Ed i to r ’s V i ew Dear Readers, For me, November is one of the best months. This is the month that Aruna and I are getting ready to go to India, and I look forward to visiting my Martubhumi once again. I am sure some of you are also getting ready to visit India and that is why we present this special issue on travel to India. In this issue, we cover the Best Palace Hotels in India. As you may know, some of India’s most opulent royal palaces have been converted into heritage hotels where you can stay and soak up history while being treated like a true Maharaja and Maharani. Talking about history, India is known for its rich culture, heritage, and religious diversity. People from across the world visit India specifically to admire its religious sites, Holy places, and unique architecture. Check out the article “Most Visited & Famous Religious Places Across India.” When we talk about being treated as Maharaja and Maharani and visiting religious sites, let us not forget our health. In this issue we also feature some popular Indian destinations that rank high on most wellness travel lists. It is also our pleasure to bring you a first hand experience of travel to India. Our own Chahna Tailor visited India just this past month. She advises us to “Don’t Just Travel - Submerge into the Culture” in this issue. And last but least, but as a matter of fact, the most important item for this issue is to think about the year end. This time of year, many of you are looking for a charity to donate your money and get a tax advantage. In the article, “The Future of India - Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation,” I have given full details about a charity organization that is very close to my heart. Over the past several years, we have been involved with and supported Ekal Vidyalaya. We are strong believers in supporting nonprofit organizations that help children’s education in India. We have been sponsoring Ekal Vidyalaya Schools every year now for over 15 years. Each Ekal Vidyalaya School in rural India serves 30-35 children and costs $365 a year. Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation is able to maintain this dollar-a-day cost because it works with a low overhead budget and is supported by the villagers with whom it works. We all have heard that “A child without education is like a bird without wings.” We do not want our kids in India to live in this world without wings. Our Hindu scripture Upanishad explains three cardinal virtues of life as follows,
¼Î<ݲ¡ çà¢ÿ¢ïÎì Î}¢æ ΢Ýæ β¢ç}¢ç¼,
Learn three cardinal virtues - self restraint, charity
and compassion for all life.
So open your hearts and your wallet and check out Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation at www.ekal.org. Happy journey! Raj Shah Managing Editor

Ayurveda is a science that I have formed a personal bond with, so much so that I decided to pursue a formal education in it. With the program came the opportunity for a clinical internship in Kannur, Kerala, and to learn from and work with Ayurvedic doctors.
L
ast month, I visited the state of Kerala in India for the first time. Many vacation here because of its natural beauty – the never-ending shoreline, miles and miles of serene backwaters, and rich wildlife. Kerala boasts everything from delectable food to the arts to stunning architecture. However, my reason for this visit is a little different. Kerala is also known for Ayurveda. As excited as I was about learning Ayurveda, I also took the time to interact with friendly locals and to explore the rich culture and heritage of Kerala.

An Ayurvedic proverb is, “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” This is something I have had the opportunity to experience firsthand here. At the Apthasree Ayurvedic hospital, seeing patients was one thing. Seeing the same patients come back with positive results was another.
with friendly locals and to explore the rich culture and heritage of Kerala that includes some of the most remarkable architecture of temples, mosques, and churches. Needless to say, I wasn’t coming back to Florida… Okay,
obviously I was. However, the next time you’re vacationing in Kerala, or anywhere in India for that matter, don’t forget to check out our country’s timetested science that is incredibly rich and becoming increasingly popular in the West. Happy Travels!
But, making our own medication and watching it work before our own eyes was a whole ‘nother ball game. Learning to make natural supplements from plants, minerals, and animal products such as milk, honey, and ghee was something I never expected. As excited as I was about learning Ayurveda, I also took the time to interact

Land Acquisition & Development L a n d d eve l o p m e nt p ro j ect s are very lucrative investments if structured correctly. There are several different issues that come into play with the acquisition of land development projects-Market Feasibility studies, Financial Analysis, Site Analysis and Legal Analysis are few of the major issues that must be addressed prior to initiating on a land development project. Market Feasibility studies are conducted not only to determine the highest and best use of the property but to substantiate the demand for the product being developed. Having a market feasibility study completed by a reputable company goes a long way in determining not only the right product to be developed on the land but also understanding the demand for the square footage required, the market rates for a product, potential income to be realized by developing a certain product and the potential return on the investment. Most financial institutions will require a feasibility study to be completed prior to approving the project for financing. Financing a development project is also an important issue that must be addressed prior to initiating the contract for land acquisition. Lending institutions consider several factors prior to approving a loan for a development project. Type of project, size of project, feasibility study, developer experience, operator experience, presales, pre-leasing, architect on the project, civil engineer on the project, general contractor on the project, attorney on the project,
investor equity, investor financial stability, investor ownership structure, site analysis and several other details.
Site analysis is one of the key components of the development project. There are several components to site analysis - Geo technical analysis, environmental analysis, ingress and egress, deed restrictions, survey, heig ht restrictions, parking restrictions, maximum density and much more. Several third-party companies are retained to assist with completing the site analysis. Having this information prior to acquisition of the property al-
lows the developer to project the property that can be developed on the parcel of land. Legal Analysis for a development project requires a very detailed study of all legal aspects of the project. From reviewing the contract to purchase the property, verifying zoning regulations, reviewing third party documents related to the project, reviewing loan documents, analyzing the warranty deed, title commitment and closing documents are all very important aspects of the project. Having the right attorney to provide the analysis is crucial to the success of any project. The four stages of developing a parcel of land are acquisition, planning, construction and occupancy. Planning phase requires working closely with the architect, engineer and other disciplines involved in planning a construction project. Upon receiving approval for the construction drawings, the general contractor moves forward to expedite the construction phase of the project. And upon completion of the construction phase, the building is ready for occupancy. Working with seasoned professionals is key to the success of yo u r d eve l o p m e nt p ro j ect . Whether you are building your dream home or a commercial facility it is important to work with professionals experienced in the type of property you are developing. Indian-Origin Economist Abhijit Banerjee Wins Nobel Prize

They are the first couple to win a Nobel Prize in Economics, and the sixth Nobelwinning couple so far. Abhijit Banerjee and his wife Duflo are both professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Michael Kremer is a professor at Harvard University. Talking about the trio’s contribution to the field of economics, the statement released by the Swedish academy read, “The research conducted by
this year’s Laureates has considerably improved our ability to fight global poverty. In just two decades, their new experimentbased approach has transformed development economics, which is now a flourishing field of research.” “This year’s Laureates have introduced a new approach to obtaining reliable answers about the best ways to fight global poverty. In brief, it involves dividing this issue into smaller, more manageable, questions. They have shown that these smaller, more precise, questions are often best answered via carefully designed experiments among the people who are most affected,” it added.

Indian-Origin Doctors Help Develop AI to Detect Brain Hemorrhage in Seconds Is AI better at finding brain hemorrhage than human experts? Well, meet the researchers who have trained AI to accurately detect even the most complex brain hemorrhage cases to save lives in seconds. When it comes to medical emergencies, we all know every second can make a significant difference, and this technology is that difference. Scientists at UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley have developed a fully convolutional neural network, called PatchFCN, that can identify abnormalities in head CT scans with comparable accuracy to highly trained radiologists. Indian-origin Jitendra Malik, PhD, with UC Berkeley, is one of the co-authors of the study. He is a professor of electrical engineering and
computer sciences at Berkeley and is known for his work in computer vision. According to Malik, “Given the large number of people who suffer from traumatic brain injury every day and are rushed to the emergency department, this has very big clinical importance. That convinced me to work on this problem.” The reason why this AI works with such amazing accuracy is the training data that has been fed into the algorithm. The data compromised of a convolutional neural network with over 4,396 CT scans. Another Indian American co-author of the study, Pratik Mukherjee, MD, Ph.D., said, “The hemorrhage can be tiny and still be significant. That’s what makes a radiologist’s job
so hard, and that’s why these things occasionally get missed. If a patient has an aneurysm, and it’s starting to bleed, and you send them home, they can die.” Mukherjee is a professor of radiology at UC San Francisco. The AI isn’t ready to replace a doctor yet, but it can be of considerable help to the doctors in determining the existence of hemorrhage and its various types instantaneously, which is time-sensitive and early Detection could help save the life of an individual with proper treatment.
Indian-American Rik Mehta to Run for NJ U.S. Senate Seat Indian American Dr. Rikin ‘Rik’ Mehta has announced plans to run for a United States Senate seat in New Jersey. A pharmacist and attorney, Dr. Mehta is running against US Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat. Cory Booker is also vying for his party’s nomination in the 2020 presidential race. In his YouTube announcement, Dr. Mehta said, “While Cory Booker campaigns around the country for his doomed presidential bid, the New Jersey economy continues to tank and our beautiful towns are becoming destitute.” “For too long our state has been failed by socialist politicos like Cory, who continue to build their careers off the backs of our proud immigrant communities 48
– while real New Jerseyans continue to struggle. No more. I spent my life fighting for communities and that’s what I’ll do in Washington,” he added. Talking about his strategy and motives, Dr. Mehta said, “All of us are very disappointed at what Cory Booker has done, but my focal point is not on what he hasn’t done, but it’s on what I am going to do. And, based on
my background and my relevant experience on policymaking as a pharmacist and an attorney for many years, holding pharmaceutical companies accountable, while still bringing life-saving drugs to the market and that’s what we are going to be focusing on and changing healthcare.” Rik Mehta’s parents came to the US before he was born. He is a self-described first generation American. He has vowed his support to other immigrants like his parents and himself. His campaign slogan is ‘Jersey Proud.’ While Mehta is “not a career politician,” he is well-known and respected in his respective field. He was vice president at Aquestive Therapeutics, and a co-founder and advisor of Licentiam, Inc. and Lactiga Therapeutics.
