Fair Process -The Central Idea

‘….individuals are most likely to trust and cooperate freely with systems - whether they themselves win or lose by those systems - when fair process is observed.’

Kim & Mauborgne, Harvard Business Review, July – August 1997

Fair Process is; • Engagement - involving all participants in the process. • Explanation – to gain shared understanding. • Clarity of expectation - a clear vision for the future.

Fair Process means; • Treating each person equally, justly and appropriately. • Giving others a firm belief that something will happen. • Building a state or quality of truth. • Consistently following the same pattern or style.

What does it do? • Fair process builds trust and commitment. • Trust and commitment produce voluntary co-operation. • Voluntary co-operation allows participants to go that extra distance. • Gives all the opportunity to reach a shared understanding and apply creativity in identifying solutions.
