Welcome to the Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering (CAPE) at the University of Bolton We have joined forces with RLR Msport to create a specialist, high performance automotive engineering centre. It is the first of its kind in the UK to have an in-house, fully-functioning racing team on a university campus.

‘This will be as close to the real thing as students will get. If they have the ability, they will have the chance to get hands-on, practical, trackside experience with a truly international racing team. ‘Students will be working within the company learning all aspects, from the high performance engineering, how we hire professional drivers, renewable energy, marketing and even the design of the racing clothing. ‘We will be able to both produce and operate motor racing vehicles from the University, and they will be available for sale. Our Centre for Advanced Performance Engineering (CAPE) students have a unique insight into motorsports – they are on a professional racing team and that team is based on campus.

The University of Bolton has joined forces with RLR Msport to create a specialist, high performance automotive engineering centre. Bolton is the only UK university to have an in-house, fully-functioning racing team on campus.

RLR Msport is an all-British squad; from Le Mans to Silverstone RLR Msport is making its mark and providing University of Bolton students with real-life race team experience and first-hand use of new and state-of-the-art racing technology. CAPE has launched with two honours degrees – a Bachelors of Science (BSc) in Motorsport Technology and Bachelors in Engineering (BEng) in Automotive Performance Engineering (Motorsport).

BSc (Hons) in Motorsport Technology Our BSc (Hons) in Motorsport Technology will equip you with the skills and knowledge for a career as an Incorporated Engineer. These engineering professionals are essential in many areas of the modern world, including automobile design, motorsport and automobile manufacture. Not only will you attend seminars delivered by these motorsport professionals and gain factual insights into motorsport operation, you will work alongside them on live projects. Examples of practical activities include using Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate the aerodynamics of RLR Msport sports cars, testing parts using our impact test or tensile strength equipment, working on actual motorsport projects and much more. Eng (Hons) in Automotive Performance Engineering (Motorsport) Our BEng (Hons) in Automotive Performance Engineering (Motorsport) will equip you with the skills and knowledge for a career as an engineering professional. This career is crucial in industries needing automobile design, automobile manufacture, energy conservation and motorsport. You will have the distinctive advantage of studying with on campus-based industry experts to analyse data (from pit stops, etc.), design new parts, make improvements to their racing cars, test their aerodynamics and much more. Throughout the course you will develop subject-specific knowledge and understanding with parallel business and management skills.You will study both the theory and practice of automobile engineering, exploring its organisation and management and, at each level.You will also develop the presentation and managerial skills you will use to manage engineering projects and support your future career development in the industry.
