s security director Eddie Tipton was caught and convicted for rigging a draw through a backdoor hack and sending his brother to collect the winnings.

Tipton is currently serving 10 years in prison. Charles Strutt, Powerball’s original employee and long-time director, quietly resigned late last year following Tipton’s conviction. her childhood friends and show them on her patio. Many times the kids would not show up so she learned to do stand up by herself. She always felt she could do it all. Tomlin said that she loved working with all the actors as they had a lot of fun and there was a lot of chemistry among them. They all worked so well together and she felt they are just the best actors in this movie. She has worked with Director Paul Weitz before and was thrilled to be working with him again. Tomlin also mentioned the old car she still has that is used in the film. She joked she drove it until the brakes got too bad. She loved the car with all its chrome trim and said because it was black the trim showed even more She loved that car and when they said they needed an old car in the movie she gave them hers to use. You will have to notice it when you go see the film
Story and Photos by Pat Krause Actress and comedian Lily Tomlin participated in a Q & A after the movie; Grandma was shown at the Annenberg Theatre on Jan. 4th. The Q & A moderator was Janelle Riley from Variety. Tomlin plays a woman that has just broken up with her girlfriend
when her Granddaughter makes an appearance into her life. The Granddaughter desperately needs 600 dollars immediately. Tomlin as the Grandmother has no money to give so they spend the day trying to find the money somehow. They try friends and past flames that create problems
and unleash secrets in the quest for the money. Tomlin gave interviews and posed for the press in the green room at the Annenberg Theatre. Tomlin told of one of her favorite movies with Lana Turner in the film, Imitation of Life. She said
the older generations are more emotional during this film than the younger generation and that is why she told the story to her fellow actors. Tomlin also said she was always involved in entertaining even as a young girl. She would create plays with
Story and Photos by Pat Krause The Golden Boys, Frankie Avalon and Bobbie Rydell, were back at Fantasy Springs Resort Spa Special Events Center on Jan. 8th. There are usually 3 Golden Boys to this Concert but Fabian had to cancel because of illness. Both Avalon and Rydell came on stage together to start the Concert. The First to entertain was Rydell. He started with Goodie Goodie and Wild One. He told of his double transplant that he was so fortunate to be alive because of this 21-year-old girl. This girl also helped save 7 other people so he asked the audience to
put on their drivers license that they will be a donor to help save someone else. He came so close to death and is forever grateful to his donor. He asked the audience if they knew what a 45 player was and how many still had one. A lot of hands went up to his surprise. He said that a lot of the singers from that era were close friends and that he and Avalon lived only a couple blocks from each other growing up. He sang his 1960 Gold Record hit, Volare and another hit, Sway. The Philly Boys <Golden Boys>, Rydell, Avalon and Fabian and have been touring together for years.
They were all teen Idols and movie stars during their careers. Frankie Avalon came on stage next, mentioned Rydell as a friend, and said he was always skinny so they named him Pipe cleaner in Italian. He went on to tell about his time in the movies with Annette Funicello and all the Beach Movies they did together. He sang Beach Blanket Bingo and others. One of my favorite Avalon hits was, Venus, which he sang on American Idol. He introduced the drummer as his son who gave a solo to show his talents on the drums. Avalon said he has been married to the same woman for years and they have 8
children, 4 boys and 4 girls ages of them. Singing oldies brought 42 to 52. Avalon and Rydell still back a lot of good memories for have amazing voices and can all their fans. still belt out a song with the best

By Pamela Price The 27th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, one of the largest and most respected in North America, focused on over “174 films from over 60 countries during 12 days”, according to Harold Matzner, Festival Chairman. Among new directors ten were singled out by Variety Magazine, Son of Saul (Hungarian) directed by Laszlo Nemes and Mustang (French) directed by Deniz Gamze Erguven. Both directors delve into socially relevant themes, casting an enlightening perspective on the Holocaust on one extreme and suppression of women’s rights on the other. Mr. Nemes was educated

according to Variety one of the year’s breakthrough cinematic discoveries. The talented Mr. Nemes, made his debut at the Cannes Film Festival earning the jury’s Grand Prix for a film to “confront the Holocaust hear-on, literally revealing the human effect of Auschwitz on a conflicted person’s face.” Mustang, on the other hand, earned Ms. Gamze a Golden Globe nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film and the Critic’s Choice Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. This comingof-age drama focuses on five orphaned sisters living in rural Turkey under (surviving is a better word) under the domination of their controlling grandmother and uncle. The lengths to which their family goes to objective to isolate the sisters from any semblance of freedom emerges as a “critique of Turkey” in less than subtle ways. I have to admit, their story, thanks to the genius of Ms. Gamze, brought tears to my eyes. In a larger sense, it reveals the status of women in countries that deny women even their freedom to use a phone, drive a car or refuse to obey the ritual of an arranged marriage. Both directors explore oppression, each in their own style. Top billing to both Son of Saul and Mustang as twin wake-up calls to the plight of the oppressed, wherever and whoever they are. T H E AT R E ‘Bullets Over Broadway’ at Pantages & ‘Irrational Man’ on DVD BY THEDA KLEINHANS REICHMAN
Jeff Brooks (Cheech) and the cast of the North American tour of the hit musical comedy BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, written by Woody Allen featuring original direction and choreography by Susan Stroman. (Photo by Matthew Murphy “Bullets Over Broadway: The Musical,” written by Woody Allen, is based on his screenplay of the same name, co-written with Douglas McGrath. The original direction and choreography for the musical are by Susan Stroman, a five time Tony Award winner who also gave dance pizzazz to Mel Brooks’ smash hit Broadway musical “The Producers.” In Woody’s musical, the storyline revolves around the making of a 1920s Broadway show with a ‘lota’ financial help from the mob. The young, but very pretentious playwright, David Shayne (Michael Williams) is willing to do almost anything to get his play produced on Broadway. Things look up when his agent Julian Mars (Rick Grossman) links him up with Nick (Michael Corvino), a mob boss intent on making his bimbo girlfriend a star on the Great White Way. There is just one big problem. Olive (Jemma Jane) is a total ditz, with no talent whatsoever and a voice that could stop a clock as well as a
Broadway show. Horrified at the thought of her in his play, David flatly refuses, but later relents because he wants his show to go on. And maybe, he hopes, Olive will improve. No such luck. Since Olive is a flirt, Nick sends his chief hit man Cheech (Jeff Brooks) to every rehearsal to insure that Olive doesn’t misbehave. While the entire cast is uniformly good, it is Brooks (Gaston in the Disney National Tour of “Beauty and the Beast”) who steals the show. On opening night, his big song and dance number with fellow gangsters stopped the show. . Act I opens with a bang, literally, as Cheech comes out with a machine gun and blasts away, but after that the expository opening scenes slow down the momentum as we are introduced to the various characters. The “Tiger Rag” dance sequence is cute and clever, but then “Gee Baby, Ain’t I Good to You,” sung by Olive and Nick, goes on too long. Things perk up again when we meet the other actors who will be in the play. Bradley Allan
Zarr is a hoot as Warner Purcell, the leading man who loves to eat. As time goes by, thanks to a variety of ‘fat suits,’ his waistline grows by leaps and bounds, but despite his ever-increasing girth, he is always light on his feet. The very elegant and beautiful Emma Stratton plays Helen Sinclair, the role that garnered Diane Wiest an Oscar. Helen also flirts with David, using the memorable line from the movie--”Don’t speak” often. She leads him on in the hope of padding her part. Hannah Rose Deflumeri also gives a show stopping performance as David’s longsuffering girlfriend who hopes to marry him one of these days And in Act II, when she sings “I’ve Found a New Baby,” she, like Brooks, receives thunderous applause. While the story is fluffy and fun on many levels, it also poses a dark question as well. As the show goes on, Cheech discovers he has a natural gift for play writing, plotting and dialogue. At one point he asks David if he ever reads magazines to see
Kaylee Olson, Carissa Fiorillo and Elizabeth Dugas (The Atta- Girls) in the North American tour of the hit musical comedy BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, written by Woody Allen featuring original direction and choreography by Susan Stroman. (Photo by Matthew Murphy) how real people talk. Soon, rather than being protective of Olive, who is a terrible actress, Cheech begins to think that the show must go on without her. But should he bump her off to make sure that the play is a hit? Unlike Mel Brook’s “The Producers, “ this show does not have an original musical score. Instead Woody Allen uses songs from the era like “Up A Lazy River,” “’Tain’t Nobody’s Bizness If I Do,” “Let’s Misbehave.” “Runnin’ Wild” and “There’ll Be Some Changes Made” (referring to script rewrites.) The final song is “Yes, We’ve Got No Bananas” which ties in with the kind of naughty “The Hot Dog Song” sung in Act I by Olive. “Bullets Over Broadway”is frothy fun, with a few dark moments and is at its best in Act II with not one, but two showstopping numbers. “Bullets Over Broadway,” at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre, 6233 Hollywood Blvd., L.A., through January 24, 2016 only. For tickets: online at www.HollywoodPantages.com or www.Ticketmaster.com. By phone: 1-800-982-2787 or in person at the box office.

“Irrational Man,” written and directed by Woody Allen, is now available on Blu-ray and DVD as of January 12. The film, a dark comedy-drama starring Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Jamie Blackley and Parker Posey, is similar in tone to Allen’s “Crimes and Misdemeanors” since both films pose interesting

philosophical questions about good and evil. Phoenix (“Her”) plays Abe Lucas, a tormented philosophy professor who has come to a small college town to teach. He feels burned out. At this point, his life feels meaningless. Despite his depression, he becomes involved with two local women. One is Rita Richards (Parker Posey), a lonely professor who want him to rescue her from her unhappy marriage. He is also drawn to Jill Pollard (Emma Stone, “Birdman”) who is his best student. Soon she also becomes his best friend. Unfortunately for Jill, their relationship causes friction between her and her boyfriend Roy (James Blackley). Jill loves Roy, but is attracted by Abe’s tortured, artistic personality, coupled with his exotic past. By pure chance, everything changes for Abe and Jill when they happen to overhear a stranger’s conversation. At this point Abe makes a dramatic and profound choice that reinvigorates his enthusiasm for living once again. But his decision also sets off a series of events that will profoundly affect the lives of both Jill and Rita forever. Special features on both the Blu-ray and DVD include “On the Red Carpet: Los Angeles Film Premiere” and a Photo Gallery. The film has a running time of 95 minutes and is rated R for some language and sexual content. From Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. Harry Potter and Die-Hard star Alan Rickman dies age 69
By Desert Star Staff Alan Rickman died in London at age 69, his family confirmed Thursday. The actor, made famous by films like Die Hard, Harry Potter, Love Actually, and Robin Hood, had been suffering from cancer. The London-born thespian first came to international prominence in 1988 when he stole the show from Bruce Willis in the original Die Hard film, hamming it up as iconic villain Hans Gruber, a role he won two days after arriving in Los Angeles at the not so youthful age of 41. He became famous for his malicious roles including the Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series, a role which won
him a new generation of fans. Despite Hollywood success, Rickman never lost touch with the stage, where his first big break came in 1986 in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, earning him a Tony nomination. In 1996, he appeared on television as the legendary Grigori Rasputin, a peasant who rose to a position of influence in the Russian court. He also lent his distinctive voice to animated shows including King of the Hill. Unreleased films by Rickman include Alice Through the Looking Glass to be released in May, in which he voices a caterpillar, and Eye in the Sky to be released in April, where he plays a lieutenant entangled in a tense drone stand off.
Acura Precision Concept Points to Bold Future for Acura Design
By Desert Star Staff DETROIT, -- The Acura Precision Concept model made its world debut at the 2016 North American International Auto Show today, pointing toward a bolder, more distinctive future for Acura vehicle design. The Acura Precision Concept was developed by the Acura Design Studio in California to express the Acura brand DNA of “Precision Crafted Performance.” “There is no more clear promise for the Acura brand than Precision Crafted Performance,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of Acura. “We’re committed to infusing this core Acura promise into every facet of our products and every aspect of our relationship with the customer.” With an emphasis on high-contrast details and the intersection of modern, sheer surfaces and muscular, organic sculpting, the Acura Precision Concept communicates Acura’s focus on performance and prestige through its ultra-low and wide stance, long dash-to-axle ratio, deeply sculpted surfaces and the debut of a new Diamond Pentagon grille. “The Acura Precision Concept is more than simply a concept vehicle, it is a design
study model that literally will shape the direction of all future Acura products around our Precision Crafted Performance DNA,” said Dave Marek, Acura global creative director. “The Acura Precision Concept is the leading edge of a renewed commitment to delivering Precision Crafted Performance in every facet of the product experience and creating a powerful and very exciting direction for the next generation of Acura models.” The Acura Precision Concept’s crouched and athletic stance is further emphasized by its deeply sculpted side surfaces pouring over swelling rear wheel arches covering 22-inch wheels and tires. The forwardlooking concept also features signature lighting designs – in front with its Jewel Constellation LED headlights composed of organically arranged fractal elements, and in back with floating LED taillights. A key design theme, dubbed “quantum continuum,” is seen in the seamless transition of materials and structure from the exterior to the interior of the vehicle, which is further highlighted by the absence of a b-pillar. The large door rocker panel flows into the interior side sill, transitioning into a cantilever

The rear center high-mounted stoplight becomes an architecture element piercing the rear glass and then flowing down to help form the structure for the metal airfoil shape of the rear headrests. The elegant and powerful exterior is matched by its dramatic interior design, where cantilevered surfaces meet with striking tones, expressive surfacing and modern detailing. Of particular note are the doublelayered instrument panel, the high-contrast front seat surfaces,
the ultra-thin “floating” rear seats, evoking the look of modern lounge furniture, and the handcrafted audio speaker grilles made of exotic wood. The driver’s space is highlighted by a compact, race-inspired, sports steering wheel with paddle shifters and Integrated Dynamics System (IDS) controls, a floating center meter, a driver’s head-up display, a cantilevered center stack and an ultra-wide, thin and curved center display screen. New Acura HMI Concept
The Acura Precision Concept also explores a new approach for Acura’s digital human-machine interface (HMI), enabling a more intuitive, advanced and seamless connection between man and machine. A floating touch pad suspended on the cantilevered center stack operates the ultra-wide and curved center screen. Upon entry, the system scans each occupant and selects personalized features and functions, including maps, audio and customized vehicle performance settings.
