PALM SPRINGS, CA – The Serenity Hospice of the Desert is opening a new branch to its facility called the Serenity Pantry offering patients food assistance on Friday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m.

“We hope that our patients are willing to come for food, if they need it,” said Jim McDonnell, a registered nurse

and liaison for the hospice.

“This has been an overlooked situation, . “After our aide, Janice, asked a patient, ‘Do you have food in the house?’ and received a no answer, we decided to open another sub-division to our facility,” McDonnell added.

discharged to their home, they often arrive at the household with no available food. We wish to reach out during this transition and provide a few days of nourishment.”

STAROpinion Anatomy of a Snowbird Winter Visitors are Truly “Golden”

T

he dictionary definition of a snowbird is: “A northerner who moves to a warmer southern state in the winter.” Snowbirds are returning to the Coachella Valley and we are approaching our “high season” with an influx of tens of thousands of snowbirds. We have all heard Valley residents say that snowbirds come completely self-sustained in their RVs and mobile homes, but I believe that is a misconception. Contrary to this popular belief

snowbirds are not 100 percent self-sustained. They buy gasoline, food and all the necessities of everyday life. They see our dentists and doctors; they get massages and beauty treatments; they go to our spas and theaters. They spend their money here, and a lot of it.

My husband Tom’s long time, childhood friend from Benton Harbor, Michigan, Tom Mashak visited us this past week with his wife, Sally, to check out the Coachella Valley. Tom worked for Whirlpool for 16 years, and Sally works for AUSCO, an off road brake manufacturing company. They both hope to retire soon. They own a home on 10 acres back in Benton Harbor and contemplate selling some of that property to relocate here for their “golden years.”

The Mashak’s spent their vacation rejuvenating in our natural hot mineral waters at the Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel and getting massages. They visited Joshua Tree National Park, Pioneertown and toured Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Whitewater, Andreas Canyon, the Marilyn Monroe statue and visited all the typical tourist attractions. They also checked into the price of homes and our state-of-the-art health care services.

Herb and Pat Krause, originally from Longville, Minnesota, started coming to the Valley 20 years ago and bought a home in Thousand Palms 10 years ago.

They are perfect examples of snowbirds who return to Minnesota in late spring and back to the Coachella Valley in early fall. The Krause’s both play golf almost daily and Pat attends the region’s many civic, charity and cultural events working as a photographer for our newspaper.

Many snowbirds are returning to the Coachella Valley over the next few months to enjoy the 137 golf courses our region offers and the ample tennis, hiking trails and spas with natural healing waters. Snowbirds enjoy seeing

the plethora of Hollywood celebrities and sports heroes that make this their playground. This Valley has a big city personality in a small compacted area. You wouldn’t be able to attend all the events, theater, films, restaurants or pubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas or San Diego like you can here because those cities are so spread out, congested with traffic (and the rudest drivers), and most with a typically poor metropolitan infrastructure. e have more film, theater and art museums per capita in this Valley than perhaps any where else in the world. Just to mention a few notables, we have the McCallum, the Palm Springs Follies, the Arthur Newman, the Annenberg and the Coachella Valley Repertory Theaters. In art, we have the Palm Springs and Palm Desert Art Museums, the El Paseo Galleries, the Back Street Alley galleries and the Annenberg Estate which recently opened to the public as the Sunnylands Center and Gardens. We also have the Palm Springs Air Museum, the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum and Cabot’s Pueblo Museum. And of course we have a variety of Indian casinos – Fantasy Springs, Spotlight 29, The Spa, Augustine, Morongo and Aqua Caliente Resort casinos.

What more could a snowbird ask for? There is a lot to do here in the Coachella Valley and not enough days in the year to experience everything.

Snowbirds are very important to our local economy.

Truth is, snowbirds are generally retired. They don’t have to be in a hurry to get to the bank or anywhere else for that matter. Maybe if all of us could adopt a more patient attitude and take a little more time to understand choices and differences we are faced with every day, then we could begin to see why and how senior citizens do what they do. They have lived a lot more life than the rest of us. Just maybe we could learn a little from them.

After all, we will all be in their shoes someday…or hope that we will be.

In recent months, Pérez has stepped in to bring state attention to the crisis at Duroville and the need to press forward on the construction of alternative housing for residents. The future of the Mountain View Estates complex has been uncertain, due to a determination by the California Department of Finance earlier this summer rejecting Riverside County’s request to use $12.1 million in redevelopment monies to fund the construction. In 2007, the Duroville park was declared uninhabitable due to extensive code violations and was placed under courtappointed receivership.

PALM SPRINGS, CA The Palm Springs Rotary Club (PSRC) visited the Cahuilla Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 24 to distribute 120 Webster’s Dictionaries to all third grade students, 120 World Atlases to all fourth grade students and 100 Thesauruses to all fifth grade students at the school.

“Members of our club volunteer at the school, but this event is special because we know that for some kids this may be the only book that belongs to them. Our club and Rotary International strongly believe that literacy is so very important in the development of children,” said Milt Levinson.

Dictionary Distribution Day is in its ninth year and is a partnership between Palm Springs Unified School District

Students at Cahuilla Elementary School (PSUSD) and the Palm Springs Rotary Club benefitting more than 2,300 students since its inception. The books cost $800 annually with total program costs at $7,100, all funded by the PSRC. The PSRC was founded in 1941. Rotary members have donated $1 million to more than 50 local charities and sponsored scholarships for

students via the club’s local Foundation. The club also raised more than $55,000 specifically to assist Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio worldwide.

Rotary International, the world’s first service club organization, is made up of over 32,000 clubs located in more than 200 countries and geographical

areas. Its members form a global network of business and professional leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities and the world.

Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” exemplifies the humanitarian spirit of the organization’s 1.2 million members.

Green light for the

2012 Holiday Parade

By Dave Christensen DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA - The city council voted 2 to 1 to proceed with the Dec. 15 Holiday Parade. The vote for the parade was cast by Councilman Adam Sanchez and Mayor Yvonne Parks to proceed with the parade. Mayor Pro Tem Jan Pye cast the solo nay vote.

Councilmembers Scott Matas and Russell Betts recused themselves.

The proposed route of the parade will start at Desert View and Pierson Blvd., and proceed southbound to Two Bunch Palm shopping center. The city

will provide police protection, barricades, liability insurance and wave the permit fee.

Contending against the parade, Police Commander Dan Bressler said “…the city did not have enough staff to have a parade go down Palm Drive,” but they would be able to staff an alternate parade route to go westbound on Pierson.

However, the Community and Cultural Affairs Committee member and parade subcommittee leader Joe McKee said the committee “would not even lightly consider” changing the parade route.

“For 20 years the parade went down Palm Drive, a significant number of buildings are abandoned, have been boarded up with foundations are just sitting there from buildings that have been torn

down. Access to the parade route would be more difficult for spectators and public parking would be further away with the proposed alternate route.

“Marching into the wind would present a significant issue,” as opposed to the Palm Drive route where business buildings block the wind. The end route at K-Mart rather than Desert Hot Springs High School would benefit the business community,” McKee added.

“We are ready to go, but we can’t convince bands to come if we don’t know if we are going to get your support.

Everything we have done is worthless if we don’t get your approval.”

“Either we start coming together as a community or we start falling apart,”

said Councilman Sanchez.

“We don’t have a 4th of July parade because fireworks cost a tremendous amount of money. When it comes to doing an event that embraces what is good and great about this community, that’s what a parade does.”

DHS Chamber of Commerce volunteer ambassador Jennifer Braun said “This community doesn’t have any events for the children of this community to look forward to. We need a parade for this city to heal; you can’t say bahhum-bug to that.”

The city council vote gave the green light to proceed with plans to have a Holiday Parade on Dec. 15. On Oct. 18 the CCAC met and shifted into overdrive to “bring back” the Holiday Parade.

Once the encyclopedia Britannica was our source for understanding the world, today the internet has become an astonishing and phenomenal tool that literally puts planet Earth at your fingertips. Type in any conceivable topic on your computer keyboard and up pops volumes of information on the subject.

Growing up in the 1950s and 1960s in Chandler, Indiana, a sleepy Midwest farm town of about 700 people was an experience I wish every young fella could enjoy. Me and my best friend, Dennis Lockhart, whom I met in kindergarten almost 55 years ago, could ride our bikes anywhere in the county without any worries.

We had cane poles stashed at every fishin’ hole in the area and we carried our slingshots and cap guns ready to take on any “stwaainjuh” that got in our way. And frequently, we would ride down to Ralph Bond’s Phillips 66 gas station and watch the old men play checkers and listen to them talk about growin’ crops or the current weather.

One thing the old timers at the station never did do though was gossip or speak ill of someone. That was just something gentlemen did not do in my era.

“The Andy Griffith Show” wasn’t fantasy about Midwest small town living.

It was a real life reflection of the Chandler’s dotted throughout middle and southern America. People were kind. Everybody knew everybody. Neighbors and the town’s people helped each other with whatever the need might be.

Today, in the infinite expanse of cyberspace, nobody knows anybody. Kindness seems to be in short supply and almost non-existent. Now, anyone can write the vilest things about someone they’ve never met, whether it’s true or not. An anonymous Internet post can destroy a person’s life simply by typing a malicious message or rumor. You don’t need a gun anymore to kill someone. Say enough cruel things about a fragile soul on the Internet and it can drive a person to commit suicide. Decency is a virtue that seems to be lost today in Internet conversation among web browsers.

It was 1986 when a friend of mine bought an Apple Macintosh Plus. He paid about $2,600 to get plugged into this developing new computer term called “online.” His family and I sat down one evening and pretty much went through

the entire Internet in just a few hours. The internet in those days was a small community of people.

What the Heck is a Fiscal Clif f

“I think the (presidential) candidates know how serious it is. I think they are trying to avoid it in part because it is so consequential and serious and the ideas that would be put forward are unattractive to some people.”

The Simpson-Bowles committee has outlined specific recommendations f o r Washington, DC to consider and implement to avoid the fiscal cliff yet nothing has been done with that work. This is a huge IF but IF the politicians actually do something and avert this fiasco (not just kick the can down the road again), the markets could rally strongly behind that news.

The International Monetary Fund, (IMF) is a global thinktank. Their opinions and forecasts are followed very closely by economic and political leaders from around the globe. The IMF describes themselves as, “An organization of 188 countries, working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world.”

Earlier this month the IMF issued a similar warning but went a little further than the Simpson-Bowles committee.

They forecast global growth would fall. They lowered US GDP estimates to 2 percent for 2012 and a little lower for 2013. They went on to say that the same problems we were facing in 2008 when markets collapsed around the world are still plaguing us today. That’s a very frightening comment when you consider all the money that central banks and governments have thrown at this problem. Things haven’t gotten a lot better.

Many of my clients have been asking about this “Fiscal Cliff” that you are hearing so much about in the news these days.

“Fiscal Cliff” is the term coined by the Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke who used it to describe the peril of what will happen should the automatic tax increases and massive spending cuts be allowed to take effect on Jan. 1, 2013.

Leaders from around the globe are concerned of the dire consequences if nothing is done to stop this looming disaster. Recently, Erskine Bowles, NC businessman and cochairman of President Obama’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform issued a stern warning: “We have $7.7 trillion worth of economic events that are going to hit America in the gut in December and in Washington, they’re (US politicians are) doing nothing about it.”

Bowles’ co-chair on the commission is former Republican Senator Alan Simpson. Simpson went on to say that the culture in Washington, DC is preventing any action to address what is known as the fiscal cliff.

“They are both in this,” Simpson said of the warring Democratic and Republican parties. They worship the god of re-election.”

Sadly many of the Bush era tax cuts that will go away at the end of the year are not just for wealthy Americans. Four tax breaks in particular will have a profound impact on middle and lower income families. They are the Child Tax Credit, the Earned Income Credit, Child & Dependent Care and the American Opportunity Credit or the Old Hope College tax credit.

There is no reason for our country to be put in this position.

This is not a Democratic or Republican issue. This is a pending crisis for every citizen. We should hold our elected officials to a much higher standard. Unfortunately, once the partying and celebrations from the elections are over, there will only be a few short weeks to address this problem and avoid the fiscal cliff. Well almost all of the animals are on her side, except for the cat, Lucifer. Even though the cat lives up to his name, his devilish antics are part of the humor that is sprinkled throughout.

Things look as if they are about to change for Cinderella when an invitation from the castle arrives asking all the eligible young ladies in the kingdom to attend a Royal Ball.

Unfortunately, before Cinderella can sew a dress for herself, her stepsisters constantly interrupt her preparations.

They keep her so busy helping them get ready that she has no time to create an outfit to wear that evening, but the busy little mice and the birds all pitch in to create a gown for their “Cinderellie” while she waits on her stepsisters, hand and foot. Their mother, Lady Tremaine, encourages their dreadful behavior and by the time Cinderella finishes helping them primp and preen she has no dress to wear. When she sadly goes to her humble room she discovers the gown her busy little friends have created. As she hurries to join her stepmother and stepsisters in their carriage they rip her dress to shreds. Now all hope is gone.

If you have read this fairytale you know the Prince falls in love with Cinderella.

When she runs away as the clock starts to chime the midnight hour he races after her, but all he finds is her tiny glass slipper. To say any more would spoil the surprise, but like all Disney fairy tales there is eventually a “happily ever after,” although not for the cat.

PALM SPRINGS, CA - The Palm Springs Women in Film and Television (PSWIFT) brought Margaret O’Brien to the Ironwood Country Club for a luncheon on Oct. 20. PSWIFT President Patti Gribow spoke about the upcoming Broken Glass awards scheduled for March Margaret O’Brien 1, 2013. Then Gribow introduced actor Randal Malone to the podium.

Malone told of the many accomplishments of the famous child actress, O’Brien. He spoke about their friendship over many years and introduced several women that had ties to O’Brien.

One woman was her Stand-in during many of her films and another was Joyce Bulifant, a dear friend and daughter-in-law of the famous Helen Hays. Malone mentioned O’Brien’s has four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Stars for Film, TV, Stage and Radio.

O’Brien spoke to the audience about her life in the movies,TV and on stage. She spoke about the lives of some of her co-stars and how they were to work with. She told of the competition between her and June Allyson as the best criers in the business. Many are still close friends after so many years. She said she started at age of one in commercials as a Gerber Baby and was discovered actually with her dog when they were the cover photo for the Saturday Evening Post. She loved her life in the movies and said she had the greatest childhood.

O’Brien gave out three awards to people in attendance. The Golden Halo Awards went to Mel Haber owner of the Ingleside Inn, President Patty Gribow and Sherri Davis, member of the board. If you had to guess where the most expensive hotel in the country is, what would you say?

New York City, Washington, D.C., Beverly Hills; good choices all, but they are all inexpensive when compared to The Ranch

that the Burj Al Arab is on nearly everyone’s short-list of moneyed hotels. You may not be familiar with the name but you have probably seen a photograph or two of the hotel -- a 1,000 feet tall structure designed to resemble a billowing sail sitting on its own island off the coast of Dubai in the UAE. It’s considered as one of the most photographed objects in the world.

Standing two stories tall and 100-feet long, the Queen Mary’s Ship and Slide lets guests can grab an oversized tube and race down a slide made completely of ice.

Ice Skating will also be available at the Queen Mary’s 6,500 square-foot ice rink.

While only be about 40% the size of the rink at Rockefeller Center, where else can you feel the Pacific Ocean air on your face as you take a yuletide glide with the majestic Queen Mary as a backdrop.

The Rink at Rockefeller Center, one of the most iconic sights in New York City, has just opened for the 20122013 season. The Museum has cleared the runway for the debut of “Banned Booty – Palm Springs Checkpoint.” The exhibition runs through May 17. The exhibit is included with regular museum admission, which ranges from $8 to $15.

The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Maloney’s show is set against the backdrop of vintage World War II combat aircraft. The exhibit is created from items confiscated from carry-on bags at airports by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) during the days following 9/11.

Maloney uses a shipping container doubles as an exterior canvas for a retro-style black and white illustration of air passengers standing on the tarmac ready to board.

Maloney’s Houdini Booty Lock-Up (2002) is located outside the container, composed of confiscated oddsand-ends such as a common blender blade, barbells, a butane torch, corn-on-the-cob skewers, deer antlers etc, boxed in bullet proof Plexiglas, roped with a 60-foot rusted chain with antique padlocks.

Evening Under the Stars

Chuna McIntyre and the Nunamta Yup’ik Eskimo performers spectacular palm-surrounded oasis located in Andreas Canyon just south of Palm Springs, one of the ancestral homes of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Each year, on the second Saturday in October, the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum holds its signature fundraising event – Dinner in the Canyons.

This event, which is also considered as heralding the start of the Desert’s fall-tospring social season, is unique in the Coachella Valley. While all fundraising galas feature varying degrees of elegant décor, delectable cuisine and show-stopping entertainment, there is something very different about experiencing those same elements outdoors under the stars in the natural beauty of Andreas Canyon.

Out of respect for this sacred ground, Dinner in the Canyons is the only such evening event the tribe allows to be held in the canyons. Décor for the event is provided by Mother Nature and showcases the natural beauty of the land, panoramic views, centuries-old boulder formations, running spring waters, indigenous plants, and towering palm trees that comprise the largest palm oasis this side of the Sahara.

Tie The Know will release a limited edition collection of neckwear each season, with all sale proceeds will go directly to various organizations across the country that are fighting for civil rights. PALM SPRINGS, CA Last spring, Vista del Monte Elementary Principal Joe Scudder promised his students that if they improved their API score on the California Standards Tests (CSTs), he would serve as the “ice cream” in their chocolate ice cream sundaes. The school’s API improved by 38 points, so Principal Scudder made good on his promise Wednesday, Oct. 17 when students turned him into an ice cream sundae.

Mental Health Summit PALM DESERT, CA – The Coachella Valley Health Collaborative will host a mental health summit at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus on Friday, Oct. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The free summit, which will take place in the campus’s Indian Wells Theater, is a “working-summit.” Local decision makers and community leaders in the fields of healthcare and mental health are encouraged to attend. The public is invited to attend the morning session on a spaceavailable basis. No walk-ins will be accepted.

“Our concern is that our comprehensive and actionable strategic plan, designed to reduce mental illness stigma and increase access to mental health services, will lie on a shelf only to be dusted off in a few years with nothing accomplished,” said Gary Jeandron, CVHC director. “The Mental Health Summit II will ensure this does not happen.”

The Coachella Valley Health Collaborative held its first mental health summit in March 2012 to discuss reducing mental health stigma.

This summit was primarily designed for individuals involved in the delivery or

receipt of services.

Attendees discussed how to implement a local campaign to reduce stigmas related to mental illness and develop ideas on how to increase services for those who need them.

Attendees participated in four breakout sessions in the categories of Latinos, LGBTQ, seniors, and youth. The sessions collected brain-storming information to be used in the development of a strategic plan to reduce mental health stigma and increase access to mental health services.

The mission of the Coachella Valley Health Collaborative is to provide a meaningful forum for individuals, agencies, and organizations to improve the health and well being of residents of eastern Riverside County.

By Art Kunkin - Mr Life Extension “Focusing” is a technique that was discovered in the 1970s by a group of researchers from the University of Chicago. They discovered that psychological therapy often doesn’t work, not because the psychologists involved are incompetent but because their patients were simply not hearing or accepting verbal advice, even good advice.

Therapy was successful only when the patients would feel and accept the advice given by their bodies. After observing that simple fact, the researchers learned how to increase the success rate of therapy by teaching people to “focus” on the felt-shift of the body rather than words.

Professor Eugene Gendlin, the organizer and leader of those Chicago researchers, then published in 1978 a small paperback titled “Focusing” summarizing his research. This book has sold over 500,000 copies and been translated into many foreign languages, proving valuable for people in many different fields.

I personally treasure two copies of early editions of “Focusing” that I purchased for pennies in thrift shops.

I have found that when people focus during the Tibetan meditations I teach, they can get important information about themselves directly from their bodies without relying on confusing words. In other words, people who “focus” heal quicker, experience less pain, learn new information more thoroughly, are better in business, in test-taking, become more confident in relationships, in creating inventions or in repairing automobiles. Focusing produces magical results!

Our sentences are often like algebraic equations with the individual words being the unknown x’s, thus hindering communication, understanding and action. The body is often more truthful, direct and applicable than our words.

The good news is that Professor Gendlin has made some new discoveries about teaching focusing that he and his associate, Ann Weiser Cornell, will be communicating personally to participants in a telephone seminar on “Going Forward With Focusing” taking place at 1 p.m. one and onehalf hours per week for five Thursdays, Nov. 8,to Dec. 13 (skipping Nov. 22).

The Girlfriend Factor Hosts Boutique Spa Tour

Desire Drug for Women?

HSDD aka Female Sexual Dysfunction: Alternatives to Age-Old Problem Part I

There are an approximately six million related articles on the Internet regarding “female sexual dysfunction” (FSD) and believe it or not, I perused an approximate one million in researching this article. Not one of these “related” articles gave a simple, healthy solution to the supposed problem. So I stopped the research and began on the journey, to share with you the proven, new, yet old alternative treatments.

The History: Throughout history, Western medicine has pathologized women’s sexuality in order to understand and control it.

During the Victorian era, many women with sexual problems were diagnosed as “hysterical.” In your grandmother’s time, women with low desire were said to suffer from frigidity (unable or unwilling to be sexually aroused and responsive).

During the feminist movement of the 1960’s and 70’s, things began to change.

The medicalizing of woman’s sexual experience was challenged and resisted. Terms such as “nymphomania,” “hysteria” and “frigidity” lost their punch. Presently, the condition of low desire is now called “hypoactive sexual desire disorder” (HSDD) and there are a large number of drug companies competing to find a spray, a pill, a cream or some attractive looking patch to cure it. And, they are also working on a “desire” – drug for women.

The risk is that many healthy women will falsely think that they are diseased when in fact they are perfectly healthy and normal. However, it is important to note that some women do suffer from real physiological and emotional problems when they experience a lowering

of their sex drive. There are a number of reasons why your libido can be affected. From early childhood trauamas to hysterectomies and some anti-depressants, and other drugging really do affect libido. However, the majority of women do not suffer from a disease. For many of women, their libidos are influenced by everyday life experiences, in the linear sense: aging, sense of body image, o u r

relationship(s), stress, and past sexual encounters including rape.

The History of the 43 Percent Statistic: This number was taken from a sociology survey that was conducted in the early ‘90s to find out what people’s sex lives were like. It was never meant to measure the number of women with a disease. Using exaggerated statistics like 43 percent manipulates women. It also says to large corporations and Wall Street that there is a large market for a drug to treat it.

The term, “female sexual dysfunciton” came about in

the late 1990s. When Viagra was released it was such a great success drug for men that companies like Pfizer began to think that there was also a large market for a Viagra for women. The problem was that in order to develop and test a pharmaceutical drug, the FDA required that there be a clearly defined disease.

Pfizer and a number of other drug companies sponsored the first meetings on FSD. In the end, 18 of the 19 authors of the definition of the disease had ties to 22 drug companies.

This definition was extremely broad: Almost any sexual complaint you may have, whatever causes it, will fall into this “disease category.”

In the documentary film, “Orgasm Inc.,” filmmaker Liz Canner followed the pharmaceutical industry over a period of nine years as it raced to develop a female Viagra. They kept claiming they were developing a magic cure, but most of the products did not work much better than a placebo. In fact, in the hearing for Procter and Gamble’s testosterone patch, Intrinsa, one of the doctors on the FDA panel suggested to P&G that they should consider developing a placebo instead because it worked almost as well and there were no side effects.

And why side effects? Still laughable, unimaginable to this writer are those drug commercials that we see today that offer the “possible side affects” that are almost as long as the commercial themselves.

One the most damaging socio-cultural beliefs popularized by psychoanalysis during the Sigmund Freud era was that women were supposed to have vaginal orgasms every time they had (heterosexual) intercourse.

From the groundbreaking work of Alfred Kinsey in 1938 and Shere Hite in the

1970s, we know that this is not true. The new fact is: 70 percent of women need direct clitoral stimulation in order to climax to an orgasm.

However, the thing about sexual experience today is having a sense of satisfaction that comes from expectations based on the linear- world media information. In other words, if the pharmaceutical industry, through their savvy marketing, can convince women that they should be having an orgasm every time they have intercourse, then a lot of women are going to believe they have female sexual dysfunction.

The Cause: Yes, there are some women who suffer from medical conditions that make having an orgasm (and even intercourse) difficult

or impossible. However, the majority of women are not experiencing sexual dysfunction. In this modern world, men and women have not been given great sex education – for decades.

PAGE 1 The COD Basic Firefighter Academy is designed for working students with evening classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and day time classes on Saturdays throughout the Spring and Fall Semesters. The program is constructed to provide students with a basic knowledge of fire service operations and to provide entry-level skills required by most fire departments. College units earned can be applied to an Associate’s degree. Upon successful completion of the academy, students will be eligible to receive their State of California Firefighter I Certificate.

Prerequisites to the academy include: Minimum age of 18 to apply; Possession of a current California EMT certification; possession of a transcript of FIT

1 (Fire Protection Organization) or college level equivalent.; current Physical Abilities Test Certificate (Biddle or CPAT completed within one year prior to the first day of the academy).

The Riverside County Department of Mental Health’s Homeless/Housing, Opportunities Partnership and Education Program will serve clients in 15 units of supportive

housing.

The project began construction in March 2011 and was completed and fully leased by May 31, 2012. The project’s environmental design incorporated energy and water saving systems and nontoxic building materials. Architectural features include stone veneers, tile roofs, varied stucco finishes, articulated entries and architectural projections.
