“Camelot”
Palm Canyon Theatre Now In Its 23Rd Season Presents Lerner And Lowe’s “Camelot.” By Jack Lyons Theatre and Film Critic Member American Theatre Critics Association Although our society and culture is always evolving when it comes to our entertainment choices - theatre, movies, TV streaming platforms, and
music – thankfully, there are always the golden oldies that audiences of a certain age cling to and with good reason. They’re familiar; they’re warm, cozy, and deliver music and lyrics to which that age group can understand and relate. The Palm Canyon Theatre of Palm Springs (PCT), now in its 23rd season of presenting
quality entertainment, is producing a revival of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Lowe’s romantic fairy tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Roundtable, based on the T.H. White book “The Once and Future King,” better known as the musical “Camelot.” Alan Jay Lerner, and Frederick Lowe, are among
Story by Pat Krause The new Host of the Tournament, Phil Mickelson, held a Q&A for reporters before play at the new American Express golf tournament. The first big PGA tournament of the year. Phil Mickelson will turn 50 this year with an upcoming birthday. Phil said he still plans on playing in the PGA tournaments as his golf game is at top form. He has changed his diet and exercise programs, so it shows with a weight loss. He said he feels
better than he did in his 20’s and his game is right after working on it in his weeks off. He is looking forward to a new year and says his duties as Host of this tournament will test his game as he has so many new responsibilities. There have been a lot of changes in the American Express tournament, too, with the monies being donating to local charities. They say that all the funds raised will still stay locally to Valley Charities. Mickelson was asked a lot about his game and how he
dealt with a few bad months of play last year. They asked him about his health and the regimen he adheres to now. He said that he didn’t realize the power of social media when discussions of slow play were addressed. His fans and other golfers can now connect more with social media like Instagram, Facebook, or twitter. The trials of being Host this year didn’t help his golf game. He did not make the

toll on that aspect, I guess. The PGA is trying something new with concerts. Last year’s concerts were a big hit with golf and music fans. This year they brought big names, Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac and other bands on Friday night and Luke Bryant on Saturday night. The Stage was set up on the Driving Range at the Nickolas Stadium Course. The idea of concerts has been working. The fans started arriving on the driving range even before the end of the play. The galleries for the golfers I don’t think are as big as when celebrities played, but the ticket sales have improved over the last few years because of the concerts. Stevie Nicks fans numbered almost 22,000 people. Luke Bryant fans were even more with 23,000
filling the grassy areas. The sides of the course were filled with blankets and people watching. Golf carts from the local residents could be seen on the hill in large numbers. I guess there isn’t anywhere you can watch the top PGA players in a big tournament and see a concert with top names for the $50.00 daily fee for each day of the shows. Both Stevie Nicks and Luke Bryant sang some of their big hits where guests sang along and knew the words. Stevie Nicks did a solo night after touring with the band, Fleetwood Mac. She has several solo tour dates for 2020. I heard that traffic was a bit of a problem as there is only one way in and one way out for those 20,000 plus fans. Hopefully, they will fix that for next year.

Again the After Party was a fun night this time at the Hilton Palm Springs upper floor ballroom area. A buffet of salads, two kinds of pasta and meatballs, Corn on the cob, Vegetables, Garlic bread, and Roast
Beef with mushrooms. The party started as soon as the movie was over and guests arrived at the Hilton. There was valet service as usual for these afterparties. A DJ spun music while guests filled their plates. The entertainment
was uniquely different as they brought music by local legends to the dance floor singing songs of Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe. Then the dance floor filled with people dancing to the DJs music.

score to earn more money. There was a nail-biting finish with Andrew Landry having a big lead in the tournament. All of a sudden, he had 3 birdies to get a big lead, and then he had 3 bogies to be only one up. Abraham Ancer holed a long putt to tie him at -24 for the lead. Scottie Scheffler also made a charge to -23 and get close by one. Landry came on strong after his bogies to let them know he wasn’t going to give up any more strokes. Abraham Ancer
stayed sharp on the putting green in case of a tie. Andrew Landry made a great shot on 18, where he only had to make par to win. He ended up with a short putt, and he put it square in the hole. The winner was Andrew Landry at -26, Abraham Ancer was 2nd with a -24, and Scottie Scheffler came in 3rd with a -23. Once again, it came down to the 18th hole to crown another winner. Another excellent finish with fantastic weather and a fantastic golf course. January 22, 2020

Americans don’t seem too confident about the state of their financial readiness for Retirement. From millennials who are too busy paying off college debt to even think about saving for Retirement, to baby boomers who are hitting retirement age with nothing saved at all, the statistics paint an alarming picture. Compounding factors, such as divorce and skyrocketing health care costs, along with Debt and marital disruption, has placed women into a more vulnerable financial position. Only 12 percent of women are “very confident” in their ability to fully retire. Nearly half of Americans seem ill-prepared for Retirement. Longevity is increasing, and we should all be thankful, right? The problem is that people are faced with longer periods of Retirement. Science could provide for even longer, healthier lives. Today, news of cures of major diseases and solutions to lessen the severity is becoming more common. However, due to social inequality, people fear
that only the rich would have access to life-extending cures. Perhaps more concerning, most people don’t have a real plan to deal with inflation, The majority said they would adjust by merely living more modestly. This sounds easy, but it may be more complicated than they think. The Retirement plans of the past have not incorporated the lifestyle changes of
The Open Meeting Act
By Kelly G. Richardson, Esq. CCAL Kelly, how much notice is required regarding place and time for monthly board meetings? Thanks, C.B., Redondo Beach. Dear C.B.: Under Civil Code 4920(a), four days’ notice must be provided before board meetings, unless the meeting is solely in closed executive session (in which case 2 days’ notice is required by Civil 4920(b) (2)). If the meeting qualifies as an emergency board meeting under Civil 4923, no advance notice need be announced. Sincerely, Kelly
Open Meeting Act only gives association members the right to attend open meetings of the association board. Civil 4925 states “Any member may attend board meetings…” So, tenants, family members of owners or owner representatives do not have the right to attend. The SB Liberty v. Isla Verde case, decided in 2013, involved owners who transferred their unit to their limited liability company and then sought to have their attorney attend board meetings on that company’s behalf. The court confirmed that the law only gives the right of attendance to members. Some associations do not have bylaws or rules which state who can attend board meetings. To avoid possible confusion and embarrassing situations, associations should have a written meeting policy confirming whether non-members may attend. Thanks, Kelly.

other directors to advocate their view? Yes, because it is not specifically prohibited. However, conducting secret discussions will at some point be discovered, damaging the membership’s trust in the board. Furthermore, do directors want always be “on duty,” or would it be better to hold discussions until board meetings? The Open Meeting Act doesn’t only protect the membership, it also protects the board from being “on duty” 24 hours 7 days a week. Best regards, Kelly
Dear J.N.: Civil 4090 defines a board “meeting” as any time a quorum of directors discusses anything within the board’s authority. So, a chat, phone call, group text, or video conference involving a board quorum is a “board meeting.” With the growing (if not predominant) use of email, Civil 4910 anticipates electronic communication by specifically banning electronic transmissions as a method of making decisions. So, a group text, or a group email involving a quorum of the board regarding HOA business would violate the section. Technically, could a director on a five-member board make calls or send separate emails to each of the

New York Times eviscerated for dual endorsement of Warren/Klobuchar
By Desert Star Staff New York Times editor Mara Gay said the paper’s Sunday night dual endorsement of Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar is meant to point out that there’s two ways forward for anti-Trump voters, but neither side is buying it. “This is really our way of narrowing that field, and also just pointing out to voters there is more than one pathway forward here,” Gay told Morning Joe on Monday, saying Warren and Klobuchar present the best “two paths” to beat US President Donald Trump. Conservatives have mocked the dual endorsement for being motivated by identity politics — Warren and Klobuchar are two of the last three women running for the nomination from the Democrat Party — while potential Democrat voters have slammed the New York Times for being incapable of picking one candidate. “BREAKING: The New York Times picks both the
Chiefs and the 49ers to win the Super Bowl,” conservative commentator and podcaster Ben Shapiro tweeted in response to its dual 2020 endorsement. The mocking tone was echoed by many in reaction to the paper’s editorial board, not only being unable to make a clear endorsement. “The @nytimes now with twice the wokeness,” joked ‘Justified’ actor and ‘Gosnell’ director Nick Searcy. Conservative podcaster and Townhall columnist Derek Hunter theorized the addition of Klobuchar in the Times’ endorsement decision was simply a reluctance to throw their full weight behind the controversial Warren. “Their heart is with Warren, but they want to continue pretending to not be a left-wing rag, so they tossed in Klobuchar knowing she doesn’t stand a chance,” Hunter tweeted. doesn’t stand a chance. — Derek Hunter One of the most surprising aspects of a dual endorsement of Klobuchar/ Warren is that the two candidates are quite different policy-wise. Klobuchar has attempted to sell herself as more of a moderate liberal, while Warren has embraced drastic policies like Medicare for All and higher tax rates on top earners. “On one hand, the hot
mess of the #NYTimes endorsement is trivial as this may not change a single vote. On the other hand, we may look at this as THE moment it was clear the opposition to Trump lost its mind and couldn’t get its act together,” Philadelphia Inquirer opinion columnist Will Bunch tweeted. House Bill Aims to Fill Gaps in Pregnant Worker Protections
By Desert Star Staff A bill in Congress that would ensure pregnant women aren’t fired from their jobs for requesting reasonable accommodations in the workplace has received bipartisan approval by the House Education and Labor Committee and should soon move to the House floor for a vote. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act is co-sponsored by 26 representatives from both sides of the aisle. Elizabeth Gedmark, vice president of the workforce advocacy group A Better Balance, said 27 states have passed pregnantworker protections, but Arkansas isn’t one of them. “So, for those folks that
4

are in Arkansas, they are dealing with a much different scenario,” Gedmark said. “And that’s why we need the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, so that folks can have these protections in every state.” Gedmark said 1978 federal law bars employers from firing someone because they’re pregnant but doesn’t protect pregnant workers from unsafe working conditions. She added pregnancy discrimination remains widespread. According to the National Partnership for Women and Families, nearly 31,000 such claims were filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission between 2010 and 2015. Low-wage and hourly
workers, and often women of color, tend to work in physically demanding jobs. The bill would clear the way for simple considerations - such as needing to sit or avoid heavy lifting - during pregnancy. Gedmark said pregnancy discrimination occurs across socioeconomic lines, but these workers are especially vulnerable. “This unique issue of needing reasonable accommodations tends to be more lower-wage workers, and those pregnant workers who don’t have as much bargaining power,” she said. “They can’t march into HR’s office and say, ‘I demand a pregnancy parking spot.’ If they do something like that, they might risk their job.” January 22, 2020
As a result, Gedmark said, many low-income women are forced to choose between work and a safe pregnancy. “Sometime she loses her health insurance while she is very far along in her pregnancy and has to switch providers,” she said. “We have heard situations where women have wound up
homeless - and not just them, but their families, their older children - because they simply can’t pay the bills anymore.” Gedmark also noted black women filed nearly 30% of pregnancy discrimination complaints between 2010 and 2015, despite making up only 14% of the female labor force.

3 Ways To Get Back Up When Your Career Knocks You Down
By Chuck Crumpton Life can change in an instant. And sometimes a sudden job loss or a severe drop in your business is the manifestation of that hard reality. Along with a significant loss of income, getting fired, being replaced in a company restructuring, or losing your business can cause one to feel a lost sense of identity and purpose. Feelings such as sadness, fear, powerlessness, anger, resentment, and confusion can be overwhelming and make it difficult to move forward. The next step might be difficult to see, let alone take. It all came crashing down on Chuck Crumpton when he was fired from a lucrative job that seemed to be going well for him. The next few years were a roller coaster ride to a better place – his own global consulting firm in the healthcare industry. Along the way he learned lessons about how to get up and move forward when life is knocking one down. “Everyone has peaks and valleys,” says Crumpton
(www.chuckcrumpton. com), author of The Jagged Journey: A Raw & Real Memoir about the Non-Perfect Path of Life & Business. “But from the small business CEO who’s struggling mightily to the dedicated and long-valued employee who’s suddenly shown the door, the valleys can be very hard to pull themselves out of. “From that personal pain, however, can come an amazing growth experience that allows you to overcome difficult challenges, embrace vulnerability and transparency, and feel the joy of becoming a better you.” Crumpton suggests these three ways to rebound when your career knocks you down: Don’t let losing your job or business define you. “Don’t take it too personally,” Crumpton says. “What you do, or did, is not who you are. People who consider losing their job or company as a sign of inadequacy are less likely to forge ahead quickly and with conviction than those who viewed their loss as a chance to grow in self-awareness and build resilience. Make
a list of your strengths and accomplishments to rebuild your confidence. Potential employers will be attracted to people who have shown they can stay positive and confident despite a setback.” Develop positive daily rituals. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut, especially when tough times happen. But what you do every day can bring change over time. “Instead of worrying, take action,” Crumpton says. “In place of doubt, have faith. Focus on the future; get small but important things done each day that advance your cause for a new job or new business plan. A small part of your life is decided by uncontrollable circumstances or mistakes you made, but the majority of your life is decided by your responses to those circumstances or mistakes.” Plug into your network. The best-fitting jobs sometimes aren’t advertised. Finding those jobs that are often filled by word of mouth require tapping into your list of contacts. “Reach out to people you know and who know your capabilities well,” Crumpton says. “Enlist their
support in making connections that could help you. They may know of openings that you wouldn’t find on a job board. The old adage, ‘It’s who you know,’ can be the key to opening the next door.” ”When one door closes, another door opens,
although the hallway in between can be very long and filled with obstacles,” Crumpton says. “It takes patience and perseverance, but what you can learn along the way definitely leads to a better place.”

Money in Politics Decade After Citizens United By Desert Star Staff DALLAS -- A decade after the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Citizens United decision opened the floodgates for independent campaign contributions, grassroots groups in Texas and across the nation still are struggling to limit the influence of money in politics. Dave Jones, president of Clean Elections Texas, says the ruling has tipped the scales of lady justice, and most Americans realize that their government does not represent them the way it should. “And what the court has done, it has just tipped those scales,” he states. “It’s put our democratic system out of balance, by giving too much weight to money, to wealthy interests. And those are corporations and wealthy individuals, primarily.”
www.desertstarweekly.com
Citing previous decisions, the nation’s high court ruled that political spending is a form of protected speech, and that independent spending by unions or corporations should not be limited. The court also signaled that transparency in contributions would rein in bad players. Overturning the court’s ruling would require a constitutional amendment. According to new Public Citizen reports, corporations have spent more than half a billion dollars to influence elections, largely anonymously, since 2010, and just 25 ultrawealthy individuals poured $1.4 billion into super PACs. Robert Weissman, president of Public Citizen, says the ruling also has sparked pushback. Nine in ten Americans say they’re disgusted
by the influence of big money in politics, and three quarters support overturning Citizens United. “The only reason this overwhelming and intense demand for reform has not yet been matched by responsive legislation and a constitutional amendment is because of the influence of this small number of super rich people and giant corporations,” Weissman stresses. Since 2010, Weissman says millions of Americans have signed petitions to reverse the court’s decision, and more than 800 local government resolutions and 20 states have called for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. So far, 121 members of the current Congress have co-sponsored legislation for a constitutional amendment. January 22, 2020

How AI Uses Document Verification To Keep You Safe
By Stephen Hyduchak It’s a moment most people have experienced. You’re required to show your ID for Is it You or an ID thiefsomething, and you wait as the person studies both your face and the photo on the driver’s license, passport, or other document, making sure you’re not an impersonator trying to pull a fast one. These days, artificial
intelligence is playing a role similar to that security person, with software that allows validation of IDs remotely through digital document verification. This way you can do business through your smartphone, and someone on the other end can make sure you’re who you say you are and that a thief hasn’t stolen your identity. And that’s especially
important at a time when identity theft has been on the rise, says Stephen Hyduchak, CEO of Aver (www.goaver.com), an identity-verification service. “Fraudsters are getting creative, but so is technology,” Hyduchak says. “It’s important to keep up because there are so many ways to create fake documents that allow someone to claim to be you and maybe
even get away with it.” Hyduchak says there are a few categories of document fraud: Illegitimate documents. These documents are completely false. They have characteristics such as missing holograms or other current standards that are essential parts of a legitimate version of that document. False documents. This is a document that belongs to one person, but that another person tries to use in an effort to authenticate himself. Modified documents. This is when an original document is altered. Hyduchak says the alterations can be caught with software that detects whether fonts and text match the originals. How do fraudsters even get the ID documents to start with? Hyduchak says it’s a matter of data security breaches – and often a combination of more than one breach. He gives this example. Just recently, the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, using a third-party Know-YourCustomer (KYC) provider, was the victim of a hack that leaked
over 10,000 photographs of purported Binance KYC data. This breach affected up to 60,000 people. “On Binance, users buy and sell cryptocurrency, something that is privacycentric by its very nature, but still vulnerable,” Hyduchak says. “Coupling leaks like this with major data breaches like Equifax and Target, our personal information can be manipulated for the fraud with some basic photoshop work.” A digital verification process is one way to head off any subterfuge, Hyduchak says. For example, his company has a program that works this way: The user captures a picture of their ID or passport using their smartphone. The user then takes a selfie to verify they are the same person pictured on the ID or passport. Facial recognition software compares the images through algorithms. “As time goes on,” Hyduchak says, “I think you are going to see digital facial checks become the standard for ID verification, and that will eliminate most types of fraud.”

What are the most pressing migration issues for data science?
By Desert Star Staff CAIRO, Jan. 2020 - The Governance Lab at New York University Tandon School of Engineering and its partners released the most pressing questions on migration that could be answered leveraging data and data science and asked the public to prioritize the order in which resources should be applied. The questions were curated through an innovative process of sourcing “bilinguals” – individuals who have both subject matter and data expertise. The list is the first batch of questions within The GovLab’s 100 Questions Initiative — an effort to identify the most important societal questions that can be answered by data. Other domains include gender, air quality, disinformation, and the future of work. Together with partner organizations International Organisation on Migration (IOM) and the European Commission’s Joint Data Research Centre, The GovLab Co-Founder and Chief Research and Development Officer Stefaan Verhulst unveiled the questions Sunday, January 19, at the Second International Forum on Migration Statistics, an international conference in Cairo. The top questions cover a wide range of topics, including migrant well-being, enforcement and security, and the vulnerabilities

of displaced people. “For data innovation to contribute to solving our challenges, we first need to have clear questions,” said Marzia Rango, research and data officer at IOM’s Global Migration Data Analysis Centre. “Through this work, we now have a greater understanding of where to collectively focus, from a data perspective.” “This work ensures we have a list of credible, validated, and compelling prompts to address through data science,” said Michele Vespe, project manager at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. Verhulst echoed these remarks: “Asking the right questions is essential to getting the most out of our datasets. It helps us understand what problems to focus our limited resources on.” The release coincides with the launch of a public voting campaign to prioritize the top questions. Through the initiative’s new online platform, anyone with an internet connection can now vote on what they consider to be the most pressing questions about migration that could be answered with increased access to data or through the use of data science. In addition to identifying key questions, The 100 Questions Initiative will also help create new data collaboratives. Data collaboratives are an emerging
form of public-private partnership that help unlock the public-interest value of previously siloed data. The GovLab has conducted significant research on the value of data collaboration, identifying that inter-sectoral collaboration can both increase access to information (for example, the vast stores of data held by private companies) as well as unleash the potential of that information to serve the public good. The 100 Questions Initiative was made possible with support from Schmidt Futures, Data2X, and the Bertelsmann Foundation. of the bilinguals involved in the project, Ettore Recchi, a professor of sociology at Sciences Po and part-time professor at the Migration Policy Centre of the European University Institute. “Such debates are in desperate need of evidence coming from solid, value-free, impartial studies. In turn, migration research is a vast field of unsystematic data collection that serves the public interest only limitedly. The 100 Questions Initiative has the potential to streamline migration studies, helping them address the really focal issues, systematize their findings, and thus bridge the gap between research, public opinion, and policies.”

Supporters of Youth Climate Lawsuit Not Deterred by Court Ruling
By Desert Star Staff The young people who took the federal government to court to force action on climate change say they’ll continue their battle, despite a federal court ruling against their 2015 lawsuit. As co-counsel for the plaintiffs, Phil Gregory says the judges agreed the youths brought compelling evidence that action is needed to prevent injuries from climate change. But the court ultimately ruled two-to-one that Congress or the executive branch, not the courts, are the places for action. Gregory finds the argument unconvincing, because young people who’ll be affected by climate change can’t vote and don’t have political power. “To say, ‘Oh, go to Congress, or go to the
executive branch and get them to do something,’ I mean, that’s just a hollow gesture, because the youth of America can’t do that,” Gregory states. Friday’s decision in the lawsuit -- Juliana v. United States -- reverses an earlier district court ruling that would have let the case go forward. Gregory says plaintiffs will file a petition for a rehearing before the full Ninth Circuit Court by the end of January, but the court isn’t required to consider it. Gregory says the 21 plaintiffs, now between ages 12 and 23, are seeking no monetary damages. Instead, they want a court order that the federal government address actions that cause global warming, such fossil fuel emissions that exacerbate the climate crisis. “What’s troubling is the

Supreme Court’s Citizens United Decision Turns Ten
Hundreds of grassroots groups have sprung up in the past decade to try and overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the case Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission. (Royalty Free Images) By Desert Star Staff SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Corporations and trade associations have poured almost a billion dollars, by some estimates, into American
elections since the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its Citizens United decision ten years ago next Tuesday. The court decision freed companies to make unlimited

New Year: Time to Review Your Meds
By Desert Star Staff It’s a new year and pharmacists say people should take time to reflect on the medications they’re using. An annual evaluation is especially important for older adults. One in four people age 65 and older takes five or more medications for chronic disease management. Rob Reinhardt, a pharmacist with Jackson Care Connect in Medford, says to complicate things more, folks often have multiple providers prescribing them medications. He says a specialist might prescribe www.desertstarweekly.com
you something that interacts badly with medication from your primary care physician. “And throw on top of that if you add in supplements or herbals or things like that that no one knows you’re taking other than you, you can really set yourself up for some serious interactions that can cause hospitalizations or worse,” Reinhardt states. Reinhardt says people can ask their local pharmacist to review their medications for free with them, and that pharmacists can identify which medications might interfere with each other or which they
recommend discontinuing. Jason Mallari, a pharmacist with CareOregon, says it’s important to ask questions, including what the medication plan is going forward. Will it be for a short time while a person changes his or her lifestyle or much longer? Mallari often sees someone who’s put on medication and stays on it without considering why. “What people forget is people change over time,” he points out. “People change not only because of time but also because of what you’re taking, what you’re eating, and January 22, 2020
group Public Citizen, says that has led to a system rigged to benefit the super-rich. “The top 25 donors are responsible for nearly half of all the individual contributions that have gone to super PACs since the Citizens United decision,” says Weissman. “So, we really are looking at an oligarchic situation.” Weissman says that means that issues that enjoy wide public support - like bills to prevent gun violence, lower prescription drug prices or fight climate change - have languished in Congress, as many lawmakers depend on funds from the gun lobby, and drug and energy companies. Supporters of the decision say it allows all corporations to have a voice in the political process, not just the ones with media empires. Senate Democrats have introduced a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. And the so you may have to evaluate those medications that you’re taking more often than you probably would think.” Reinhardt says patients can help pharmacists by telling them how they are feeling on certain medications, especially if they notice something after taking a new prescription. “That might help them give you some clues that, ‘Oh,

Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed the “For the People Act” to reform the rules on political donations. But Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to allow a vote, calling the bills a ploy to get more Democrats elected. Maryland Congressman John Sarbanes - D-Baltimore - says the House bill would be shot in the arm for democracy. “It requires disclosure of where dark money is coming from,” says Sarbanes. “It puts a cop on the beat by strengthening the Federal Election Commission. It puts new rules in place with respect to lobbyists and super PACs, and other measures.” The bill also would reform the campaign finance system, allowing candidates to get matching funds for small-donor donations, thus diluting the influence of special interests. Your work in the world will be guided and directed by promptings and impressions from above. You are to initiate new ideas: new possibilities creating new probabilities creating new outcomes, unreflective of the past. You will need to meet important people, then become one yourself. You will learn to act with humility while attaining great goals. Develop what is necessary to solidify these tasks. You’re the person for this job.
TAURUS It’s important to contact people afar concerning their health, welfare, family life, plans and future agendas. Keep in touch with family. The outer aspects of these interactions hide a deep spiritual purpose. With strength and calmness speak the truth of your aims and purposes; listen carefully to the other(s). Groups Sue to Stop Major Expansion of Fracking in Central CA

plan to open up more than a million acres of public land in Central California to drilling and fracking. The lawsuit claims the Bureau of Land Management
violated the National Environmental Protection Act - or NEPA - by disregarding the potential impact of the new wells on public health, air quality and climate change. January 22, 2020
Mark Rose, Sierra Nevada Program manager for the National Parks Association says the feds want to plow ahead anyway. “Throughout this process, BLM really ignored our comments and really, just pushed through this plan without looking at all the different impacts,” says Rose. “Not only on our national parks, but on some of the most impacted communities in the nation when it comes to air quality.” The lands in question stretch across Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Tulare and Ventura counties. The BLM recently announced it is lifting a moratorium on oil and gas leases in place since 2012, when a federal judge halted a similar plan over environmental concerns. The Trump administration is already working to undermine NEPA, by revising guidelines that currently
require the government to study a project’s longterm, cumulative impact on the environment. The administration’s view is that the U.S. needs to encourage more drilling, to create jobs and protect the nation’s energy independence. It’s an argument that Mark Rose rejects. “We are already dominating when it comes to our energy agenda,” says Rose. “And we don’t need additional acreage to be sold in environmental justice communities, or next door to national parks like Sequoia and Kings Canyon.” If a judge doesn’t block the Central California plan or a similar one that opens up drilling on public lands in the Monterey area - the BLM could start auctioning off leases in California within six months.

Warner Bros. ‘Goldfinch’ Now on DVD
The Warner Bros. film “The Goldfinch” is based on Donna Tartt’s 2013 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about how a young boy’s life is changed following a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York that kills his mother. As he runs from the museum following the blast, he takes a tiny painting of a goldfinch with him. After the tragedy, 13-yearold Theo Decker (Oakes Fegley) is taken in by his best friend’s family, who live on the Upper East Side. Nicole Kidman is his friend’s mom, who eventually learns to love him as if he were
her own son. Theo is happy, and all is well until his father (Luke Wilson) suddenly shows up with his girlfriend Xandra (Sarah Paulson) and reclaims him, unfortunately for Theo. He then is taken to Las Vegas, where he is befriended by Boris (Finn Wolfhard), who lives in Theo’s neighborhood with his Russian father. The two boys soon become pals and hang out together all the time. When Theo’s dad is killed in a car accident, Theo runs away and heads back to New York. Boris has promised to join him in a few days, but he never does. Theo grows up and
becomes a New York Art dealer working with a mentor he met as a youngster. The older Theo is now played by Ansel Elgort (“Baby Driver”). He loves his job and still has the painting of the goldfinch that he stole years earlier. Or does he? “The Goldfinch” was written by Peter Straughan and directed by John Crowly. “The Goldfinch,” rated R for drug use and language, has a running time of 149 minutes and is now available on DVD and Blu ray. The DVD featurettes are: “The Goldfinch Unbound” with commentary about the film from the
director and actors, “The Real Goldfinch” about the painting, and the art museum where it is located and deleted scenes.

Well, it’s that time of year. Time for the Oscar telecast, which will air Sunday, February 9, at 5 pm on ABC-TV. If you are planning to enter a betting contest at work or elsewhere, you probably already have a strong hunch about the outcome. If you watched the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild awards, you have another set of clues. Their picks in the Best Acting
categories were: Best Actor-Joaquin Phoenix “Joker.” Best Actress--Renee Zelwegger “Judy. Best Supporting Actor-Brad Pitt “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” and Laura Dern for Best Supporting Actress in “Marriage Story.” The nine nominees for Best Picture are: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Joker, Marriage Story, The Irishman, 1917, Ford vs. Ferrari, Little Women, Parasite, and Jo Jo Rabbit. My prediction is either Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or 1917, but your guess is as good as mine.
NASA asteroid warning: TWO huge space rocks to hurtle past Earth
By Desert Star Staff The new year brings with its new asteroid threats, with NASA warning of two close cosmic flybys in a single day following a busy festive period of Near Earth Object (NEO) approaches to our planet. The first NEO to buzz the Earth today is identified as 2020 AQ1 – and was only first spotted on January 11. Happily, the 755ft-diameter space rock screamed safely by us at roughly 2:54am EST, passing a mere 0.026 AU from Earth – 2.5 million miles from the planet’s core – at a speed of 61,500 miles per hour. The asteroid will head out into the Milky Way, but it is expected to make another loop around and come back www.desertstarweekly.com
this way on August 23, 2104. Were an object of that size and velocity to hit the Earth, it could level an entire city in seconds. Next up on Monday is 2013 DU, estimated to be up to 308 feet in diameter, travelling at a (relatively) paltry 14,226 mph, much slower than its earlier cosmic counterpart. It’s expected to pass the Earth at 9:19pm EST, at a safe distance of 0.083 AU or 3.5 million miles. The ESA has identified 21,655 NEO asteroids and 109 NEO comets, all of which pose a potential threat to our planet. However, as shown by space rocks like 2020 AQ1, which was only discovered less than two weeks ago, there are many more potential dangers lurking out there in space.

VA Anti-Tobacco Bills Aim to Keep Teens from Smoking
By Desert Star Staff RICHMOND, Va. -- Even as the Trump administration raised the age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21 last month, Virginia lawmakers have introduced three bills to make it even harder for teens to access tobacco products. The bills aim to increase the state cigarette tax six fold, ban the sales of all flavored tobacco products and create a statewide
retail licensing system. The bills’ cosponsor, Democratic Delegate Patrick Hope of Arlington, pointed out that raising the cigarette tax from 30 cents a pack - the second-lowest rate in the nation - to $1.80 would bring the tax up to the national average. “The data shows that by increasing tax by this amount, it would decrease the number of people that smoke,” Hope
said. “And in turn, it will reduce the access for youth to get their hands on cigarettes and become addicted.” Gov. Ralph Northam has proposed raising the cigarette tax by 30-cents a pack, but Hope said he doesn’t think that goes far enough. Almost 1 in 4 Virginia high school students uses tobacco in some form, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Another anti-tobacco plan that falls short, according to Hope, is the Trump administration’s ban on certain e-cigarette flavors. Hope said the number of Virginians who vape has exploded over the past four years, and this bill would outlaw all flavored tobacco products in the Commonwealth. “You really can’t sugarcoat this in any way - the industry
is flavoring these products to attract kids, and that is very harmful to them,” he said. “And so, what we’re doing is we have an outright flavored tobacco ban.” He added a bill to establish a tobacco retail licensing system would help ensure stores are keeping tobacco away from kids. Last fall, one person died and at least 30 reported lung injuries from using vaping products, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

NAMM, or National Association of Music Merchants, is a music products, professional audio and technology trade show that fills every conceivable square foot of the Anaheim Convention Center as well as several nearby hotels and concert venues. I have been attending the annual Winter NAMM Show since the early 1990s and I can’t recall an event as packed with enthusiastic attendees as I experienced this year. Along with some really cool new gear and musical instruments, the range of powerful performances unleashed from a diverse field of artists also helped make this a standout year. Every NAMM-goer has a different experience at the annual event. Here are highlights of my journey through this year’s show.

Jewish Federation Of The Desert Addresses Security Issues
Tree of Life, Bruce Landgarten, Stephen Weiss, Brad Orsini & Miles Berger By Pam Price Dangerous times call for prudent security measures, and the desert is no exception to this new imperative. The Jewish Federation of the Desert in Rancho Mirage presented a town hall-style meeting on January 16th introducing the Secure Community Network ( SNC), a nonprofit organization founded in 2004 as a central address serving the American Jewish Community by addressing matters of security, all-hazard preparedness, and response as it impacts community safety. Bruce Landgarten, the Federation’s Chief Executive Officer, addressed the group on current security issues in the desert, which became an even more relevant issue in the wake of the Oct. 27, 2018 massacre of 11 individuals at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. “The actions implied in the three words ‘Run, Hide, Fight’ save lives,” said Landgarten,” adding “it was proven 16 months ago when the Tree of Life Synagogue was the site of the worst antiSemitic attack on U.S. soil. As horrible as the attack on that Shabbat morning was, the security training given the leadership and members of the Pittsburgh Jewish community in the 18 months beforehand unquestionably saved lives.” Speaking on behalf of the SNC, Brad Orsini CEO presented a two-hour lecture describing security measures that have been implemented at Jewish institutions, synagogues, Jewish Community Centers, day school, and camps focused on thwarting future attacks. The implementation of these security measures has proven to become a “critical, proven partner for Jewish communities across the U.S. and a standard insurance policy for communities and executives in need. An example given by SCN is when the conflict in the Middle East heightens, or the terrorism level rises in the U.S. community leaders rely on SCN to keep them informed and assist while implementing necessary precautions to secure their facilities and people. To Create Dr. King’s Beloved Community
Volunteers on MLK Day focus on serving one another to help bridge divides and confront social problems, making the holiday “a day on, not a day off.” (Adobe Stock) By Desert Star Staff From young students to
business professionals, today, Missourians from all walks of
life will honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by giving
back to their communities. This is the 25th anniversary of MLK Day as a National Day of Service, which encourages Americans to observe the holiday as “a day on, not a day off.” Hundreds of service projects are scheduled, and Dr. Alisa Warren, executive director with the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, said they hope to emulate Dr. King’s legacy of peace, unity and service, to create what he called a ‘beloved community.’ “A community of love, where love overshadows hate and where, even though we’re all very different, we can learn from each other’s difference and grow as a community,” Warren said. “And so, his legacy really to all of us is to learn to serve one another.” Other events honoring Dr. King today in Missouri include
the Springfield Multicultural Festival and the Annual Freedom March in St. Louis, as well as prayer breakfasts, lectures, documentary viewings and unity walks. Warren said serving our neighbors is one of the first steps toward bridging divides and confronting social problems. And she’s encouraged by the way’s volunteers work to carry out Dr. King’s dream. “It seems right now sometimes, folks are feeling as though our society is getting cynical and maybe not as interested in working together for peace; when really, that couldn’t be farther from the truth,” she said. “People are very, very committed to his legacy.” Local volunteer opportunities can be found on the website MLKday.gov.
Another Legal Challenge Filed Over New Pork Processing Rules
By Desert Star Staff ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A federal lawsuit was filed this week over recent changes to how safety inspections are handled at pork processing plants. It follows a separate federal suit filed in Minnesota last fall. In 2019, the U.S. Department of Agriculture revised how inspections are handled at slaughterhouses by essentially handing most of those duties over to the companies themselves. Ryan Talbott, a staff attorney at Center for Food Safety, one of the plaintiffs in the latest lawsuit, says shifting that responsibility opens the door to food-borne illnesses. “It’s safe to say that once you have the slaughter plant employees, who have no mandatory minimum training or education requirements, taking on the roles of trained
federal inspectors -- this is a recipe for disaster,” he states. The USDA says the changes are intended to modernize the pork processing system. Many in the pork industry also support the changes, saying they will bring more efficiencies. Last fall, several labor unions filed a federal lawsuit in Minnesota over provisions that remove maximum line speeds when bringing hogs to slaughter. That suit contends the changes compromise worker safety, as well as food safety. Talbott says the threat to pork products sold in the U.S. would not be on a small scale. He says this could affect U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and his department have faced several lawsuits over a consumers in a big way. rollback of regulations for pork processing plants. Well-Being Disparities Persist for New Mexico’s Children
By Desert Star Staff ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- There is positive news for children in the annual data book released Wednesday by New Mexico Voices for Children. But the children’s advocacy group says significant improvements still are needed. The data book tracks child well-being from one year to the next, and found a slight improvement in child poverty rates in 2018. It also shows that child health insurance rates and preschool attendance have improved over time. Teen birth rates continued to decline, according James Jimenez, executive director, New Mexico Voices for Children, who says that indicator is important to watch. “A trend that has been www.desertstarweekly.com
moving in the right direction for many years now, and although we still rank fairly low -- 44th -- it’s certainly moving in the right direction,” he states. Overall the data book shows that 26% of the state’s children in 2018 remained at or below the federal poverty line, which made New Mexico 49th in the nation, a change from 48th place the year before. The report found that even more Hispanic children -- 30% -- were living in poverty, while the percentage of Native American children was still higher at 41%. While the state as a whole saw a larger share of children living in high poverty areas, the rate worsened most dramatically for black children, rising from 20%
by 2016 to 26% in 2017. Jimenez argues that New Mexico is not adequately providing opportunities for children of color. “And it’s really evident to us that if we are going to make sure that New Mexico thrives in the future, we really have to be a lot more intentional about ensuring that we are addressing the conditions that children of color are living in in our state,” he stresses. At the same time, Jimenez notes that Hispanic and Native American youth have seen the biggest improvements in high school graduation rates. He adds that Voices for Children would like to see lawmakers improve tax policies for working families during the 2020 legislative session January 22, 2020
that begins next week. “So we hear all the time that politicians saying children are our future, they are our most important asset, but if you look at our budget, it’s not reflected in the way that we make tax policy,” he states. Voices for Children would also like to see lawmakers pass common sense, gun
safety legislation, and increase funding for the state’s behavioral health system. Disclosure: New Mexico Voices for Children/KIDS COUNT contributes to our fund for reporting on Budget Policy & Priorities, Early Childhood Education, Human Rights/ Racial Justice, Poverty Issues.

Pelosi announces impeachment managers, House votes to send articles to Senate
By Desert Star Staff House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has named the House Democrats who will serve as seven impeachment managers – or prosecutors outlining the case – in the Senate trial of President Donald Trump. The case against Trump will be led by California Rep. Adam Schiff, who, as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, led the initial impeachment inquiry against Trump. House Judiciary chair Rep. Jerry Nadler (NY) will act as Schiff’s second in command. A longtime opponent of Trump, Nadler’s committee, drafted the articles of impeachment following Schiff’s inquiry. Democratic Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA), Hakeem Jeffries (NY), Val Demings (FL), Jason Crow (CO), and Sylvia Garcia (TX) were also named as managers. All have a legal background, and Pelosi told reporters that her emphasis was on choosing “litigators, the emphasis is on the comfort level in the courtroom.” Schiff and Nadler reiterated their argument that Trump must be removed from office,
in the face of “overwhelming evidence” he is “trying to rig” next year’s election, in the words of Nadler. Following Pelosi’s announcement, the House voted along the party lines to send the articles of impeachment – charging Trump with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress – to the Senate. , and the managers will ceremonially walk the two articles to the other side of the Congress building. The impeachment effort against Trump centers on allegations that he pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reopen a corruption investigation into the family of Joe Biden – a frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic nomination. Democrats have cited a July phone call between Trump and Zelensky as evidence of this, as well as testimony from a host of secondhand witnesses to the call. Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart have denied any impropriety, with Trump accusing the Democrats of running a “witch hunt” against him.
Pelosi withheld the articles from the Senate for a month in a bid to pressure Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to accept her terms for the trial, and as Democrats scrambled to secure further witnesses and testimony from White House insiders, including former National Security Advisor John Bolton. This led to derision from Republicans, given that Democrats cited the need for speedy impeachment last month, calling Trump a “clear and present danger”
to the United States. Faced with a Republican motion to dismiss the trial, Pelosi folded and announced last week that the articles would be sent. Mcconnell’s terms – based on the 1998 impeachment trial of Bill Clinton – accepted. Though the impeachment case is about Ukraine, Pelosi saw fit to resurrect the longdisproven allegations of Trump’s ‘Russian collusion.’ “Voters in American should decide who our president is, not Vladimir Putin,” she
told reporters on Wednesday without offering any context. The Republican-controlled Senate is expected to acquit Trump. None of the upper House’s 53 Republicans have voiced support for removing the president from office, and a two-thirds majority is required to oust Trump. Perhaps anticipating this, Pelosi said that the case against Trump, regardless of its outcome, is “an impeachment that will last forever.”

Women are rated as ‘less human’ when they wear a lot of makeup
By Desert Star Staff Peter Andrews is an Irish science journalist and writer based in London. He has a background in the life sciences and graduated from the University of Glasgow with a degree in Genetics. Those who like their foundation heavy maybe a little disturbed by a new study that shows that they are perceived as less human and not taken seriously under the layers of makeup. But what if that’s the desired effect? In the study, 1,000 participants, mostly from
14
DesertSTAR
America and the United Kingdom, were asked to evaluate women’s faces with or without heavy makeup. Most participants reported as heterosexual, and the sample included women as well as men. Both men and women perceived heavily made-up women’s faces as possessing less humanness, less agency, less experience, less competence, less warmth, and less morality than faces without makeup. Please tell us what you think! The results were the same whether they looked
at photographs of models or ordinary women. Furthermore, eye shadow had a stronger dehumanizing effect than lipstick. Scientific proof then, that the au naturel look is best? Makeup is all about signs of fertility — whatever feminists say The research comes from the Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium and the Subtle Prejudice Lab at the University of NebraskaLincoln. Previous research from the same team had concluded that women posed suggestively in lingerie are also dehumanized; that is, they are attributed to less agency, competence, and morality. This is less surprising– striking a sexy pose in lingerie is not the way to go if you want men to think of you more as a strong and independent woman, and less an inanimate object to be admired. But makeup is not so different–it is just another, perhaps more commonplace tool women use to enhance their appearance. And, of course, women wear makeup, dye their hair, and bare their skin to appear more attractive to potential partners, not for the sake of some vague self-empowerment, which in any case would depend on social norms of beauty. But fuller red lips, bigger eyes with larger pupils (an effect created by eye shadow) longer eyelashes, flushed January 22, 2020
cheeks–these are no social norms, but rather ancient signifiers of fertility. Men are hyper-attuned to reading these subtle signals of face and body. This, of course, does not mean that women are continually seeking male attention, much less attempting to attract a new male partner. If you ask women why they do these things, they will, and truthfully, tell you “to look nice.” It just so happens that eons of sexual selection have forged the parameters for ‘nice.’ Drawing the line So the question becomes, do women deliberately make themselves less ‘human’ if that makes them an exaggerated symbol of attraction?
Essentially, ‘dolling up,’ to use a phrase that is commonly uttered, without thinking about the implications. Or are they slathering on too much makeup, until even the targets of their interest no longer recognize them as belonging to the same species? Whichever it is, it is best to stay on the conservative side when going for a job interview, or other official function, the study’s authors counsel; they recommend minimal makeup, or none at all. You don’t want to be perceived as a floozy or an exotic bird. That’s, of course, assuming that you don’t want the hiring manager to be subconsciously attracted to you.

By Melinda Myers You love them both – your pets and houseplants – but it can be challenging to safely raise them together in the same house. Reduce the risk by selecting pet-safe plants and safely managing houseplant pest problems. Avoid problems by selecting plants suited to your home’s growing conditions and gardening style. Then narrow the list further to plants that are non-toxic specifically to the type of pets you own. Consult with your veterinarian and visit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) website for a list of petsafe and toxic plants. Create a list of all the plants you are growing. Include both common and botanical names for accurate identification. Do a bit of research on the care they need and their toxicity to your pets. If you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic plant, you’ll have the proper plant name when contacting your veterinarian. Match the pet-friendly plants you select to their preferred light conditions. An east- or west-facing window provides enough light for most indoor plants. Keep those that need brighter light within two feet of the window. Those that prefer lower light can be grown near a northfacing window or up to six feet back or off to the side of an east- or west-facing window. For low light situations, consider cast iron plant, Lady
palm, and parlor palm or add artificial lights when growing other pet-friendly plants in lower light conditions. Grow grape ivy, spider plants, baby tears (Soleirolia), peperomias, prayer-plants, Boston ferns, ponytail palm, and hoyas in brighter locations. Save the brightest spots for Norfolk Island Pine, lipstick plant, and haworthia. Add some color to your indoor garden with popular flowering plants like an African violet, Christmas cactus, and moth orchid. These are also listed as non-toxic on the ASPCA website. Water plants thoroughly as needed. Tropical plants prefer slightly moist soil, while cacti and succulents like it drier. Always pour off any excess water that collects in the saucer. Allowing plants to sit in water can increase the risk of disease and lead to root rot. Regularly groom and wipe the dust off the leaves of your indoor plants to help reduce the risk of insect damage. Remove spotted leaves when they appear and adjust watering. This is often enough to correct fungal disease problems. When pest problems require control, always select pet-friendly options. Start with a strong blast of water to dislodge pests like aphids and mites. Follow with an application of a lightweight horticulture oil such as Summit Year-Round Spray Oil (SummitResponsibleSolutions. com). This organic spray controls aphids, mites,

States Struggling with Medical-Marijuana Oversight
By Desert Star Staff The Minnesota Health Department says it’s taking steps to improve oversight of the state’s medical marijuana program. That’s after an audit found multiple failures. The Office of the Legislative Auditor issued a report this month saying, among other things, the health department had poor record-keeping for parent and guardian eligibility. It also said regulators didn’t verify all new patients’ doctors were licensed and in good standing. Morgan Fox of the National Cannabis Industry Association said these kinds of problems are counterproductive, especially for a program that’s already limited. “There are extreme license caps in place that prevent the industry from really flourishing and having
good competition,” Fox said. Since it was approved in 2014, Minnesota has had one of the more restrictive medical marijuana programs in the country. However, an expansion will take effect this year - including in the number of access points for medication. Meanwhile, health officials say they agree with the findings and are implementing fixes. In 2018, the state of Oregon reported similar oversight problems for its program. Fox said when a state encounters challenges or success with cannabis programs, other states should take notice while developing their own oversight plans - especially as there are more potential law changes on the horizon for 2020. “This year, we should
At the end of 2019, state health officials say Minnesota’s medical marijuana program had more than 18,000 patients. (Thomas Hawk/Flickr) expect to see legislation passed in at least one if not more states passing medical cannabis laws, as well as the potential for more states passing
adult-use laws,” he said. In Minnesota, there’s support from Democrats in the House and Gov. Tim Walz for legalization of marijuana for recreational use. But the
idea faces opposition from Senate Republicans. Nearly a dozen states already have passed such laws, and 33 states have approved medical-marijuana programs.
Ozzy Osbourne Reveals He Has Parkinson’s Disease
NBC PS News Staff Ozzy Osbourne has gone public with his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. In an interview with Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America,” which
aired Tuesday, the legendary rocker shared the news with his wife Sharon at his side. The 71-year-old musician said revealing his illness was like a weight being lifted. “I feel better now
that I’ve owned up to the fact that I have a case of Parkinson’s,” he said. “And I just hope (my fans) hang on and they’re there for me because I need them.” Osbourne has had a
number of issues since last year, including a severe infection and a fall he said led to him having the “worst” year of his life. “When I had the fall it was pitch black,” he said. “I went to the bathroom and I fell.” Osbourne said he “just fell and landed like a slam on the floor.” “I remember lying there thinking, ‘Well, you’ve done it now.’ Really calm,” he said. “Sharon got me an ambulance. After that, it was all downhill.” He said he’s been recovering for almost a year now. “Next month, a year,” Osbourne said “Worst, longest, most painful, miserable year of my life.” There’s been plenty of speculation about the musician’s health since he postponed his
concert dates last year. According to Roberts, Osbourne wanted to go public with his struggles given recent headlines that he was in failing health and “on his deathbed.” His wife, talk show cohost Sharon Osbourne, said the rocker suffers from “PRKN 2, which is a form of Parkinson’s.” “There’s so many different types of Parkinson’s,” she said. “It’s not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body. It’s like you have a good day, a good day and then a really bad day.” Ozzy Osbourne said he’s undergoing treatment for the disease and said fans shouldn’t count him out. “I ain’t done yet,” he said. “I ain’t gonna go anywhere yet.” Source: NBC Palm Springs
Trump rejects environmental ‘prophets of doom’ in Davos speech
By Desert Star Staff US President Donald Trump openly rejected environmental “prophets of doom and their predictions of the apocalypse” as mere alarmists seeking absolute power in his Davos speech on Tuesday. “They are the heirs of yesterday’s foolish fortune tellers,” Trump added, saying similar previous predictions of environmental doom included the overpopulation fear of the 1960s and ‘peak oil’ concerns in the 1990s. These alarmists always demand the same thing – absolute power to dominate, transform & control every aspect of our lives.
