A Play About the Movies, by playwright Vanessa Claire Stewart playing now, though June 29th By Theda Kleinhans Reichman Modern film comedies stand on the worthy shoulders of silent film stars like Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton, who, without technicolor or sound, made audiences laugh out loud. Now, though June 29th only, the Pasadena Playhouse presents “Stoneface,” based on the career highs and lows of film legend, Buster Keaton. According to Jaime Robledo,
director of “Stoneface, “Buster Keaton, born Joseph Frank Keaton, began his career literally being tossed around the stage as a child for the amusement of audiences. His ability to endure the knocks, take the pain and come back for more would be his calling card throughout his life. With the guidance of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, he helped invent the language of comedic cinema and became an icon on
par with his rivals Chaplin and Lloyd.” “Stoneface,” by playwright Vanessa Claire Stewart, is a theatrical love letter written for her husband French Stewart, who plays Keaton on stage. In the program, she thanks her husband for “being the perfect muse.” Before penning “Stoneface,” originally for Sacred Fools Theater Company, Vanessa co-wrote and starred
as Keely Smith at the Geffen Playhouse in “Louis & Keely Live at the Sahara.” She brings the same verve and style to her play “Stoneface” which hopefully will move from Pasadena to Broadway. The time frame of the play is between 1921 and 1952 and takes place in various locations around Hollywood. The scenic design by Joel Daavid is enhanced by projection
designers Ben Rock and Anthony Backman. The original music was composed by Ryan Johnson, who is the pianist in the play. “Stoneface,” which details great highs and cavernous lows in Keaton’s career and marriages, is often brought to life with comedic scenes reminiscent of a Keaton silent movie. Owning a Business can Help You and Your Children By Janice Gough Owning a family business offers many benefits when we involve our children. Growing up in a business, while your parents build their business is an education, sometimes not offered until you go to college. Children get to learn firsthand, how to manage others, how to work alongside them, and how each job serves to build the success of the business. There are many tax advantages one can take when having your children work for you. By shifting income from yourself to your kid, you will eliminate the federal tax from your income, by at least 35%, and more than

cover, the Social Security tax imposed on earned income. A child with no investment income pays 0 percent tax on the first $6,100 of earned income. By combining this strategy with establishing a kiddie ROTH I.R.A., more taxes are reduced. If the parent has maxed out their ROTH I.R.A. contribution, they can offer to match contributions to their child’s plan, offering another tax deduction to the parent. This would not affect their ability to qualify for the Federal Student Aid program. An I.R.A. account can give your child the opportunity to learn about saving and investing, provide them with a $10,000 tax-free withdrawal for their first home, and build an educational fund. It will grow tax-sheltered, while benefiting from compounding interest. Your child can use this money to their advantage throughout their lifetime to solve life challenges and hold it to age 70 1/2, when they must take required annual distributions. College students working in a family business are eligible for the American Opportunity Tax Credit ($2,500 a year for four years of post secondary education). Parents cannot claim
this deduction. If your child earns enough income, they may be able to escape the kiddie tax on gifts of appreciated securities. Together, these strategies can give you kids a get-rich boost: lower income taxes, avoid a tax hit on investment gains, help to reduce college expenses, and provide a head start on taxadvantaged savings. Other costly expenses which a parent may pay, such as health, dental, critical illness, long-term care, and life insurance can be deducted from the
business income before tax. The payroll taxes paid by the employee and employer are sometimes discounted. However, by having your child on a payroll, you are protecting them from loss of income from work-related injuries; you are helping them accumulate their social security credits, and providing protection in case of disability with State Disability Insurance. Furthermore, if something happens with the business, they will receive income continuation with unemployment insurance.
Further deductions can be taken by the business as the child becomes more valuable to the business, such as Key Man life insurance and buys/ Sell agreements funded with life insurance. By Kelly G. Richardson, Esq. CCAL Dear Kelly: This week, many of you have purchased airline tickets, paid bills, and even registered for traffic school using your cellular phone, tablet or computer. If you are a member of various non-profit organizations, from churches to private schools, from associations of Realtors® to unions, you may have also cast a vote electronically. One of the more interesting anomalies in current California corporate law is that under the Corporations Code, ALMOST any corporation can vote via the internet or other electronic means, so long as members have the opportunity to opt out and use a written ballot. However, HOAs cannot do so, because the Davis-Stirling Common Interest Development Act requires that votes only be by secret written ballot (Civil Code 5115), which means electronic voting is illegal for California common interest development associations. For small associations, this may not be a problem, since
elections are less costly and it is easier to contact neighbors and collect ballots. However, larger associations commonly struggle with participation, and often cannot manage the logistics of “knocking on doors” to ask members to participate. Larger communities often spend thousands of dollars on mailers, only to have meetings fail for lack of quorum-requiring the association to send yet another mailer to all the members, asking for ballots to be returned. The Act now acknowledges many ways in which an association or its members can choose to receive communications electronically-annual disclosures, specific notices, and other announcements (Civil Code 4035(b)(1), 4040(a)(2), and 4055, for example). However, that “green” and economical approach is prohibited with HOA ballots. Instead of receiving an electronic ballot, logging into a secure voting site, and then casting a ballot without stepping away from the desk (or smart phone or tablet), HOA members must expend paper and postage. Yet, all other non-profits can have electronic voting. Assembly Bill 1360, authored by former Assemblyperson (now Senator) Torres, would give associations the option to offer the choice of electronic voting to members. The bill is sponsored by the Community Associations Institute, and if passed as written would place
requirements on electronic voting providers which are not required of other corporations, making the security of votes for your homeowners board much more stringent than all other non-profit corporations. For example, such providers would have to have liability insurance and have no connection to the association management or the members. The voting system would have to give the voter a receipt, protect their identity and transmit the data to the Inspectors of Election in a secure manner. The bill passed easily through the Assembly, but progress was slowed in the Senate when the Secretary of State announced her opposition to electronic HOA voting. The bill’s next step is a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on June 24. Read the bill, and decide for yourself if it would help your HOA, at www.leginfo.legislature.ca.gov. Search for AB1360, and click on the “Todays Law As Amended” tab to see exactly how the bill
would change existing law. You can use the “Comments to Author” tab to send comments to the author, or you can forward them to HOA Homefront, and I’ll make sure they get to the Committee (if sent before June 24). There are various pending bills regarding drought and other important issues, but these seemingly technical bills can have a great impact for many years. Kelly G. Months Long Sewer Project Underway in Palm Desert By Wesley Rossenrode PALM DESERT, Ca. -Starting Monday, one lane of northbound Monterey Avenue will be closed roughly between Hovley Lane West and Sagewood Drive as part of a Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) sewer rehabilitation project. The Monterey Lane closure will be in place 24 hours a day through early next year. It is needed to ensure sewer service is not disrupted to nearby residents and businesses during rehabilitation of 3 miles of sewer line in Palm Desert. Also starting next week, intermittent lane closures will begin on sections of Portola Avenue and Hovley Lane East in front of James Carter Elementary School. Sewer pipeline rehabilitation work is starting in this area to ensure traffic is back to normal before school starts in the fall. This section is expected to be completed by mid-August. This is the second phase of a sewer project that began
in August 2013 when severe deterioration was discovered in the sewer line under Cook Street. The entire 3.5 miles of the sewer line was surveyed and discovered to be in varying degrees of deterioration. The most damaged section on Cook Street has already been replaced. Further work must now be completed on Monterey Avenue, Hovley Lane West, Portola Avenue, Hovley Lane east, Corporate Way and 42nd Avenue. The total project is expected to be completed early next year. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when driving past construction zones. CVWD appreciates everyone’s patience while the work is being performed. Lane closures will not adversely affect entrances into area businesses and residences. Lane closure updates for this project will be posted at www. cvwd.org/pdsewer.
Les Sins, MANIK, Plastic Plates, Purity Ring, Sango, Sweater Beats and Toro y Moi. “We had about 1,500 people last year,” said Tyler McLean, copromoter of the event, adding they expect double the attendees this year. Four Homes Damaged After Fire in Trailer Park
Graffiti Found on PS Hiking Trail
By Wesley Rossenrode PA L M SPRINGS, Ca.-Residents have been sounding off on social media, angry about finding graffiti on a popular hiking trail in Palm Springs. Hikers John Moore and
Ryan Cummings discovered the vandalism on Sunday, while hiking the Lykken Trail. The taggers used orange, white, and green paint to create large footprints and the words “step by step” on a cliff overlooking the valley.
By Gitzel Puente PALM SPRINGS, Ca. -At least four homes were damaged in a senior mobile home park in Palm Springs last Thursday morning. A home caught on fire inside “Ramon Park” on Ramon Road and Sunrise Way around 3:30 a.m. and the smoke spread to several units. Only debris is left of two homes, and others are uninhabitable. Some residents who were displaced are now staying at a Motel 6 with the help
of the Red Cross. One of residents affected by the fire said he made it to safety in the knick of time. “I came outside and that place was just blazing, it got so hot so quick that I barely got my dad out, he’s 88 years old,” said Sixto Pinon. He said it was a devastating sight, but he’s glad he and his father are alive. The manager of the trailer park is trying to open a bank account for the residents affected by the fire. Moore and Cummings are working with other residents to find a safe way to remove the graffiti without damaging the environment. Right now they’re working with the city of Palm Springs to find a solution.

By Desert Star Staff With so much talk of drug use in America, you may not realize that some of the most potentially dangerous drugs are sitting right in many home medicine cabinets. More people die daily from prescription painkiller overdoses than from heroin and cocaine combined,
according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Driving the problem is availability, as enough painkillers are prescribed annually to medicate every American adult around the clock for one month, according to the CDC And in many of these cases,
the pills are not a necessary treatment to manage pain, say experts, as safer alternatives are available. “Prescription painkillers are often prescribed when safer medications could be used. Unfortunately, long-term use of opioid painkillers, such as OxyContin or Vicodin, can lead to addiction that patients never intended to have,” says National Safety Council Medical Advisor, Dr. Don Teater, who is also the Medical Director of Mountain Area Recovery Center. This June, which is National Safety Month, patients can become advocates for their own safety, says Teater. He recommends the following tips to reduce danger and increase safety for anyone prescribed a prescription painkiller: Talk to your Doctor Are non-opioid painkiller alternatives a possibility for you? Talk with your doctor about your options, including over-the-counter possibilities.
By Gitzel Puente PALM SPRINGS, Ca. -Monday morning, Obama and the First Lady departed Palm Springs International Airport a few minutes before they were scheduled to leave. Although there were no
officials to send them off, security at the airport was tight with secret service, the Riverside Sheriff’s Department and Palm Springs Police Department. President Obama, the First Lady and their oldest
daughter, Malia, spent Father’s Day weekend at Thunderbird Heights in Rancho Mirage. The President arrived Friday evening with Michelle Obama, then left early Saturday morning to give a commencement speech at

If an opioid is still prescribed, request the lowest dose possible for the shortest duration. Make sure your doctor knows about all other medications and drugs you take and about how much alcohol you consume. Safe Habits Know how long the medicine will be in your body, whether and when you can drive, and what other limitations will affect your routine. Avoid mixing opioid drugs with alcohol, sleeping pills and antianxiety medications. Opioid medications should be kept in a locked container or locking medicine cabinet so that only the patient has access to them. Nearly 70 percent of people who misuse prescription medicines report getting the drugs or taking them without asking from friends or family members, according to a survey from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Safe Disposal Done with your treatment? Never save leftover opioids for later use, and never give them away. Doing so can risk the medication getting into the wrong hands or being used for recreational purposes. Just be sure that when you do dispose of medications, you do so properly. Take-back programs and other community safety events allow the public to bring unused drugs to a central location for proper disposal, and many pharmacies offer mail-back programs. If these services are not easily accessible for you, you can go online to learn about safe medication disposal options. More safety tips and facts can be found at the National Safety Council website at www. nsc.org. This National Safety Month, take steps to learn more about the prescriptions you take, and their possible consequences. (StatePoint)

Imitate them, acting “as if.” An inner preparation is taking place. Your mind and heart are being made new.

The benefits are enormous.
The focus of change continues to be finances, resources and possessions. It’s important to ask yourself what’s of value in your life. It’s important also to tend to money and resources with great care and consideration. Perhaps you’re asking what are all your resources for? You have many. List them. Then share them. Do this now. Sharing is the new economy. Aquarians are to bring it forth first. We are given to, so we can give to others. Then the supply continues unceasingly.
Pisces Everything’s being ‘cleared for action!’ Slowly and surely things are continuing their completion cycle from the past many years. Anything not finished or concluded will seek your attention. This occurs so, at a later date, you can begin a new way of life. The energy presently available is only for completing past projects, not for beginnings. Not yet. Sullivan Solar Power Hosts Solar Luncheon for Residents to Learn More
By Desert Star Staff (Palm Desert, Calif.) June 17, 2014 – High temperatures mixed with high energy bills and eco-minded property owners makes the Coachella Valley an oasis for the solar industry. Despite the popularity of solar in the desert, several obstacles have prevented the entire valley
from going solar including high credit score requirements and the large upfront cost associated with energy upgrades. A new government initiative in Coachella Valley known as the Clean Energy CV Upgrade program breaks down the financial barriers to going solar. Launched December 2013 by
Ygrene Energy Fund, the Clean Energy CV Upgrade program enables property owners to go solar with no money upfront, repay annually through their property taxes, and receive tax credit. There is no credit score requirement and the loan is easily transferrable. “The ability for property

Thanks for the Memories, The Follies Finale By Pamela Price The collective costumes, props, tap shoes, hats and feathered headgear that defined the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies performing for 23 years at the vintage Plaza Theatre in the heart of downtown. The last of the flamboyant costumes and elaborate ephemera were tagged and reduced to 50 percent, by the time I arrived at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Sunday morning, June 14. The entry fee of $5 was donated to the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, and volunteers set up shop collecting cash only. It was as organized as it was nostalgic. As I perused rolls of sparkling sequins, bolts of flamboyant fabrics and hats in all shapes and sizes, I remembered well that I hadn’t missed a Follies performance since its debut in 1992. My mother relished each season as she relived her past through the music of her bygone days, especially the 1940s and World War II, I always noticed a tear in her eye. She was mesmerized by the stunning costumes, and of course, the dry humor of Riff Markowitz the producer ( he referred to himself as the ‘Follies Man’ who “ had
not missed a single show since its 1992 premier.” My mother told me that she always felt like a VIP at the Follies. She once had a front-row seat, sitting on a comfortable pillow that a dedicated volunteer usher never failed to leave for her. The Follies had a following because fans who were more like family. No trip to Palm Springs was complete until you attended an afternoon or evening performance of The Follies. As collectors and fashion fans perused the countless gowns, plumed hats (including a fez and a cowboy hat, I purchased for a paltry $8) I knew I had walked away with a thin slice of Palm Springs history. When the Follies came to town Palm Springs was not the Mecca of Modernism and classy casinos it is today. The Palm Springs International Festival was putting down its roots. The Convention Center had not yet opened, and summers were as quiet as desert turtle hibernating for the summer. The Follies, on the other Jani Naber hand, took off like a rocket. It opened to a questioning audience yet proved to be a smash hit. That signaled nonstop traffic with Within three years, the Follies fans arriving by the busload, air was on the cover of Palm Springs and auto. Magazine ( October 1997)and it. Part of the collection was donated to the Palm Springs Historical Society. Purdy said other items might be found at a local resale store. Then he introduced me to Joni Naber n now 77 years old, a dancer with the Follies for 8 years. With a smile on her face, she said she planned ahead before the Follies closed. You’ll find her at the Palm Springs Historical Society and possibly as an international hostess at the Palm Springs International Airport. The legacy of the desert’s beloved follies will live on in the
hearts of the cast, volunteers, and friends. What a remarkable 23 year run it was. As Marilyn Will of Palm Springs commented as she left with a stash of souvenirs, from posters to a stunning harem inspired costume, “The Follies was better than Broadway and Las Vegas for many locals and tourists; the choreography, marvelous guest stars from Donald O’Conner to Lesley Gore and camaraderie symbolized my era, that is now ‘gone with the wind’. Being in the audience brought laughter, smiles and more. Knowing that the cast was well into their 50s and beyond was an inspiration. I will treasure it all.”

Walter Trout, Mindi Abair, Janiva Magness Celebrate the Blues
The blues continue to be relevant thanks to modern-day proponents, including Walter Trout, Mindi Abair and Janiva Magness, all of whom have just issued some of the strongest discs of their careers. Artist: Walter Trout Album: The Blues Came Callin’ (Provogue) You might like if you enjoy: Joe Bonamassa, John Mayall Tell me more: No need to relegate blues to a museum. Not as long as proponents such as Walter Trout have something to say about it. On the master s i n g e r- s o n g w r i t e r- g u i t a r virtuoso’s new album “The Blues Came Callin’,” Trout kicks off the disc with a heart-wrenching look
at his fight for life on the searing “Wastin Away” (he received a life-saving liver transplant in May 2014, but faces a long recovery), while later he has plenty to say about the crazy state of affairs today via “The World Is Goin’ Crazy (And So Am I),” and ultimately, the power of love (“Nobody Moves Me Like You Do”). Across the dozen-track album, Trout unleashes some of the most fervent guitar work of his distinguished career (just listen to his blazing solos on “Willie” and “The Blues Came Callin’”), while his top-tier vocals add emotional depth to his original songcraft. Indeed when “The Blues Came Callin’,” Trout answered. Big time. Information: WalterTrout.com.
Artist: Mindi Abair Album: Wild Heart (Heads Up/Concord) You might like if you enjoy: Trombone Shorty, Gregg Allman, Joe Perry, Keb’ Mo’ Tell me more: Although saxophone player Mindi Abair has explored a number of styles (jazz, funk, soul, R&B, pop and rock) on previous releases, her aptly-titled new album “Wild Heart” finds the Florida native adding a strong dose of blues to the mix. The loose instrumental “Amazing Game” (where Abair’s work on alto, tenor and baritone saxophones is enhanced by Trombone Shorty’s work on his horn) is the first of a number of tracks that features high-profile guests. Elsewhere, she teams with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry
on the rousing instrumental “Kick Ass” and with Keb’ Mo’ and Booker T. Jones on the tender blues tune “I’ll Be Your Home.” “Wild Heart” also lets Abair show off her strong soprano on several tracks, including the bluestinged rocker “I Can’t Lose” and infectious “Train,” as well as the decidedly beautiful “Just Say When” where she is joined by singer-Hammond B3 great Gregg Allman. Information: MindiAbair. com. Artist: Janiva Magness Album: Original (Fathead Records) You might like if you enjoy: Ruthie Foster, Bettye LaVette Tell me more: On her latest LP, noted blues singer Janiva
Magness lays it all on the table. Whether singing of loss (“Let Me Breathe,” “When You Were My King”) or survival (“I Need A Man,” “Everything Is Alright”), Magness sings with a potency and force that fully binds the rich textures of electric and folk blues, Americana, R&B and even Stax-styled soul together into a luxuriant tapestry. Having overcome a number of recent challenges (including surgery in December 2012 that left Magness unable to speak for several weeks), the power of Magness’ vocal performances on ballads such as “Mountain” and blues rockers like “Who Am I” is even more impressive. By Jones, Hope and Wooten The Futrelle Sisters are in trouble again. This time, the problem is bigger than ever: their beloved hometown, Fayro, Texas, is in danger of disappearing, and it’s up to the sisters to save it from extinction. Ever since the Super SmartMart and the rendering plant closed, folks have been leaving Fayro in droves, but Honey Raye (Kathy Taylor-Smith), with a major assist from her former nemesis, Geneva Musgrave (Poppy Reybin), has come up with a possible solution. It seems a salsa manufacturing factory is looking forward to relocating, and a company representative is headed to Fayro on a scouting mission. Honey Raye, as the president of the Chamber of Commerce, makes promises that are not to be believed in order to woo the rep to choose Fayro. In fact, Honey Raye has told them that on the very weekend of the rep’s visit, the town just happens to be having their biggest celebration of the year: ‘Fayro Days, which includes a craft show, a pet costume parade, a beauty pageant and a huge Civil War battle reenactment. So now it’s up to the citizens of Fayro to quickly make her promises a reality. T h e b i g g e s t h u rd l e
to impressing the salsa representative is staging a Civil War battle reenactment with only fifteen participants. Added to this is the dilemma of Twink (Kitty Garascia) being so desperate to get married that she’s practically dragging the unwilling groom, Deputy John Curtis Buntner (Peter Nicholson), to the altar. Even so, this pales next to the financial problems, the preacher and his wife are having - unless you don’t consider gambling away your mobile home a problem. Frankie (Daniela Ryan), however, seems to have it worst of all, what with her husband, Dub (Hal O’Connell) going through a major mid-life crisis at the same time her five-year-old twins are literally tearing up the town. And unfortunately for all of them, the ‘meanest woman in twelve counties, Dub’s wicked, old Aunt Iney (Alden West) is on her way for a visit. Iney’s arrival in Fayro is definitely cause for alarm for the sisters; but it’s nothing compared to their panic when the old girl drops dead in the Dubberly home just before the salsa rep shows up. But how the Futrelle sisters and the other citizens of Fayro, including sweet, simple, Raynerd Chisum (Don Cilluffo) pull together and save their town is a testament to Southern strength and

s p o rt s A Baseball Power Surge In Palm Springs High School Sports By Daniel Marinelli
Palm Springs – Now that the high school baseball season has come to a close, the three-time defending Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL) champions Palm Springs Power baseball club is just getting into the swing of things. After Sunday’s collective onehitter against the SoCal Halos, the scorching hot Power are now 12-1, however, is a game behind Team San Diego in the SCCBL because of an insufficient amount of games played. Including the Power and San Diego, the SCCBL is composed of five teams – the High Desert Heat, the Inland Valley Bucs and Inland Valley Pirates. Power manager Harry Gurley will be looking for his fourth straight SCCBL championship in five years of coaching the Palm Springs team. In 29 at-bats, Texas Wesleyan’s Jake Howeth leads the dynastic Power with a .615 AVG, 8 doubles. 3 triples and 16 RBIs. BYU’s Hayden Nielsen is fourth on the team in batting at .415, but leads the team in atbats with 41, and hits with 17. The now-perennial league favorite power plays every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night, from June to the end of July. Except for June 23 at the Bucs, and July 14 at Team San Diego, the Power play every game at Palm Springs Stadium. General admission tickets for the 5, 185-person stadium are
only eight dollars. Seniors and Students can purchase tickets at a bargain price for seven and six dollars, respectively. The hospitable Power also gives free admission, with ID, to all active fire, police, EMS and military personnel. In addition to regular admission, the club offers the ‘POWER’ deal, which provides a ticket, a hot dog and a soda for 11 dollars. For the big spender (and eater), 20, dollars buy the Bud Light Lime Lounge ticket, giving patrons all-you-can-eat hot dogs and popcorn, and all-night twodollar beers. The Power has created a fun, family-friendly environment by offering different promotions throughout the season. On July 4 and 18, the Power will host a post-game firework show that will surely dazzle. Almost every game, the Power honors something, or someone special. Last Friday, the Power held Timothy Bradley Jr. Night, and last night was Palm Springs Rotary Night. Next Monday and Wednesday, the Power host Craft Beer Night and Teacher Appreciation Night, respectively. Log on to the Palm Springs Power website at www. palmspringspowerbaseball.com/ scheduleresults to see all the promotions. Since 2003, the top college players from across the country have been invited to stay in the desert and play with the Power
during the summer months of June and July. In addition to providing affordable entertainment for the Coachella Valley, the baseball players have an opportunity to stay in game shape and hone
their baseball skills while away from their respective colleges. In 10 seasons, the Power have claimed five Southern California Collegiate Baseball League (SCCBL) titles (’07, ’09, ’11, ’12, ’13).
On Friday and Sunday, the Power takes on the Lancaster Rounders. On Saturday, the East Los Angeles Dodgers visit Palm Springs Stadium. Games start at 7:05.

Julio Cesar in the Brazilian goal kept out several key chances from the Mexican side as well, but Ochoa’s saves were more numerous and spectacular - mainly because Brazil carved out the better chances. Neymar, seeking his third goal of the competition, was one of the players denied by Ochoa in the first half. Neymar rose like he had springs in his boots to reach a cross from Dani Alves on the right, and placed his header well - in the far corner of Ochoa’s goal. Somehow, the outgoing AJ Ajaccio player reached it with his fingertips. And another impossible leap from Ochoa - best save of the World Cup so far? The match had a little of everything, except for goals. Some fierce tackles, surprisingly few cards given the roughness, and a slightly decreased pace in the latter phases was all noteworthy. “That was a extremely intensive, truly difficult game. The Mexican side has a lot of quality; we fought hard, and I think won a fair result,” Wolfsburg and Brazil’s holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo said afterwards. “Both teams had chances. It was a good game, now we have to concentrate on the last group match.” Mexico and Brazil both take four points into their last Group A matches, remaining favorites to progress. Croatia and Cameroon both have the chance to play their way into contention with a win on Tuesday in the grueling heat of Manaus.

Then the celluloid images run across the screen and emerge back on stage, going from reel life back to real life. This opening is not only inventive it’s lots of visual fun. French Stewart, who stars as Keaton, has appeared in numerous Los Angeles theatre productions, movies and TV Shows and may be most recognizable for his role in the popular TV series “3rd Rock from the Sun.” In “Stoneface,” French not only makes us laugh; he also performs difficult physical stunts and pratfalls with ease. The plot is often moved forward with clever scenes reminiscent of a noiseless film as Keaton and the ensemble run in and out of doorways or in and out of screen projections giving his life experiences the feel of a silent
