GALAXOGRAPHY PHOTOBOOK / 1
The assignment was to use a not-so-high-res camera such as a smartphone and begin a practice of abstract photography. I viewed this assignment as an exercise that would allow us develop an awareness to our surroundings. This exercise will train us to focus on color, structure, placement, hierarchy, and the interaction between objects. Ever since I recieved my first smartphone a year ago, I seldom carry around my DSLR anymore. Lugging around a heavy camera was beginning to become a huge burden. It was just much more convenient to carry around a smartphone. But wait... that is only but one reason why I transitioned from using a DSLR to a smartphone. A core reason why I began to use a smartphone to take photographs was because I realized that there were many things that a smartphone could capture that a DSLR couldn’t. This 7” x 7” photobook features various abstract photographs that I’ve taken with a Samsung Galaxy SIII over the course of the year.
