It was in Washington, DC that Kavitha and Biren met over dinner. Flash forward nine months, when Biren proposed amid candles, music, and a heartfelt video that included appearances from friends and family. The beautiful surprise was followed by a formal proposal in the presence of friends and family. Then, the countdown to the wedding began. The couple chose Nikun Events to plan all the

ouples who walk through each step of their relationship together are often very successful and meaningful. Considering just how
Rajesh and Nirmala managed to develop such a strong relationship is an indication of how wonderful their lives will be together. With Nirmala living in Washington, DC, and Rajesh in Miami, Florida, the couple spent six months dating and considerable time apart. The understanding shown while sharing a long distance relationship shows the maturity of their union. Rajesh was extremely attentive and carefully listened to what Nirmala wanted in her engagement ring before buying the ring of her dreams. He proposed at Nirmala’s home, and wedding preparations began almost immediately thereafter. The couple settled on bringing the wedding wvision to fruition after a long, continual scouring for vendors, venues and themes. The wedding took

place in Orlando, and the couple’s friends and family happily came together to celebrate this wondrous occasion. The Wyndham Orlando Hotel was the perfect venue to host the wedding and reception. The mehndi and haldi ceremonies were held at the bride and groom’s homes for the respective parties. Vibrant colors and linens, cheerful lighting, upbeat music and gorgeous Indian touches enhanced the outdoor splendor for the occasion. The groom and his entourage arrived at the wedding venue in a limousine flanked by several cars. Once at the hotel, Rajesh rode to the wedding ceremony site grandly on horseback. The bride’s party received the groom and his friends warmly, and everyone was ushered to the ballroom. Traditional mandir styles fashioned the venue, with bright reds and burnt oranges that were highlighted in the drapes and flowers. Matching lights added to the traditional feel. Programs were handed to

guests upon entry. All guests were treated to lavish sweets, while live Indian music kept them in a festive mood. At the reception, ivory, gold and lavender reflected off crystals, candles, and lights. Large centerpieces and flowers added to the regal ambiance. Among song and dance, and several timeless moments captured on a special video, the couple managed a wedding they will live many times over. Nirmala believes that compromise is the key given that there are two families with different thoughts involved. Smiles outweigh the trivialities that cease to exist in retrospect. Rajesh, on the other hand, enjoyed living every moment building up to the wedding, and during it as well. I Like most brides, Nirmala had her fair share of nightmares about failed moments. None of them, thankfully, happened. While the wedding cake did not appear on time, in the magic of the moment, no one really noticed.

here is no doubt that love will find a way to prevail if a couple is truly meant to be together. Whether it takes you by utter surprise or blossoms slowly, you will know when you experience true love. After being friends for a long time, Sanjay and Poonam finally reached a point when they knew that being together was the only thing that mattered most in their lives. After an elaborately planned proposal at Point Pleasant along the beach that was shrouded in secrecy, Sanjay and Poonam began preparations for the special day when their relationship would be formalized in wedded

A bamboo centerpiece with a waterfall, flower arrangements and lights were only some of the elements that created the mood. The wedding ceremony began with a mid-morning baraat. After some dancing, the ceremony was underway, with bridesmaids walking in two’s through to the Red Lotus mandap. The flower arrangements overhead spread a divine fragrance as the couple walked in together, and soft music played harmoniously in the background. The wedding reception took people back in time to “Old Hollywood.”

chandeliers were displayed in the Sun Ballroom, and an impressive dance floor encouraged all to celebrate. The bride and groom dressed their part too, in a flowing ball gown and tuxedo respectively. With a red carpet that allowed posing for pictures, and silhouettes in song and dance, the theme really did come to life. For most, it is difficult to articulate the magnificence of the wedding. It really needed to be experienced to be understood. With Remmal really rising to the ‘Occasion’ on several counts, they got much more than they truly wanted. 46

We are constantly reminded of this when we see the Bride and Groom’s face light up as they come out of the ceremony and see one of our luxury vehicles with the Red Carpet and “Just Married” signs waiting to whisk them away. The economic climate affected the U.S. wedding industry in a profound way over the past years, including the normally untouchable high-end segment of the market. To what extent did the economy impact your business? Apollo’s Chariots was started at the very beginning of this recession. We have grown substantially year after year. Growing a business in this economic climate is all we know. If we can grow this fast in this economic time, we will thrive even more when the economy turns around. What was the biggest lesson you learned in this past year of business? The biggest lesson we learned in our first year of business was that hard work pays off. We spent countless hours working for contracts and chasing leads. It was rewarding to see that work pay off. The biggest lesson we have learned this past year of business is the power of networking. We are constantly attending luncheons, chamber meetings, bridal shows and wedding expos to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and to network with other wedding professionals that have the same commitment to the industry as we do.
Our suggestion for couples planning their wedding is to do it together. It is definitely a bonding experience to work together deciding on the many aspects that go into planning a wedding. distinguishable items on a South Asian Bride, but it can also be the most annoying if not attached correctly to the hair. From slipping down on the forehead to being off-center, a properly placed and secured tikka will save you the embarrassment of appearing amiss in pictures. Two items will be your tikka’s life saver: a Wig Clip and Eyelash Glue. First tease the crown of the head. Then hook your tikka on one side of the wig clip while attaching the other side of the wig clip into the teased hair. After all of your makeup is applied, generously apply eyelash glue to the jewel of the tikka. (Make sure that you let the eyelash glue dry for a minute on a piece of paper to become tacky.) Next, find the center of your forehead and hold the tikka in place until the eyelash glue dries. From there, you are free to dance the night away! 2. Healthy Skin: Before applying any makeup, it is super important to have healthy skin! You have all heard the old saying you are what you eat and it is true! Make sure you drink water and avoid greasy foods.
If you have problematic skin, visit
a dermatologist at least six months before your wedding day. If you have great skin, continue your regime, and get a good facial about 10 days before the wedding. (Be careful not to get a facial too close to the wedding events, you might have some breakouts immediately after the facial.) Wash your

Married couples filing jointly are entitled to a variety of tax credits that singles aren’t, including the Hope and Lifetime Learning Credit for student loan interest, the child and dependent care credit, and the adoption expense credit. Filing jointly can also help alleviate taxes you accrue on taxable investments like stocks. For example, if you invested in stocks that profited, but your spouse’s stocks took a dive, you can use his losses to offset the amount you would be taxed for your stock’s profits. Couples who file jointly can also contribute more to tax-deductible individual retirement accounts. In addition, a spouse with no income can contribute to an individual retirement account (IRA) even if he or she doesn’t work, which was not possible if they were single. Filing just one tax return for both of you can also save time and money
that you would spend if you filed each return separately. There may be circumstances that may warrant filing separately tax returns. It is important to remember that when you file a joint return, you are responsible for your spouse’s tax decisions as well as your own. If your spouse owes a lot in taxes, the refund you would have received will be reduced. Likewise, if one spouse has many miscellaneous deductions like business expenses, union dues or uncovered medical expenses, it may be wise to consider filing separately. Be especially careful of filing jointly if your spouse has defaulted on student loans, has not paid child support or has committed tax fraud in the past. In any of these cases, you should consider filing married but separately so that you do not become liable for these debts.
Filing jointly can also help alleviate taxes you accrue on taxable investments like stocks. For example, if you invested in stocks that profited, but your spouse’s stocks took a dive, you can use his losses to offset the amount you would be taxed for your stock’s profits.
Other considerations: • If foreign bank accounts and assets are held, each spouse that has ownership or control over such foreign assets exceeding in total of $10,000 is required to report the foreign holdings. • Estate tax planning opportunities are available. A deceased spouse can leave any amount of money to a spouse without generating estate taxes. • If both spouses are working, often they have benefit packages from their jobs from which they can pick and choose the most valuable benefits from the two plans. • It is important to carefully consider how the two of you will handle your day-to-day
finances. New couples should be prepared to discuss financial goals, resolve differences (or at least agree to disagree) in spending habits, and establish a budget and/or saving and investment plan. • You will also need to think about whether you want a joint bank account, separate accounts, or both. How much do you want to spend on vacations? On monthly food bills? Entertainment? Gifts? Personal items? What are your long-term financial goals? • Do you have a financial plan? If you don’t, then now is the time to prepare one. Even if you do have a financial plan in place, since your marital status has changed it might be time to review and update it.
• If you intend to buy a home or other property or if you and your spouse already own property together, then you need to consider the best way for you to hold that property. Will the property be held solely by one spouse? By both spouses jointly? Because of the complex implications of the various forms of property ownership, you should seek professionaladvice. 2013 Orlando MyShadi Bridal Expo Social Media Raffle Winner
Congratulations to Krystal Jaikaran for winning the 2013 Orlando MyShadi Bridal Expo Facebook competition. Krystal’s live-blogging during the show was certainly a tremendous help for many other brides and visitors!
The couple has been together for four years. Tristan proposed to Krystal at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center inside of the holiday “ICE!” attraction on December 28, 2010. The couple was surrounded by two million pounds of handcarved ice sculptures when
Tristan took the traditional approach and got down on one knee. To commemorate their special engagement, the couple chose December 13, 2014 as their wedding date, which has historical significance. Their
wedding celebration will reflect an ice theme through a blue and white color scheme.

Q. My uncle would like to come to the U.S. and work here for a few years. How can he do it? What does he need to get a work visa, Like an H1-B? Or are ther other types of work visas? A. To get an H1-B visa, your uncle must have a job offer from a U.S. employer offering a salary at the prevailing or actual wage rate for persons in that occupation and geographic location (whichever is higher). He or she must also have the minimum of a bachelor’s degree (which should be evaluated as equivalent to a degree from an accredited college or university in the U.S.), or equivalent in the specialty occupation. The job offered must be a specialty occupation, requiring a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the field of specialty. The employer must file the necessary petition. Once the employer’s petition is approved, your uncle must go the US consulate in his home country and have the H1-B visa stamped into his passport. His wife and children under 21 years old will get the H4 visa. That will allow them to live and study in the U.S, but not work. The problem with this type of visa is that there is only a limited number of H1-Bs that can be issued each fiscal year (beginning October 1). The first application date is April 1. If more applications than available visas are sent in, there is a lottery. If your application does not make it, it’s sent back to you rejected, but with the filing fees. If the 94
application is accepted and then approved, the visa would be issued in three-year increments, with a maximum duration of six years. This period can be extended under certain circumstances. Some types of employers are not subject to the annual quota. Some examples of positions considered professional in this category are: accountants, computer programmers, market research analysts, elementary school teachers, journalists, researchers, and scientists. The are other work visas available, such as the L-1 visa to transfer to a US branch of a foreign company, or the O-1 visa for workers with extraordinary abilities in the arts, sciences, business or sports. An immigration attorney can try to fit your uncle with the best visa for him depending on your uncle’s education, work experience and other factors in his personal situation. Q. I came here with a tourist visa. What are the penalties for remaining in the U.S. past the expiration date on my passport stamp? A.Anyone who has overstayed the expiration date on his/her latest I-94 card, (or passport stamp) even by one day, is not eligible to apply for a nonimmigrant visa from a country other than his/her home country. This is because by law the visa in your passport is automatically invalidated the moment you or fall out of status. If you unlawfully remains in the U.S.
for 180 consecutive days or longer (up to one year) after your I-94 expires, and then leave voluntarily, there is a three-year bar to reentering the United States. If you stay unlawfully in the U.S. for an entire year or more, and then leave voluntarily, there is a ten-year bar to returning to the U.S. A person who is out of status and wishes to apply for permanent resident status cannot complete her/his case without leaving, unless a petition or labor certification was filed for him/her by April 30, 2001. (There are exceptions, such as applying for a green card based on marriage to a U.S. citizen, or by virtue of a US citizen child iver 21)Of course, there is also a chance you could be apprehended and placed in removal proceedings. Q. I arrived in the United States a few months ago with an immigrant visa, but have not yet received the permanent resident card. Now I have changed my address in the U.S. What should I do? A. You need to file Form AR-11 (Change of Address) with USCIS. It is important to keep a copy of the form and a receipt showing the date and address to which the form was mailed. You should also call the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) to update your address and inquire about the permanent resident card, as well. If the permanent resident card has not been issued, then Form I-90 should be filed in order to obtain a new card. You can file Form AR-11 electronically at www.uscis.gov and

be more educated about your case and will have more understanding when choosing the right lawyer for you. The advice in this column may not apply to your specific situation, even if it seems similar in nature. The only way to obtain legal advice is by speaking with a qualified attorney and review-
also update your address electronically with the Service Center by following the Change Your Address link. If you update your address online, it is important to keep the electronic confirmation that USCIS provides. Q. I received a letter to go to Immigration Court. I spoke to two different lawyers and they are telling me different information. Which one is right and how do I make a decision? I don’t understand how two lawyers can tell me different things. Isn’t there one set of rules? A. Immigration laws are really complicated. You were smart to talk to a lawyer in the first place. By the time you are in immigration court, it is definitely not something you can handle yourself. As you can see, even two lawyers familiar with the rules disagree on how to proceed. It is perfectly plausible that there are two possible approaches to your case. As to how to choose, think back to which lawyer asked you the most questions and which lawyer explained the situation to you in the most detail. The best assistance will be not from the person who tells you they can solve all your problems, but from the person who works together with you to solve your problems, and from the person that explains to you how the systems works. Don’t hesitate to talk to a third or fourth lawyer. You will see that their opinions may also differ, but you will

r. Perfectionist of Bollywood is keen on stepping into SachinTendulkar’s shoes if he gets a good script. Aamir Khan, who has already made a movie about cricket, Lagaan, has personally
expressed his desire for a film aboutTendulkar. Aamir is known to be an ardent admirer of Sachin and was also present at Wankhade Stadium to watch the master blaster play his last innings. Aamir Khan even dedicated the title
track of Dhoom 3 to Sachin. It is definitely going to be interesting to see the lengths to which Aamir goes to reprise Tendulkar’s larger than life persona.

areenaKapoor, one of today’s most stylish and glamorous heroines, could have a huge wardrobe at her disposal any time of the day. However, during the shooting of the Karan Johar production, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, she wore just six costumes in the entire movie. Kareena plays a poor village belle who fights for the causes of the villagers in the movie. Considering the simplicity of the role, it was im portant to restrict the variety and number of costumes to lend an air of authenticity to the role. Director PunitMalhotra says that they had to remove designer Manish Malhotra because the costumes needed to be so simple and minimal. Kareena, the professional that she is, is said to have accepted the costumes graciously without complaining
Javed Akhtar to pen movie script after nine years
J
aved Akhtar is known to be one of the most prolific scriptwriters in Bollywood. Along with Salim Khan, he has produced blockbuster scripts like Sholay. In the recent past, he has not written any scripts, his last being the script forLakshya. The author/ poet is now ready to write a new script and says it will be for a mainstream cinema. Akhtar says nobody has commissioned him to write this script. He simply had a brainwave and decided to pen it down. When asked about working with Salim Khan again, Akhtar says that he has nothing against working with his former partner. If they find something that interests them both, they may work together. He, however, says that if the duo does work together, it will be on an original script and not a remake of one of the previous hits.

B
igg Boss is in its tenth week, and the competition gets fiercer by the day. There is a mad rush for the number one position in every task. This season has by far been one of the most competitively intense. Recently, Kamya had a spat with the housemates because she felt that she deserved to be selected as the best performer. However, her teammates Andy and Gouhar felt that she should not be selected because her secret task cost the team points. Finally, Kamya, Gouhar, Sangram and Tanishaa received equal votes for the best performer’s position. The two people voted as worst performers wereAjaz and Pratyusha.
