Welcome to: 8393 Boardtown Road, Ellijay, Georgia 30540

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about and view our home! We bought this home over 10 years ago from the original owner, who lovingly repurposed 93% of the home from other buildings that were being torn down, such as a historic church and school. His original desire was to turn the shop into a small church, while his wife ran a beauty parlor out of what is now the mudroom, half bath, and laundry room. While we kept many of the unique features of the home, such as the poured concrete exterior walls, when remodeling the home we gave much attention to preserving the unique features of the home such as the wood burning Fischer stove which keeps the entire first floor warm and toasty all winter long. While the original windows were vintage crank windows from an old school, we kept the same size and updated them to something modern and thicker to keep heating and cooling costs down while still providing ample light. Since we’ve owned the home the land has been cleared into pasture that would be suitable for equestrian or any animals of your choice once fenced. The pole barn we added as our previous tenants kept horses in the back pasture. We fenced in the side and back yards with three board horse fence for our Italian greyhounds. We have greatly enjoyed watching them run to their top speed when we call them in every night. One of our greatest joys is being able to walk through the yard and enjoy the blueberries in early summer, apple trees in late summer, and the persimmons in late fall. We also have enjoyed our organic garden every summer, and out of the five gardens we have owned this is the only one that produced so much that every family we know had plenty of butternut squash, tomatoes, okra, and jalapenos. Our favorite feature of the home is cooking in the large open kitchen that I designed, and we just had updated. We wanted a place large enough for both of us to cook while guests sat at the island and tasted our work as it was being completed. If you have never had a pot filler before, please note this one is connected directly to the hot water heater for instant hot water. The walk-in pantry was a customization to utilize the existing pantry and bring it to modern efficiency and appeal while being a surprise with the design! We’ve really loved the open flow of the home. The dining room is open to the kitchen and living area so everyone can easily engage in conversation. We did add the half bath off the kitchen for guests to use. Turning the original master bedroom into a walk-in closet and sitting area gave us the space we desired in the addition we added on, which includes a handmade herringbone cedar wall and French doors opening to the stained concrete wrap around porch. We love enjoying our morning coffee on the porch overlooking the acreage and embracing the silence of nature. Now that the weather offers a little chill, we love spending our evenings around the fire pit off the back porch on the second floor.

My husband’s favorite feature of the home was the shop. He lovingly referred to it as his “bat cave” and he wanted to keep the original windows. The LED shop lights and industrial fans he added allowed him to keep cool during the summer and have plenty of light to work in the night. He added the French doors and concrete ramp so that he could pull his toys in and out as necessary, and made sure the fence gates had plenty of room to access all the land. He also loved how he was able to keep everything organized with plenty of room for storage, and take on any project with plenty of room to work. We love the location of this home! We found it amazing that we had more restaurant options with this home than we did with our home in Woodstock because we’re only 10 minutes from downtown Ellijay and 15 minutes from downtown Blue Ridge, finding a new spot for dinner was never difficult! I love wine and have really enjoyed touring the multiple wineries located all around us. And of course with is being apple season we have had the pleasure of visiting the apple houses and taking our nephews and niece to all the Pick-Your-Own farms. We really hope whoever becomes the new owners for our farmhouse love and enjoy it as much as we have over the past decade! Joseph and Rachel
